I usually just let them have their 1 to 2 dollar victories sit for a good hand n just milk them hard
You go for nit range n 14 or more outs on the cheap n just let them play their game and eventually they'll bite n swallow your hook thinking your free money
Maniacs n lags are my favorite to play against because they barrel n dig too much and I hand them the shovel
When you get ahead you go for tag ranges n good speculation with outs n throw the dirt in the hole they dug for themselves

Being the information age, the ability to improve GREATLY in poker is easier than ever. That being said, it STILL amazes me how many people play predictable, repetitive, and overall...bad poker.

Yep agreed. I’m only an above average player. I’d score myself a 6-7/10 on skill. I’m very TAG against anyone good, very LAG against drunk fish. I play $1/$3 live at the casino. Last 20 games I’ve won 16 of them for a total of $8,500. I regularly get drunk or bad fish to fold after they’ve bet several times or call me when I have the nuts. I’m not even a great player. They’re just so utterly awful I’m printing money off them!

Yo Nathan, I am new to Poker and I love your videos. I have one suggestion for your videos that has now bothered me a few times. As a super noob i'm trying to listen to your advice and take in the plays but by Point 3 or 4 i've genuinely forgotten what hand 'we' have. Could you maybe put the hand we're playing under your face as there seems to be a perfect space for it? Just an idea for complete clarity as like i say i have found myself having to skip back before to remember what 'we're' holding in a particular situation. Much Respect.

Best way to become a profitable player at cash games that are regular is to build a tight image over first few games. Once everyone thinks your tight you can play LAG and force people to pay up big for showdowns. Once you have a tight image it’s hard for people to let that go.

Sometimes you just have to call down in spots you’re not comfortable, where you feel like puking. Last night playing online I raise with AQ IP, get called by a maniac, flop top 2 on a monotone board, bet 1/3, then 1/2 on flop and turn to get value, river comes a 4th heart, then he leads with an overbet. It often means a rivered flush from most players, even maniacs, so I hated it. I thought about it more and just had to call him down cause I saw him do too many crazy things, like float with air, and raise on river when a scare card comes or draw misses (when he had one). He ends up showing Q2o no heart.

The donkey level LAG is nothing like the skilled LAG. Last week there was one of these min rebuy over and over guys that kept going All in pre and post flop with any two cards, about 30percent plus of the time. I called him with QQ and was ready to lose it all when the run out had me winning his stack. At one point he got up to $400 and at that point he could have tightened up and rode upwards but no, he donked it off. The way I generally play against LAG players is to use the old man method and keep folding until I've got a very strong hand and then crush them.

What Nathan is saying about this type of situation is mostly to almost all right.
    But there is a EXCEPTION.
If your in a deeper stack situation or if pot committed, then what Nathan said applies.
But if you are 16 to 26 bb stack size in a cash game or tournament, and especially in a tournament, and if your on the button, and if LAG is raising 4,5,6 x raise over 1,2,3,4 limp in callers, likely stealing limp ins, blinds, etc, and if you have QJ suited, KT suited, K9 suited, KJ, QT suited, A2, A3, A4, A5, A6, etc, 22,33,44,55, etc, as your range, and if you have good table image, THEN you need to FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE by 3,4 betting your LIGHT range about 5,6,7,8 x or all in depending on stack sizes, over Villains 4,5,6,7 x raise, as a RESTEAL that will likely either work, fold out villain, everyone else, or villain will call BEHIND, and will probably have good postflop equity, and depend on postflop board texture,. etc, can CBet, double barrel, either extract value, or fold out villain, take down a Big Pot.
Yes there is a little to some risk doing this. But most of time this works, exploits crazy LAGS, and does not play into what LAGS are trying to do.
So altho Nathan is right that almost all the time that do NOT want to play FIRE vs FIRE vs crazy LAGS and that doing so plays into crazy lag plans, etc, the EXCEPTION I pointed out is very profitable over the LONG TERM over crazy LAGS.
In my 17 years of play doing this, doing this exception works most of the time for me, others, and either folds the lag, etc, out, stealing big pot, or lag calls with a lesser hand and loses.
But even tho this exception works, it is a HIGHER VARIANCE, +EV, ADVANCED play, that you need to be right in your reading, assessment, situation, stack sizes, nuances, etc, or you can get into a lot of trouble and lose a lot.
So because of that, this exception to what Nathan said is NOT for everybody, and that what Nathan is saying applies, or should apply to most and be done by most, etc.
Just wanted to point out the exception.

I'm never short stacked in cash games, so what Nathan says about the flop does seem entirely correct.
But, I 100 percent agree with you that in an SNG or a tournament against this player, I am firing hard with that top pair and forcing him to commit or fold.

    • @mikehickmanvloggamessingin3604
      @mikehickmanvloggamessingin3604 Год назад

@@karlsumner6226 Firing hard with that top pair and forcing him to commit or fold, shouldn't only be done with a top pair.
      The CRAZY LAG is VERY LIKELY stealing the limp ins, blinds, antes, from the CO, cut off with 64, 65, 75, 76, 86, 87, 97, 98, T8, T9, J9, JT, Q8, Q9, QT, A2, A3, K2, K3, K4, K5, K5, K6,22, etc.
      That's LAG's range about 83% of time.
Can't afford to wait for a top pair, good hand, etc.
One's RESTEAL range vs that should be about QT, QJ, KT, KJ, A2,A3,A4,A5, A6, 22,33,44,55.
You don't have to have, and wait for 99 to AA, AJ, AQ, AK, KQ suited, and can RESTEAL with a far wider range then that.
Yeah, about 7% to 12% to 17% of time, you, one will RESTEAL with A2, etc, and end up behind the LAG, if called.
But most of time if you resteal with A2, your still ahead if called by a crazy LAG.
Can't or shouldn't wait for a good, top hand, pocket, etc, to reraise LAG.
If you resteal from crazy lag with A2, and it folds around, then there is a good chance that when do that with AK, KK, etc, crazy lag, will pay off your AK, KK.
Your, ones RESTEAL range from Crazy Lag, needs to, should be semi balanced.
I make a killing, living off of crazy LAGS, doing this in Sit N Go's, and in tournaments, etc.

What I don’t understand here is why allow them to continue betting? I’m a new player and I don’t see the point of calling if I hit on the flip. Why slow play it when the villains range is so wide? Why not just bet aggressively and take the initiative. Isn’t it better to pressure them instead by betting big or raising to invoke a fold?

    • @stravs8097
      @stravs8097 Год назад +1

A lot of lags (but not maniacs) are slowing down when you raise them. If they re-raise or shove, you could be up against all kinds of hands though, such as AK, sets, or better J's, not to mention over pairs. I'm not sure about Nathan's strategy either. Sometimes I'm up against players who barrel every street with K high no kicker, then make it on the river.

I have tried playing f2p to try to learn the game, but I have found that f2p sites are mostly crazy players who shove pre-flop with 84o and then suck out trips or full house against my AA. Constantly I see their crazy play rewarded by the algorithm paying off these pre-flop shoves. I either play extreme nit by folding everything to their all in pre-flop, and then hope to catch them when I flop nuts, or just leave the table. Problem is, I sit down at the new table and within 5 minutes another crazy shows up. Is there a f2p online game that even comes close to seeing real strategy?

I made a couple mistakes yesterday by not betting when someone checked it over to me and there was 4 spades on the board I had trip kings he had a straight I should of bet on turn and another hand I had KT off and I folded top pair after I folded a couple people out on a flop bet for 75 and then person first to act bet 175 on the turn and there was really no chance of 2 pair or straight and I folded top pair because I was kind of tilted from consecutive losses

The lag has 4,3 and sucked out like they do all the time. And because you just flat call on the flop…. You let the lag catch. Take the win when you got it against Donks. That’s my best advise. When you "got it" beat them with aggression. They will pump their brakes but as long as you keep giving them control over the pot they will abuse it…. most times they are just semi bluffing when they bet they have something.

I agree with this. I’m a new player and it’s so difficult to be profitable (winning poker) while playing online free money tournaments. All the fish just call and bet constantly. What worked for me is what you said. When the flop hits bet big and become aggressive. Don’t slow play the fish allowing them to catch something with their infinite range.

I don't get hung up on position. Got a big hand in early position? Either bet big and take it down or check and let the donkeys bet at it. Donkeys will call a pot bet I've found, so I tend to bet to kill the hand so I don't get outdrawn and to see where I'm at in the hand.

  • @stravs8097

What are you doing in the first hand when they shove? Obviously you're beaten by sets, better J's and over-pairs. I was in this situation today, except I raised, and he called. I have Q top pair, J kicker. The other cards are 4 and 5. No flush draws. Don't know this player, no hud stats. I bet 3/4 pot...he shoves, I call. Does he have a better Q, a set or an over-pair? No. He has 88, and he makes his 8 on the turn after shoving flop.
