  • More prep work on the Butcher's Block. What with the planing, the scraping, the sanding, the chain sawing...it's as epic as restoring a Butcher's Block gets. Enjoy.
    Mark.

    I was confused by how separated they look couldn’t he have just unbolted the threaded bars and planed and jointed them?

    • @RedPathRambler
      @RedPathRambler  3 года назад

      Yeah that separation was very evident at the surface, but deeper in it got very tight. The bolts are very old and rusted. I didn't want to dice with them in case broke.

    Why not use the more pristine bottom for the new cutting surface?

    • @RedPathRambler
      @RedPathRambler  3 года назад +1

      Good point Bob. I was torn between that more pristine bottom (kind of store bought look) and the rougher, worn out side grooves, dips and valleys of the original top. But it was the perfectly imperfect look that won out. 🙂

    I would consider taking 100% apart squaring it up and re assemble.

    • @RedPathRambler
      @RedPathRambler  4 года назад +1

      I have a feeling those long bolts holding it all together would have snapped off inside the blocks somewhere. But it worked out in the end.

      @@RedPathRambler it came out very well. I think if you would have done what I said it would have made it look newer. You kept the essence of age. Great job.

      Do you mean the one playing over the roof rack footage? Cool tune. That's Martin Klem, song is 'Nobody Has Many'. I got it from epidemic sound subscription library, but you may find him on Spotify or elsewhere.

      I've definitely known people who have used a sand blaster to clean up wood. Have never used one myself. Didn't even think of that option! 🙂
