    The information is excellent. I enjoy watching Connors excitement with his work. My question is can you use some sort of forced ventilation to keep the bud from rotting. If you keep the moist air moving it won’t have time to start the rotting issues.

    • @DeBaccoUniversity
      @DeBaccoUniversity  2 года назад +4

      Ideally air circulation should reduce the odds of that happening. However, when there are many full sized plants in a large greenhouse there is only so much air circulation that can occur when it is a hot and humid day with a lot of transpiration from the plants themselves.

      @@DeBaccoUniversity without having a fan every 18inches at ground level (their ground level) I can't imagine for young veg it would even be feasible. Great point, thanks for giving us the "at scale" answer! To have that much airflow wouldn't even be possible at the required height is what I was figuring and def seemed you agreed!

    I'd assume this fasciation of the main stalk would be very beneficial/profitable for the hemp fiber industry. Can the mutation be isolated and reproduced? Million dollar question.

    • @DeBaccoUniversity
      @DeBaccoUniversity  2 года назад +4

      One downfall for fiber seems to be the lack of consistency in the vertical aspect of the plant. This trait tends to lead to more twisting which can create issues for fiber product that is looking for straight long fibers.

    It looks like the branches do not have the mutation, so does that mean the mutation is in the seed's development?
    It has the information to do it correctly, but cannot overcome the growth pattern on the stem?
    Have you cloned one of the branches to see if it begins to fasciate?

    • @DeBaccoUniversity
      @DeBaccoUniversity  2 года назад +2

      Freak Show is more a difference in leaf morphology (and the stem), however a similar concept can be applied to all mutations that if isolated and reproduced they could become a stabilized line.

    I have a fasciation mutant plant growing now. Also, a bud forming on a leaf, another plant that is vine like with alternating branches. Another plant that started off with a duck foot leaf. There's also a purple plant with a few spiral tipped leaves. I would like to send the remaining seeds and soil to the university for your enjoyment. Unfortunately, they are auto flowering. I guess you could study the DNA.

    That plant is awesome! Connor, congrats on your position as lead grower! I want to caution you about UV light. I am a fair skinned red head fella too. Last year I underwent surgery to remove Melanoma tumors from my body. Melanoma of the skin is caused by UV-A and UV-B light. I imagine you wear plenty of sunscreen but if are like me, you hate that stuff. Well, please consider using it or UPF 50 protective clothing. And for all of my growmies out there, please remember that the sun and some of our grow lights can damage your DNA and kill you. On a brighter note happy new year!
    P.s. I am having surgery again in two weeks to cut out some thyroid this time. Because I did not cover my skin and sun burned over and over. I also ignored my mole changing. Don't do that either.

    • @DeBaccoUniversity
      @DeBaccoUniversity  2 года назад +2

      Thanks for the tips and sorry to hear that you speak from experience. The UV light questions does come down to what covering the greenhouse structure actually is using. Some fill filter out the UV light, but it is better to be safe than sorry.
