Hello Strongdad ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me.
Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.
I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol "
For an extended set of suggestion (with links), I posted 2 huge comments in the community tab in my main YT channel (unfortunately the links are blocked in your comments - so you have to search it for yourself if you're interested..)

Floor starts of with her soothing voice, switches to her seductive voice, then switches again to her angelic voice, has a little break, returns with strong chest vocals, turns that into rock vocals, goes into chanting to whip up the crowd, then throws in her operatic vocals, only to end the song with strong vocals going into power vocals.
And that is literally the tip of the iceberg of her vocal ability, this woman is insanely talented, she earned her nickname "The Valkyrie" every step of the way.
So now.. your reaction, i loved it!! lol, you're a terrible poker player because it was so obviously clear that you fell in love with Floor, like so many have fallen for her before.
But.. in that respect, i think it is safe to say that all of us here, are terrible poker players when it comes to Nightwish and Floor, there simply is no hiding the joy and emotions that this band gives to us, and the energy that they bring to us.
So i guess it is safe to say that you'll be diving into that rabbit hole called Nightwish? if you loved this.. then there is a world to discover for you :)

Ghost Love Score was the 13th song of a 15 Song set in front of 82,000 Metal fans at Wacken 2013. Floor Jansen is the singer and not one of these incredible songs were written for her but she made them her own. She was not yet a full member of the band yet. She was just helping to fill in to finish the tour after the second singer Annette Olsen became sick with complications from her pregnancy during their North American leg of this tour. Their is a great documentary titled,” Please Learn The Setlist in 48 hours!” Floor had just got finish touring with her own metal band , Revamp which she formed because she wanted more stability because the first band she was in broke up after one album. She was 17 years old when she became the singer for that band. Floor is a metal goddess but can sing anything and make it her own and I thank my lucky stars that Floor chose Metal as her main genre. I’m a very very old Metal rock head been a fan of Nightwish for well over 20 plus years and in my humble opinion Nightwish has no bad songs their albums 95% created by Tuomas the Metal Mozart ( the keyboardist). My suggestion is to start with the opening song of this concert Wacken 2013, Dark Chest of Wonders and just go down the Setlist. As I’ve said Nightwish albums are masterpieces but they shine live. If you want to check out Floor and her own band Revamp and it was her band she wrote most of the songs check out Graspop 2010 and the songs, Distain, Trial of Monsters or Millions. It will give you a tip of her immense talent. Also you said you’ve had kids check out Floor singing, Disneys “Let It Go”. She did it during the lockdown for her daughter who was singing it over and over the house for months. Again in my very old Metal rock head she not only made a song her own Metal & better. Because I really hated Frozen because of the grandkids playing & singing it over & over endlessly. Hope you get to see this because the Nightwish army will be invading your channel let them guide you. God Bless Rock On Stay Safe !🙏🤘🤘🤘

Thomas, the keyboardist, writes the vast majority of the music and lyrics, and he often writes from a very personal, introspective place. As a result, the lyrics are sometimes a bit hard to grasp, as far as what his intention was. He has said he is happy for listeners to interpret his lyrics in whatever way they have meaning for them. The singer here is Floor Jansen…she has been with Nightwish since late 2012. The band itself has been around since the mid-1990s and is from Finland (though Floor is Dutch, and there is a sixth member of the band who is from the UK). This performance is from Wacken Open Air in Germany, in 2013, in front of an audience of 82,000. Anything from this particular concert is a winner…same goes for anything from these concerts: Wembley 2015, Tampere 2015, Buenos Aires 2018, Islander’s Arms 2021, Hellfest 2022, Deichbrand 2022. You’ll find that they are quite versatile, with no two songs sounding alike, and they incorporate a lot of diverse influences into their music, so not all of their songs sound like this one. You’re in for a lot of pleasant surprises!

A big welcome to the Nightwish Universe from Nightwish Army Denmark 🇩🇰 👍
Please read Gabriel Bardac's info and use his links while they have some of the best audio available 👍
This was from Wacken 2013, where Nightwish headlined and closed the festival - around 82.000 in the crowd.
You as a singer yourself - that was Floor Jansen doing old songs not written to her incredible voice and breath techniques!!! You ain't seen nothing yet 😉
She certainly made these old songs her own, and even changed them here and there - and the legendary Wacken 2013 concert is the perfect one to experience Nightwish with Floor in front.
From 2015, the new songs are written to her Stratospheric voice and stage charisma - she is phenomenal!! You have no idea of what musically universe you have just entered.
Buckle up and enjoy the ride. We from the Nightwish Army will be there to assist you the best we can, while the lyrics are deep, poetic, powerful and often with quotes from scientists and writers - not as easy as many other lyrics - but the stories are great!
And Floor is the greatest storyteller ever - just wait - there are more than 120 stories ahead of you 😂
    Greetings from Nightwish Army Denmark 🇩🇰 👍 💪 🤘 🤘 🤘

Dude, I feel you. I am 47 now, I first heard of Nightwish in late 2019. They are now my favourite band of all time, with many, many classic songs written since they formed in1996. (BTW Kull The Conqueror came out in 1997.) The singer here, Floor Jansen (pronounced Yahn-sen in English) is the third and current lead singer with the band. I could literally see the moment she claimed your soul. She is a veteran of After Forever and Revamp. She is affectionately called the Valkyrie Goddess by her fans and is one of the nicest people alive. She is one of a seemingly endless stream of Dutch vocal goddesses. Floor joined the band in 2012, as a temporary replacement for their previous lead singer, Anette Olzen who eventually had to retire with medical problems. Floor joined the band during the North American leg of a world tour. She (and multi instrumentalist Troy Donochley) were formally invited to join Nightwish full time just before this concert. This concert was the first time most of Nightwishes European fans had heard Floor, by the end of the concert they were chanting her name. Many people feel that Floor is the best lead singer that Nightwish has had.The first singer, Tarja Turunen, could also pull off operatic vocals, the second, Anette, had more of a pop music background and was not nearly as epic in live performances. As you inevitably fall further down the Nightwish rabbithole, you will find that there are many interlinked Euro metal rabbitholes, all worth exploring. For example, Floor's former roommate and bestie Simone Simons joined Floor's former bandmate Mark Jansen in founding Epica, both Floor and Simone are regular contributors to the projects of mad genius composer Arjen Anthony Lucassen, Floor is married to Swedish history nerd /metalhead Hannes Van Dahl (drummer in the band Sabaton) and currently expecting their second child. I am confident that you will learn all of this and much more very quickly! For your next step, I would honestly stick with the Nightwish set at Wacken 2013. It's now considered one of the classic live performances of any band ever. Plenty more to follow that!

woohoo! first comment... You will get all the info for sure. You have summoned an army to join you. Look for Gabriel to provide a playlist with links. It was a real orchestra, they keep the London Philharmonic on retainer to record backing tracks for the albums. And a whole choir too. So every live show has exactly the same click track timing. Her name is Floor Jansen (yahn-sen) our 6'1" Viking Warrior Goddess. She is the 3rd singer for this group that has been playing since about 1997. She was a replacement contract singer when she finished their 2012-2013 Tour shown here for the previous pregnant singer that dropped out. It was too long a tour and her health could not hold up. (story is in a video "48 hours to learn complete setlist") Enjoy the ride.
P.S. You could read the lyrics for this song and you still will not know what it's about.

Hello Strongdad and welcome to the phenomenal world of Nightwish! Their amazing rabbit hole is very deep so you'll have hours and hours of pure joy to discover! What I so much like in a lot of first reactions to this song is that at first everybody is moving their heads in rhythm with the music and when Floor starts to sing everybody stops and is watching in enchantment haha. Watch out in the comments for Gabriel Bardac. He has a lot of info for you about the band and the correct links to NW's songs.
This concert was held in Wacken in 2013. Wacken is a small village in the north of Germany and every first week in August is host to the largest Open Air Metal Festival is the world, with some 82K+ audience. Wacken is situated in a cattle county hence the bull sign. Floor Jansen (Yahn-sen...a as in car) was only 10 months with the band. She stepped in midway their World Tour and had to learn the setlist in 48 hrs...and nailed it!! My favorite songs of this concert are "Song of Myself" and "She's my sin" so if you have time.....haha. Enjoy everything this band has to offer! New sub here and greetings from The Netherlands!

10 times Ghost Love Score a day keeps the doctor away!!! My life expectation increased with 10 years since I discovered Nightwish and the amazing Floor Jansen two months ago. The band is more then awesome. They invented the word "epic". I need a teardrop drip everytime I hear that lady sing. She pumps emotions to you not via wifi but via a huge data cable. Whatever genre she does she does it better then all others. I can shave my goosebumps. They never leave anymore. Check out "the greatest show on earth" with Richard Dawson. Check the lyrics as well. Nightwish at its best. Highly highly recommended. Greatings from a 67 year old Dutch guy that feels 20 again !! In 200 years time people will say: fantastic music from the past? Hey Strongdad, very nice reaction,It always makes me a little bit sad when people say "where have i been"😞 ,it is a fact that lot's of people discovered Nightwish later in time ,maby because it's "metal"or the music industrie (radio) is ignoring bands like Nightwish,i don't know excactly.Luckily, they have a huge fan base all over the world. That said, I'm always happy when people do discover them and like the band. The thing with Nightwish is,they have such a huge history and to get the full scope of (really) their awesomeness ,you have to dive deep in their world of wonderfull music and besides Nightwish there are the solo projects Of Tarja Turunen (first singer) and Floor Jansen (3 and latest singer) and even Annette Olzon (2 singer) did some solo stuff.Tuomas Holopainen also has solo projects with his wife, well as far i know they all have some side projects.Welcome to the "rabbit hole".😉🤘

Welcome to the world of Nightwish and symphonic metal. They really are a unique band; each song is different and beautiful. Floor's beautiful voice reaches your heart and soul. Tuomas keys actually have an orchestra in them: the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
This song, in my opinion, is about unmatched love or about someone who lost a loved one. I'm not that great at interpreting lyrics, but that's the idea I kept.
I hope you continue to explore their music. Greetings from the NW Army Portugal. 🤘

Glad you decided to react to this band,This is with their 3rd singer Floor Jansen,a 6’1” Dutch vocal beast..They’re definitely a band that are better live, their studio stuff is good but it’s their live performances where they shine…they go from operatic though to rock, folk,Celtic and on to thrash and everything in between, hope you decide to dip your toe into some more..if you do then definitely use Gabriel’s list as it has the best quality videos performance and audio wise.👍

Always a pleasure to see a first reaction. I could tell you fell hard, from the expression on your face when Floor started to sing. As you may know from previous reactions, Floor is dutch. Her name means Flower. But to many fans she is merely the Valkyrie Queen. On stage she is fierce. In general she is down to earth and humble. I will be waiting for the next song.....Be warned, you will fall in love with each and every song. and have fun.

Great reaction. Nightwish is a very deep rabbit hole, where every song is different with unexpected twists and turns. Virtuoso musicians, a genius songwriter (Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player whom many call the "metal Mozart," is a master of emotion and melody), and the best lead singer alive today. Floor Jansen, the band's 3rd and current/permanent singer (since 2012) can sing anything - from operatic highs to full metal growls. And bassist Marco Hietala has one of the best metal voices of all time (when he sings harmony with Floor - it is pure gold). I don't think I can say this about any other band, but I've never heard a bad song from them (at least not live with Floor). For next songs to react to, I highly recommend that you follow Gabriel Bardac's list. Some of my personal favorites (which shows their diversity), are any of these live performances: (From Wacken 2013): Romanticide, Storytime, Ghost River, Amaranth, Song Of Myself, Last Ride Of The Day, Ever Dream; (From Wembley 2015): 7 Days To The Wolves, Yours Is An Empty Hope, Nemo, Elan, My Walden, While Your Lips Are Still Red, Shudder Before The Beautiful, The Poet And The Pendulum; (From Tampere 2015): Sleeping Sun, The Islander; (From Buenos Aires 2018): I Want My Tears Back, Dead Boys Poem, Devil And The Deep Dark Ocean; (From Tampa): Sahara; (From Hellfest 2022): Tribal, How's The Heart.

Greetings from Utah!🤘Great reaction! Your face and rubbing of your arms said it all. I suspect you got goose bumps and/or a tingling sensation. That is a very common reaction when listening to Nightwish with Floor. So much so that there is a term for it: Floorgasm. Ghost Love Score, and in particular this performance at Wacken 2013, has been the main entrance to the Nightwish rabbit hole for many NW Army recruits, myself included. This performance is THE most reacted-to video on RUclips, and Nightwish is the most reacted-to band on RUclips. As others have said, NW is best experienced LIVE. Also, should you want to put a song on your audio playlist from a source other than the YT video you watch, be advised that the original studio recordings may have been with different band members. To get the live audio performances, use the live albums recorded during a tour: "From Wishes to Eternity (2000)", "End of an Era (2005)", "Showtime, Storytime (Wacken 2013)", "Vehicle of Spirit (Wembley Arena 2015)", "Decades (Buenos Aires 2018)".

The concert was in Wacken (probably biggest metal festival around) and this song was the 13th they performed.
So, after 2 hrs singing, Floor brought us this masterpiece.
The final vocals is what we fan call "floorgasm" and i think you understand why!
You can check more of Floor with her earlier bands like After Forever and ReVamp to see how talented she already was at 22!

Discovering Nightwish was like my first time hearing Pink Floyd or Heart or Led Zeppelin or Iron Maiden, those bands make up the core of who I am and I didn't realize I was missing Nightwish until I stumbled on someone's reaction video. Nightwish Shadow Unit from Estonia reporting in ! 6'1'' Dutch Valkyrie Goddess spotted ! Gabriel Bardac entered !
Floor her name is derived from the Roman Goddess of Spring, Flora.
Floor Jansen is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy.
Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6).
She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. And she's also a voice coach and teacher to boot. Plus, huge vocal nerd 😉.
Floor Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg, where she graduated in 2003. She studied musical theatre and a year of opera. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016.
From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon (Second singer of Nightwish after Tarja) as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour (And she had to learn the setlist in 48h). On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020.
And the master of this magic is:
Our Metal Mozart Tuomas Holopainen (founder, leader, keyboardist, songwriter and the main composer for Nightwish)
Tuomas the keyboardist writes about 95% of Nightwish songs, music and lyrics. He also composes the music for the backing track they use. It is recorded in London with musicians from The London Philharmonics. Pip Williams helps with the orchestration. There are two London based choirs too on the backing track, the other one is a children's choir. And of course with a synth you can do a lot.
This was recorded at the 2013 Wacken (pronounced Vahken) Open Air festival in Germany in front of an audience of 82,000 people (one of the largest heavy metal festivals in the world and one of the largest open-air festivals in Germany). The fiery bull head is the symbol of the festival.
At this point Floor had been with Nightwish for 10 months. Most fans had not seen her yet with Nihgtwish. And Wacken 2013 was the biggest concert for Nightwish, they were the headliner, the last performer right after Alice Cooper. Nightwish ended the concert around midnight.
We hope, that there is more coming.
    NWSU/FloorFan 🤘😎🤘.

welcome to the fantastic symphonic metal universe of Nightwish Band, their live performances are some of the things that come so close to epic that they get to be mythical and of course Floor Jansen, queen of the stage and goddess of music, she can sing anything in any musical style she wants (WARNING! her voice, her stage presence, her charisma, in one word: her "spell" is highly addictive).
this concert (wacken 2013) is incredibly epic and deserves to be watched and reacted entirely, song by song, in particular I suggest these three songs: "song of myself", "storytime" and "ever dream"
this performance of "ghost love score" is one of the three best performances of the nightwish band, together with "the poet and the pendulum" from 2015 concert at the london wembley arena and "the greatest show on earth" from 2015 concert in tampere - finland (actually there is a fourth best performance: "dead boy's poem" from the 2018 concert in buenos aires).

I still listen almost everyday. Their discography is so versatile, you will be amazed with every new song you discover. I can honestly say, which ever you pics, it really doesn't matter. But to help you on your way, I suggest, in no particular order:

    - The Poet And The Pendulum, live at Wembley Arena
    - Yours is an Empty Hope, live at Wembley Arena

Today is my 67th birthday, I seen Nightwish last December in Dusseldorf, I had twisted my wife's arm to go with me, but she hummed and hawed so much there was only a few days left when she finally relented and said yes to go. Then I could not book tickets outside if Germany, so we drove to Aachen and got the tickets in a travel agents. Then came the night, and what a night Turmion Katalot opened, not my cup of tea, a bit too heavy, then it was Beast in Black, WOW! 80's power metal and Yannis Papadopoulos, the singer, he was fantastic, then came Nightwish and what an experience, fantastic show. Leaving, sitting in the queue to get out of the car park my wife turned to me as said I want to do this again, it was a fantastic evening, I said that they were playing again in Gelsenkirchen on June 12th but she said nothing, and kept putting it off and off. Two weeks ago she said "I have two tickets to Gelsenkirchen for your birthday..." Again what an evening a very heavily pregnant Floor (over 6months) windmilling and headbanging and giving it her all, it was a very beautiful setting of an amphitheatre against a canal and 7000 of a sold out crowd, it was again a magical day and evening and we met a few people that lived close to us who were also Nightwish fans.
It was the song The Islander that first got me to notice Nightwish, I had heard of them but never listened to them until then, but Annette's voice really did not do it for me, though I did buy the Dark Passion Play album on the merit of The Islander, Marko's singing is great and him and Floor are a beautiful match and contrast, Romanticide is a good place to go next where you will hear bot floor and Marko singing, it is a good bit heavier than GLS but still excellent, to hear Marko you could try High Hopes from The End of an Era concert or While Your Lips Are Still Red from the Wembley concert. or even The Islander from the Tampere concert, but anything from the 2013 Wacken Open Air concert is great, there are no bad tracks from that.

The concert was Wacken Open Air in Germany back in 2013 (I think). Fun fact, Floor Jansen is their third lead singer. The first was Tarja Turunen which was the one who recorded this song. I think Floor owns this song now. The singer between Tarja and Floor was Anette Olzon, who has a more Pop voice. Having said that. A couple of Nightwish's most popular albums were released when Anette was the lead singer. It's just that she doesn't belt like Floor can and doesn't have the operatic style of Tarja. Floor took over from Anette in the middle of a US tour when Anette was pregnant and took ill. Floor flew to the US and had to learn the songs in the set in about 48 hours, which is remarkable. I believe Wacken was toward the end of that tour and by this time Floor had melded well with the rest of the band, even if technically she was still a temporary member of the band) and even the most adrent fans had accepted her.

New subscriber here. Loved your enthusiasm! "Ghost Love Score" --- "Score" because it is written in the style of a movie score... different movements each telling a different chapter of the story... roller coaster of different emotions... epic orchestrations (real orchestra by the way, the London Philharmonic). A good rule of thumb in interpreting Nightwish's lyrics is to realize that they are world-class poetry that tell a story in deep metaphor. They seldom, if ever, are intended to be taken literally. This one tells a story of a young man whose heart is torn out and broken when he finally comes to the realization that he has wasted a huge portion of his life being obsessively infatuated with a figment of his own imagination, in effect, he was in love with a ghost and not the real woman who was not interested in reciprocating the romance and married another man. This watershed event in his life, when he realizes his "ghost love," is poignantly clear by examining the background choir voices (provided by Metro Voices of London) behind the first verse versus the reprise of that verse at the end. At the beginning, the choir lyrics are, "My fall will be for you. My love will be in you. If you be the one to cut me, I will bleed forever." In the reprise they change to, "My fall will be for you. My love will be with you. You were the one to cut me, so I will bleed forever." Very sad story. An epic tear-jerker. But I think nearly all men can remember back to their own youth and identify with this feeling to some extent. ........ Enjoy your Nightwish deep dive, and I will enjoy tagging along with you! 😊

The song is about having a love that will never be. A Ghost love.
The singer is Floor Jansen (Floor Yahnsen) and she is the third lead singer nightwish has had. The original was Tarja Turunen and the second was Anette Olzon.
This song was written originally for Tarja's vocal style, but Floor's is very different.
Floor is the Valkyrie Queen of live performance. Her versatility makes her a force to be reckoned with on stage performances.
The commenter Gabriel Bardac will not lead you wrong when it comes to information and suggestions. He's kind of like our chosen representative.
(P.S. that incredible chill down your spine you get when she sings is called a Floorgasm)

"Bless the Child" live is just one of many amazing Nightwish songs you should checkout. Floor kicks some serious ass, no knock to the other Nightwish vocalists.
