G'day! If you found this video about Soil Organic Carbon interesting then you might be interested in our FREE Soil organic carbon course, you can find the free course on our website at www.agresol.com.au/free-soil-organic-carbon-course (p.s there is no email opt-in, just free education).
I’m glad you got lots out of the video! Make sure to check out the newer SOC video because it mentions root exudates which are super important for building SOC.
Interesting thanks. The question for me is: after years of having mutual protection from the other trees, how will the roots of these remaining trees hold up in a storm?

Crop plants maintain a "rhizosphere", or a concentrated area of microbial activity close to the root. The rhizosphere is the most active part of the soil ecosystem because it is where the most readily available food is, and where peak nutrient and water cycling occurs. Microbial food is exuded by crop roots to attract and feed microbes that in turn provide nutrients (and other compounds) to the plant at the root-soil interface where the plants can take them up. Since living roots provide the easiest source of food for soil microbes, growing long lived roots that feed the foundation species of the soil food web as much as possible during the growing season should be a goal of farmers seeking a productive and profitable crop. Roots associated with SWRT membranes have been shown to last all season long, contributing greatly to the improvement of soil quality because they have the nutrients and moisture they need.
You are 100% correct. We will be making a video about the importance of root exudates for building SOC, by far the most effective and permanent way of making SOC.
Hi Mate, Yes Soil Organic Carbon is a natural part of the soil, its made from decomposed plant matter so it can all be produced organically. Increasing SOC is one of the best ways to naturally and organically improve soil health.
@@agriculture_explained thanks for feedback mate. Is this brand available in the uk and what is the npk ratio of it ? I grow medical cannabis and want to grow organically so looking at a good soil base and will add veg and flower dry amendments as required.
SOC is more of a feature of soil rather than a product applied to the soil. I don't have any experience with medical cannabis but it might be worthwhile looking into making compost which is high in SOC and nutrients, another great organic fertilizer is worm castings/tea, which uses the run off from a worm farm to supply nutrients and microbes to the soil. I hope that helps!
@@agriculture_explained Thank you very much for the feedback. I was thinking about using the SOC and adding my own amendments too. Like worm castings, dolomite lime, perlite, kelp meal, crustacean meal, bat guano, etc etc. Id just be concerned that it might overload this soil, depending how loaded the carbon gold is as standard. If the carbon gold is pretty low nutrient wise then it would be a great base to use and add too. If its loaded already then i wont need to add to it until a few weeks into the grow.
That would be a good idea. I would recommend getting regular Sap Tests done during the plant's growth to determine nutrient excesses and deficiencies, John Kempf from Advancing Eco Agriculture does a lot on the benefit of sap tests.

How can one not learn when you're the teacher😊
By the way I've learned more from your 27 minutes video than I have the entire semester 🤦🏽
I’m glad you got lots out of the video! Make sure to check out the newer SOC video because it mentions root exudates which are super important for building SOC.
@@agriculture_explained thank you, I'm on to it
Thank you for the great explanation. Keep up the great work
Cheers!
excellent video - especially showing how to take your own carbon testing.
Cheers! It’s still always more accurate to get the test done by an actual soil lab, but if you want a rough guide then that’s an option.
Wonderfull Presentation Young man!!! Please keep it up - the future is yours
Hi Mate, thanks for the support!

greetings from Brasil!
G'day!
Very well explained, thank you.🙂
Thanks Annie!
**Applause** Very great presentation
Thanks Janelle!
Never mentioned root exudates mate
Yeah I know, this was before I knew about Dr Christine Jones’ work. check out the newer video on SOC
interesting video, thank you
Cheers Endeshaw!

Always the same bibble babble without focusing on the exact species to apply.
