- In todays episode we make custom hinges to mount our e30m3 trunk. It turned out amazing. Then Yuri built us a custom drip edge to attach to the fiberglass.

funny comment - and one i always think of - i watched a guy recently build a super wood working bench, very durable and best of all on large casters, so if you need to shift as you work its there (would need some soft bumpers, just in case of knocking prize motors)
@@patchmack4469 guys this talented shouldn't be doing their fab work on the floor. Lol although I must admit I've done it that way myself a lot too. I bought one of those portable metal working tables and it's so much better than working on the floor.
You guys can do anything you set your mind in to. That is why I love this channel !

Hey Mark. Enjoying the videos on the E30 finally you're knocking the vids on this out.
One thing I need to mention though. Some of the footage is repeated on either channel. When you get Yuri to sort out the hinges, I already watched all this including the drip trays on his channel, 23rd Garage.
Consider what is going to be shown on each channel. I suppose if Yuri works on your projects, maybe tell your viewers to head over there and vice versa.

I heard you say you would never be able to fabricate sheet metal that good. I couldn't disagree more, never sell yourself short. The impossible just takes a little more practice and time. For example look at the hinges you fabricated, simply brilliant.Can't wait to see this one finished and on the road. God bless brother

Yeah I want to see the I8 project. I thought about trying to buy one now that they are in the 60,000s , but after SamCracs video about the water pump and bleeding procedure , it made me think twice .
I wanna know what else is a pain in the butt. I guess the headlight system is another one .

I had one of these cars back in the late '80s. I love it and drove it until 500,000 miles on it.
This is such a cool build .the amount of work you guys have put into this thing is amazing.Lmao everytime the older brother corrects the little brother for speaking incorrectly about things.i never even thought about the hinge being different but that makes sence cuz the pillar angle changing

In your design when you go to mount the trunk rubber seal its going to push up on the rear trunk lid, lifting the back end up. So before you paint the car make sure to use the stock e30 trunk seal cut down and use it. What we ended up having to do, is shave down the lip of the rear window section and the channels lip we made.

Great job lads. Just fyi - You can actually buy all the M3 body panels from e30 garage Norway in steel, perfect replicas of the originals with the drip trays and all hinge mountings in the right place.

Hello! Trunk lifting force is provided on E30s by a stiff wire that acts kind of a torsion bar. It has two positions; for a "clean" normal trunk and the other when an M-technik wing is installed. I presume that yours is on the "low" position; maybe just adjusting the system to the second position would make enough force to lift your trunk not needing the strut system. M3 wing maybe is heavier than the Mtechnik one, but trunk lid is fiberglass. It could be enough.

BTW that is how E30 M3 truck lids sit. They are never perfect. This bugs me on my genuine car.

I would use LORD acrylic glue (2 part). It will save you time and effort (and money) Lotus use it to bond their chassis together. It won't come off

What about the original window tray? Are you going to mold it into the fiberglass?
some craaazy work boyz - da BMW is coming on nice - Yuri's efforts go a long way to making what seems to be the roughest kit i ever seen, it's so rough it would scare me off from attempting, it's like nothing fits the original car body with gaps in between big enough to drive a tank through - maybe Yuri you should look at making this kit right, but would you make much money on them, there can't be that many left on the road, and for those left, what owner would attempt this build, very challenging
The E30 M3 does not have any damper like you say in the video, but its oem shims/spacer between the hinges and trunklid so you can fix the gap.

You guys need that expensive laser that destroys rust. The last video showed all the surface rust on all your hard work.
I guess a word to the wise, always prep your metal on every surface and only grind the areas to be welded.
If you decide to stop the project it won’t rust as bad.
