@Scott Fisher I have suggested some videos on previous vids. I think doing Jett Duffey would be cool. He was a 3 ⭐️ recruit who had a bright future at Texas Tech but had some off the field issues and got denied at two schools his grad transfer year. Now it looks like he has one more chance at Hampton next season as a RS Senior.

If you haven’t done them already, by far the best G5 teams to ever play were 2010 Boise State and 2010 TCU
      - Both came in ranked in the Top 5 to start the season
      - Both went undefeated in the regular season the previous year
      - Both beat Power 5 conference champions
      - Both beat at least 3 Top 25 teams
      - Both ranked in the Top 5 for total offense
      - Both ranked in the Top 3 for total defense
      - Both had 30+ margins of victory on the season
      - Both finished in the Top 10
The most soul crushing loss of all time was 2010 Boise State at Nevada, and arguably the worst choke by a G5 team. 2010 Boise State was also the highest ranked G5 team in the history of the sport at #2 (which they got for going 30-0).

I was a student at UH during this time so I can answer most of these questions. 1. Houston was under immense pressure. Not only to make the playoffs but to also be accepted by the Big 12 who were discussing expansion at the same time. 2. The Navy game was played in a down pour and Houston had issues holding the ball in the storm. 3. About the time of the SMU game the Big 12 decided not to expand so the team was very deflated at this point. On top of that the rumors began to swirl about Herman being poached by LSU or UT. 4. The team likely sensing the end gave everything they had to stun Louisville. Right after that Texas lost to Kansas and that officially sealed the end of the Herman era. The team never emotionally recovered as EVERYONE felt betrayed by Herman leaving. It was just to much outside noise for the team to handle. A legitimate Top 5 team that just couldn't handle the spotlight and the excessive distractions

In 2016 a big part of why UH lost those games were the rumors surrounding coach Tom Herman leaving for UT or LSU. He was like a father to many of these players who had been looked over when recruiting came in high school. He showed them that pure talent was nothing compared to ruthless tenacity. That was this team. He started the HTownTakeover catchphrase and stood at the end of the historic Peach Bowl win yelling "Houston is Back" calling back to the old Bill Yeoman days and the Andre Ware era. The City of Houston, and more importantly this team finally felt like we were back from the collapse of the 90s. We finally had our guy, the coach that would one day have a statue right next to Bill Yeoman in front of the stadium. But as rumors amped up that he was being contacted by big name schools he kept reassuring his players that Houston was his home. There's even a video of him saying in an interview right before, I believe it was, the SMU game where he said all reports of him talking to other schools is false. But anytime the rumors ramped up the team's lack of faith in their father of a coach was evident. The nail in the coffin was against Memphis when in the middle of the game UT announced they hired him. Fans were screaming at our own players that he betrayed them. The team collapsed. Tom Herman told the team if anyone wanted to follow him to UT he would guarantee them a starting position. No one went with him. Everyone from that UH team to this day thinks Tom Herman is a scumbag and UH harbors bitter hatred for a long history of dirty politics UT has played against us with this only being the icing on the cake.

As a UH fan, this was painful to watch. The Coogs were set to turn the corrupt cartel 4-lettter network dominated college football world upside down in 2016, but they were screwed by yet another coach who was busy making deals with a Big 12 team when he should've been preparing for an upcoming game. This explains the losses to SMU, Navy and Memphis. The bowl game loss to San Diego State was because Turncoat Tom Herman and the entire offensive coaching staff left the school before the game, and the defensive coordinator announced that he was quitting the team to join Turncoat Tom at halftime while the Coogs were still leading SDSU. By then the Coogs were demoralized and sick of everything that happened that year.

Herman started negotiating his contract with U. Of Texas two weeks before the Navy game. His wife and agent were in Dallas talking with UT officials. My supervisor at work lived next door to the strength and conditioning coach for UH that followed Herman to U. Of Texas. Once he left that year all this came out. The navy game the coogs came out unfocused and you cannot do that against Navy. Herman one with Tony Levine recruits and CDH is now playing with Herman and Applewhite guys thus the record.

Wow. Thats really interesting. It makes sense how they played that season. After the OU win, im sure his agent was getting lots of calls from P5 schools. We played really well against Navy in 2015. And in 2016, we seemed unprepared for them. Towards the end of year, right before the Memphis, there were talks of Herman taking the LSU job. And then once Charlie Strong lost to Kansas, Texas had their reason to fire him. After the upsetting lost to Memphis, Herman accepts the Texas job.

I am a UH Cougar fan. I watched that entire season. Tyus Bowser and Matthew Adams, I believe were OUT for the Navy game. They got into a fight with each other the week before. Tyus got injured and Adams was suspended. Not lying. We couldn't stop Navy's triple option. The SMU game was just bad effort. Turnovers early and giving up big plays defensively. Memphis was a great game. But defensively we got burned by WR Anthony Miller, whos with the Chicago Bears. He went off. And lastly San Diego St, Herman had left for the Texas job. Major Applewhite took over as interim HC. And the play calling sucked. The team wasn't ready to play. It was a bowl game. After Herman left, I checked out on that season. Fans were upset he left.
Overall, yes very talented team. But, defensively our Cornerbacks sucked. Todd Orlando's defense gave up alot of big passing plays. And offensively, Demarcus Ayers, left 1 year early for the NFL draft. We had good receivers, but needed a speedy #1 receiver who can get open on 3rd down. Also, at running back Duke Catalon missed a few games due to injury. He was great against Oklahoma, but he missed the Navy game.

There’s more to what lead to this season before Herman was hired. The core of these teams players were brought in by Tony Levine. The team showed a flash of the future coming back on Pitt in the 4qtr of the bowl game before Herman was hired. There was a boatload of underrated talent that Herman motivated into the successful ‘15 season. The one loss at UConn also happened to coincide with the rumors that Herman had been talking to South Carolina that week. This is still the ‘15 season. Going into the ‘16 season, along with the hype of the team coming off the Peach Bowl win vs FSU, was the B12 expansion hype. UT and the other Texas schools had backed UH to join the B12, mainly for strategic purposes. UH beats OU in the opener which added to the hype. Then the B12 (and ESPN) shut down expansion and the next game, UH looses to Navy (I believe). At that point, I could tell the team was ‘off’ and rumors started flying that Herman was looking elsewhere. Then the SMU loss and I could further tell a change in Herman’s tone when he spoke to the media. The Louisville game was a magic night, but I was wondering what Matthew McConaughay and Vince Young were doing on the UH sidelines...hmm. Then the famous pre-Memphis game ‘eye twitch’ when Herman was asked about the UT rumors. In the end, the 2016 UH Cougar season was a wasted opportunity for a so-called G5 team to go to the playoffs. Herman’s heart and attention where elsewhere after the farce of the B12 expansion. In my opinion, had UH won out, they would have been in the playoff. The late season Louisville win would have catapulted them in. Also, I think Herman would have stayed at UH had they joined the B12. His salary would have been matched (Ferttita was ready to match it regardless) and UH would be in the P5 in a very fertile recruiting area and market. Herman would have had a statue built on the campus. We all know how this played out. The AAC is the best of the G5 conferences, no doubt, and the latest media deal bears that out. I think if the AAC could add BYU and Boise St, it would be even closer to a P5 level. UH will be back, Dana’s having to rebuild the program after it was left barren with no redshirt program or depth.

Tom Herman quit on the job & team collapsed. His energy & involvement at UH was beyond anything he's brought to UT. The feeling after Kevin Sumlin leaving a few years prior was too familiar. Emotional energy was drained. These coaches would later find out it's not them that makes the team, it's UH's atmosphere that allows a coach to succeed there. If any of these coaches would just stick around, they'd be in the record books like Bill Yeoman.

Yes Memphis gave up a 20 point second half lead the year before. Memphis had started 8- 0 with a win over a highly ranked Ole Miss team that beat Alabama. We were pretty bummed out we lost. I think that carried over to the Birmingham Bowl where Memphis lost to Auburn. they lost their coach in most of the players were just playing to get through the motions. It seems like every Houston versus Memphis game has literally come down to the last series. What's crazy is Memphis hasn't lost since that 2015 game, yet every game had been a nail biter. I guess we got our revenge but Memphis fan still feel the 2015 loss pretty hard

So glad someone finally made a video of this. I remember going into this season with really high hopes. Going to that OU game seeing UH beat OU had me so excited. There was rumors of UH moving to the big 12 and everything. I was thinking the same to my self that UH had a chance to hit the playoffs. Then the lose to SMU killed my soul. But going to the Louisville game it was so hyped to take down a number 3 team with ease. Idk herman got us ready for the big games but never had us ready for the cupcake ones. Honestly I hella disappointed that this team didn't really achieve dhit that yr. From there UH program has turned into shit

  • @lazyakers
    @lazyakers 3 года назад

I was a 2016 UH season ticket holder. I think the explanation of why this team was so weird is as follows. They could talk themselves into getting up for a big game and punch above their weight class (OU and Louisville). But then they turned on the autopilot against lesser opponents (Navy and SMU). Unless they were playing a ranked team, players and coaches checked out.

I’m from Houston, so naturally I’m a cougar fan, my dad also went to Houston so that helps to, I went to every home game in both 2015 and 2016 and went to Peach Bowl and saw the OU game as well and I still vividly remember the Louisville game and how loud it was there I watched every snap the cougars took and it sucks that they couldn’t have done more. It’s been a bumpy ride.

You have to realize even though the team was doing great at the time every week there were rumors that their headcoach (Tom Herman) was out interviewing for another job. There were rumors he was leaving for Texas, South Carolina, Texas A&M, LSU, Florida, USC, North Carolina, etc. Every single freaking day people were saying Herman was too good of a coach for the Coogs and that he was out looking for a better job with better pay.
People were also saying no way Herman would want to coach a non-power 5 school like UH when Power 5 schools were come calling for him. Reporters were constantly asking the coaches and players about Herman’s intention and whether or not they believe he was going to leave the team for greener pastures somewhere else at a Power 5 school.
The local newspaper (Houston Chronicle) as well as ESPN sports talking heads were constantly saying Herman was good as gone from UH once the regular season has ended. Those were the kinds of distractions and innuendos that the UH players, coaches, fans, and administrators had to put up with when you were a “G 5” school that Power 5 schools didn’t have to put up with!
It was always constant distractions that both the coaches and players had to deal with! We learned later Herman did meet with several “Power 5” school officials about leaving UH for their schools and he did discuss financial compensations with those schools. And this happened towards the end of Herman’s first year with the Coogs!
Herman was so distracted by offers he often missed practices and went interviewing for a new job instead of putting the time and effort to help his team win! I guess whenever he saw a UCONN or SMU on the schedule he took those teams likely and went out interviewing for a new job instead of spend the time to help his team win a game.
Seeing how disinterested their headcoach was in coaching them had to mess up the players emotionally and mentally, especially when rumors were swirling that Herman was out shopping for a new job instead of coaching the team, and the reporters were asking the players what they thought about that.
This scenario also happened when Kevin Sumlin was the head coach a few years earlier. UH did great and beat a lot of great teams under Sumlin in 2011, but lost to Southern Miss in the conference championship (Their only loss in the entire 2011 season) because Sumlin was away from the practice field and was busy interviewing at Texas A&M and other schools for a new job instead of coaching his players.
People were saying Sumlin hardly spent any time coaching his players the week or so before his team was about to play Southern Miss. Instead, he and his top assistant coach were at Texas A&M meeting the school’s top brass and negotiating a contract with the school, and when he wasn’t there at Texas A&M he was at the bars drinking with his assistant coaches and friends.
That had always been the problem for UH during those illustrious years - coaches stopped taking the UH football team seriously once they had made a name for themselves and once they knew they were about to leave their team for a new team in a few weeks!

As a UH freshman that year I can tell you why. First teams from the city of Houston are known for choking, we are choke city after all. Second injuries, ward played hurt all year and various nagging injuries kept them from their full potential. Also Herman has a reputation for losing to lesser teams both at Houston and Texas. Honestly if ward wasn’t hurt and we had a whisper of a running game UH could’ve gone undefeated, I honestly don’t think they would’ve made the playoff cause the committee sucks plus bama would’ve probably blown us out. As a student and fan it’s a love hate relationship with them. But hey at least UH basketball is elite. Great video tho man keep up the good work.

This was my senior year at Houston. It's because Tom Herman had one foot out the door already after the OU win. He was interviewing with other schools during our season and was no longer focused on winning us games. It's a shame because that will probably the only real chance a G5 school has at making the playoffs until the rigged playoff system is changed.

It was confirmed shortly after and that he was taking Orlando with him. The guys had no fight at all at the Vegas bowl and I can’t blame them, we had student athletes assistant coaching. Our interim head coach was coaching his first game. I think the 2015 is a better season to highlight.

Some weeks were worse than others, but I’m sure the team always felt like despite their dominance, their leader didn’t want to stick around. That’s a hard thing to live with over the course of the entire season. If Herman wasn’t a dogshit human being and would’ve been loyal to his team, they could’ve been unstoppable. Watching him get fired from Texas was the ending I dreamed of for him.

What's your ideal NCAA Football Championship Playoff look like?
Mine is: An 8 team playoff. Each power 5 conference champion gets an automatic bid. The 3 at large spots go to the top ranked group of 5 conference champs and/or independent teams. Seeding will be decided by national ranking. Host sites for the 1st/2nd round playoff games will rotate between the Rose, Sugar, Orange, Fiesta, Cotton & Peach Bowls(protecting the legacy of these traditional bowl games), with the championship site being bid to a different site each year(ie Jerry World, Levi's Stadium, etc). So if this 8 team playoff were being held this year it would look like this:
    Sugar: 1) Alabama (#1 SEC)
    8) Oregon (#25 Pac12)
    Cotton: 3) Ohio St. (#3 Big10)
    4) Oklahoma (#6 Big12)
    Peach: 2) Clemson (#2 ACC)
    7) Brigham Young (#16 Indy)
    Orange: 5) Cincinnati (#8 AAC)
    6) Coastal Carolina (#12 Sun Belt)
with the 2nd round games being played at the Rose & Fiesta Bowls. & the championship at someplace like the AstroDome.
To me, this is the most ideal playoff system. i believe that 8 teams is the right number of participants & this system puts emphasis on pitting conference champions against each other, while still making national ranking relevant(especially to group of 5/indy schools), & this finally gives mid-major programs a chance to get a seat at the table. Not only those reasons, but if you look at this tournament - it just seems so entertaining.
So who else has playoff concepts?
