    Hearing the stereo main mix for in ear monitoring from a separate stereo mix output. One of the Qu users on the Allen & Heath Qu forum asked how to accomplish this, while someone responded with accurate advice and help, the original poster was still confused about how to set it up. I made this quick tutorial for him and decided to share it here too.

      @@user-jx3jp3gb4x I have a question! Is there a way to make mix 1 master volume slave to the LR Main máster volume?
      In our current setup we would prefer if the volume of all our mixes turned down once we turn down the main mix volume... that way we wouldnt have to go into each mix and manually turn it down...
      Thanks for your help!

      @@alomeli080 yes, you need to use one of the VCA's and assign all the mixes that you want to that VCA. Name the VCA, and then when you raise and lower that VCA, all the mixes will be raised and lowered together in tandem. The mixes will still remain independent, but the masters will all be controlled by the VCA. Watch this part of this video I did on VCA's otherwise referred to as DCA. ruclips.net/video/_Wf02zpVb30/видео.html

    I have been looking for this solution for months. I was about to switch my main out to my external recoding device because I wasn’t sure that when I moved my faders on the main, that the changes would be reflected in Mix 5&6.
    I see and hear what you are saying that they will be reflected. Just not understanding how setting all faders to 0 allows that to happen.
    For now I am happy. Just looking to understand how. I was thinking that I would need to set the mix on 5&6 independently. That would have been a lot of extra work trying to make the main out and mix 5&6 the same. Thanks for breaking it down. Thumbs up.

      Hi Roderic, since we set this 5-6 mix to "post" fader, that means each channel will get it's audio from the main mix fader. So, when the sound guy moves the input faders for the audience, that will cause more (or less) signal to go to that channel in 5-6.....Post-fader = after main mix fader.... Pre-fader = before main mix fader. You need to experiment with this Pre or Post setting so you fully understand it.

      Looks like already had Mix5&6 set at 0, however all faders were set to pre-fade. Once I set the faders to post.... wallah - it worked. Now I can use Qu-Pad to adjust my faders and can hear the changes. Excellent info. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

    This is how we route for our live stream. We don’t have the manpower for another person to mix livestream.

      I do not understand your confusion. The video starts correctly. I am showing how to set up a separate stereo "AUX MIX" output that reflects the main stereo mix. I am happy to help you but what isn't clear?

      @marshy_moo Год назад

      Thanks. translate the statement: "I can't see how the faders in the LR mix affect (or get copied by) the 9/10 mix...", my question is, how does setting the 9/10 faders to unity magically mean their levels will mirror those of the LR mix? My assumption would be that without some other config/routing, setting the mix 9/10 faders to unity would pass through equal amounts from the preamp, not look at what levels are on the LR faders...

      @user-jx3jp3gb4x  Год назад +1

      @@marshy_moo Hi Marshall, so, typically a monitor or "aux" mix output for a musician would be set to "Pre-Fader" this allows the front of house engineer to have the freedom to move the FOH faders and not "mess with" the mix 9-10 levels, however, in this case, we want mix 9-10 to be a duplicate of the Main Stereo L/R mix. This would be ideal for a web stream audio mix that should be identical to the FOH mix but.... we still have the ability to control that mix (9-10) output independently of the FOH master faders, and... ultimately, we could adjust a few things differently. Man! That is one long run on sentence :)

      @@user-jx3jp3gb4x Ah, I get it now! The part I was missing (and hopefully someone else finds this comment useful!) is that for the purpose of all of the mixes other than the LR mix, the pre/post "fader" switching refers to taking the signal before or after the LR mix "fader". Thanks. :) I thought I was going to have to figure out how to use the matrix output routing to drive speakers for additional zones, but this works much more simply. Cheers

      @user-jx3jp3gb4x  Год назад

      @@marshy_moo I'm glad I could clear it up for you :) You are correct, Pre fader the channel gets it's audio before the main L/R mix faders and post gets the audio after... one of my favorite sayings for audio is ... "it's just plumbing". A Matirx output is really ideal if all you want to do is take the identical mix of the front of house and have separate master levels for other areas like you mentioned. Having a separate mix output like we discussed or a Matrix is that we can have additional processing like EQ and time delay. Don't hesitate to ask further. :) BTW, Happy New Year.

      Hi, it has been a long time since I have had an A&H console, but as far as I remember, you can not separate the stereo mixes and make mono outputs from them.

    Hi, thanks for the tutorial. I’m using exactly similar setup. Live House L/R, and that other mix goes to live stream. I am listening to this online simultaneously (once in a while to check how it sounds in RUclips) while doing the house mix. I noticed that in of the microphone channel, in the main house mix (auditorium), my mic fader is at -20b sweet spot, and it’s okay, loud enough and prone to feedback once I bump it more. But in streaming mix output, I have to raise the level up to be heard in youtube properly, fader reached the maximum already. That level gap of fader for stream mix as compared to live house L/R mix is about 15db. How is this channel or mic like this? My gain stage is proper, at zero in meter. Thanks!

    • @user-jx3jp3gb4x
      @user-jx3jp3gb4x  3 года назад

      Since you are lowering that input channel for the FOH mix, it is, of course, robbing level from the stream mix. You could set just that channel to "Pre Fader" in the stream mix...

    • @onzkicg
      @onzkicg 3 года назад

      @@user-jx3jp3gb4x Thank you fo your reply. Yes, I did changed the stream mix to Pre fader the moment I noticed how low the volume is in youtube stream. Have to push it all the way up to the max position just to get it audible in RUclips. I was wondering with that relationship of levels how to close the gap. In house mix fader I’m just near -20db mark (that 20 below unity). But in stream mix that fader it’s all the way up. Thanks 🙏

      You can, there are 3 stereo channels in, ST3 is by the headphone jacks and along the right by the screen, it is specifically designed for this. Just make sure to put the ST3 fader up in the layers bit.
