  • This is the first dinner I slow cooked in my Instant Pot cooker. It is so easy, I can see this method of cooking becoming addictive. Set up the pot and walk away. Hours later dinner is ready.
    See the full recipe on my web site at:
    www.white-trash...
    And some people tell me my voice has a natural ASMR quality.

    Beef Stroganoff is near and dear to my heart, its the first "recipe" I cooked for my, at the time small family, and have over the years perfected it ! It's still one of my families favorites ! Thanks for the share, I'm now hungry for it myself !

    Whenever I get something new, I check the lids I already have to see if one fits. Most of the time, they do. Thanks for the recipe!

    Right on Dennis!
    Wonderful recipe!
    Those liners are the best thing to come along since the prenuptial agreement. As far as where you stick your thermal-pen (5:00), that’s none of my business. In my opinion, it’s a nice steam hole and I’m grateful they offer the glass lids for this reason. What a handy piece of gear.
    8 hours is the way to go.
    HAPPY NEW YEAR Mr.! :-)

      Thanks Benbretti. The liners were recommended by a friend's girlfriend and her suggestion was really helpful. As for the Thermapen trick, I only needed to check the temperature a couple times. Now that I know the pot maintains the optimum cooking temperature, looking through the glass lid is fun enough. I love that lid, and it fits perfectly on another pot too. -Dennis

    The oval slow cookers are really easy to clean. I haven't seen an old fashion round one in the stores in a long time.

    This looks really great Dennis. Have you ever tried to make this using several different types of mushrooms instead of the meat? It is a great variation to your meat dish for those looking for a meat free alternative. Just add a tablespoon of tomato paste to the onions and replace the broth with a vegetable based one. Yummy food and almost a health food. I use a blend of every type of mushroom that I can find and in the end, finish it off with coconut cream. Of course you can make it carb free by replacing the noodles with vegetable noodles. We aim for one meat free meal a week and this is a refrigerator clean out day with the leftover food making a stock or a risotto. I often approach the green grocer at the end of the day and buy whatever mushrooms he has left. Who knows what you will get. It makes for a great way to save a dollar or two.
    Cheers, Brad

      Hi Walter. I've only done two videos so far. Making yogurt in an Instant Pot will be public in a few weeks. If you want to watch it now, here is the link: ruclips.net/video/hefvFwms6M0/видео.html
      I have other videos planned. I'll try to add "Instant Pot" in the title so that they will be easy to find. -Dennis

    I watch a lot of Japanese cooking videos. They seem to prefer potato starch to corn starch, so I picked some up. I understand why they prefer it, now! It thickens better with less quantity, for one, and doesn't make quite so clear a gravy, which I like. Have you tried potato starch?

    • @MobileHomeGourmet
      @MobileHomeGourmet  6 лет назад

      I've never tried potato starch, but I do keep rice flour (AKA sweet rice flour) in the cupboard for the same reasons. It thickens well, is opaque rather than clear, and it won't separate later in the refrigerator. I don't use it often in a video because it might not be easy to find. I buy it at an Asian market up the street a few blocks. Thanks for the question. -Dennis

    First time I have ever seen a liner used in the IP. BUT since you are not using it as a pressure cooker, it should be fine.

    • @MobileHomeGourmet
      @MobileHomeGourmet  6 лет назад

      Ever one to experiment, I tried the liner, folding up the excess plastic and tucking it inside where it wouldn't interfere with the lid's gasket. It worked well. -Dennis

    Fairly certain it is illegal in all 50 states to serve Stroganov without egg noodles - same goes for 7-bone roast !
    Will have to try this method, normally make it casserole style. And I really should use the slow cooker more often....

    With probably electrical outages, use a pressure cooker and in 30-40 minutes you have everything done.

    Whenever I make this dish I always brown the onions, mushrooms and meat before slow cooking or pressure cooking. Wondering if the difference in flavor is worth it or not, because this dish looks super easy.

    • @MobileHomeGourmet
      @MobileHomeGourmet  6 лет назад

      Browning definitely improves the flavor. I sometimes brown ingredients in a skillet in advance. I aimed for simplicity here. Thanks for the comment. -Dennis

    I would love to see your review of the Instapot. Does it perform well as a pressure cooker and does it actually sear meat as advertised. Thanks.

    • @MobileHomeGourmet
      @MobileHomeGourmet  6 лет назад

      So far (I've only used it a few times) the Instant Pot does very well. As a pressure cooker, I don't need to watch it. It takes care of itself. In a future video you'll see me make yogurt in it. It has a sear function, but the pot is small. For searing, especially if I have a large quantity, I prefer to use a skillet.

    • @Warbler36
      @Warbler36 6 лет назад

      Palladio 1500 I have the Instant Pot ultra60, the one in which you can select your temperature to sear meat. I’ve had great success with it.

    Of all the slow cooker stroganoff recipes I like what you do best. But you don't have to call it beef and mushroom stroganoff. All beef stroganoff recipes call for mushrooms. It's just part of the deal for beef stroganoff. And thanks for not using canned soups.
    Carry on.
