What a genius, its great to know that blokes like him keep the best bikes in the world on the road.. British engineering is still the best in the world..Ian.👍
Typical of brilliant engineers, Phil is a man of immense skill, and few words . What a great video. I loved the shadow board with his tools , that’s how a workshop should be.👍
Phil first helped me get a BB32 engine sorted in the 90's, then built me a complete DBD34 engine with one of his GP carbs in 2000. This bike has never missed a beat since he helped me set it up, riding from Slough to Norfolk each time. I've been to the Island with the Goldstar Club and done quite a few fast laps, also ridden with Phil, when he first built the 600. Being of a certain age, I got young Phil junior to fit an electric starter to keep me riding. I have never touched the engine, which is still oil tight. As an engineer myself, I was always amazed at the quality of his work from the original shed at the bottom of the garden. Many thanks for the video.
Brings back some memories! When we visited Phil approx 5 years ago, we have got the same “tour” from him.. incl the room with the shelf with goodies and his own GS in the garage, haha… He doesn’t do standard crankshafts anymore, since he “ retired”, but am happy to see hem in his super shed, still helping out some selected bunch of customers.. ❤
Super spectacular video. I felt like entering a portal with direct access to Paradise. Angels with swords, fearsome and resolute spears, plus lots of lathes, milling machines, measuring devices, presses, various equipment, in a deep wisdom acquired after years of immense and precise work on a daily basis. Immensely grateful. It's not every day that we see a video like this.
As a retired turner, I am bloody jealous of the amount of tooling and machines Phil has. I used to make lots of parts for my bikes and cars during lunch breaks. Even as an apprentice, thanks to an instructor who was into rebuilding old bikes and cars, I got to do a lot of stuff. I made a set of valve guides for my Triumph 500 out of oilite bronze for example. A milling machine equipped with a DRO is a must have piece of machinery when working on cars or motorbikes. I so wish I could have spent part of my engineering career working with Phil.
True master of the craft (although as often is the case, not the greatest at explaining how he does things and why) but WOW RESPECT, AWE, KING of KINGS of DBD
Wow does that look fun in that beautiful workshop. And building it balanced is absolutely fascinating to me as a VW guy at heart, I’m, did BSA have a harmonic balancing machine? Or was every one done like this?
Excellent engineering and enjoyed the look around. Could the factory in Birmingham (Brum) have been Bulpitt & Sons, Camden Street, Hockley which is Birmingham B18. Famous for making The Swan Brand of kettles 19th and 20th century. I lived near there as a kid. I'm 67 now 👍
Used to live in Hamstead road, just up from where you mention . Not a very nice place now I believe. The fantastic engineering in Birmingham at one time, sadly mostly gone.
Hello Dave,as a follower of your superb and very informative channel,in one of your episodes you were sealing a petrol tank, well I gave the same job to do can't find the episode looked for ages, was wondering what tank sealer you used, many thanks Gary
This is so great! So does he figure out the weight of the piston and con rod, and remove weight from the fly wheel until it’s at the percentage he’s prescribed for the balance point?
Am looking at buying a goldstar dbd34 , but after watching the video of phils workshop i'm worried about it , the bike i'm looking at is showroom condition it has the pearson electric start and pearson suzuki clutch but is running the standard crank , and after watching how weak the cranks are its putting me of buying the bike !!
He is though! I can assure you… i visited him and his wife personally and spoke to him hem several times on the phone, always a joy.. but NOT on camera we did just see 😎

the motorcycle world would be lost with out men like Phil mr gold star . a real star is phil
I'm 78 and with two new knees, wouldn't be able to start my dbd34 without one of Phil's electric starters. Bliss!!

Someone special indeed. Thanks for the video.

A man who can leave the words to his work, astounding craftsmanship. Thank you both for taking us along 👍👌👏
Amazing. Great to see you showcasing these brilliant men in sheds doing incredible things.
What a repository of knowledge and skill sets - somebody needs to clone this amazing man before it's too late🕊
Thank you for such an enriching video.

What a treat and a Legend! Thank you Dave for doing this.
Dave, Alex, and (especially) Phil; thanks very much for producing this video. Wonderful footage, great man, amazing work both in metal and footage.
Hey Kevin, thanks for you nice words, yeah we had fun doing this one, Alex

Absolutely fantastic to see such a talented craftsman turning out work like that and being so humble about it. What a talent!
Gotta love a single.
Especially a big one.
Absolutely sensational tour through the workshop and interview with the great Phil Pearson. Well done sir and keep those Goldie’s Going!
Great to see an expert in his workshop.

Great job Dave. Obviously not the easiest of interviews!
So nice to see Phil “in person”. Such a good interview, just wish someone will be able to follow up this kind of work when he is gone.
That Seeley Goldstar is beautiful, I want it.
I have a rev counter drive of Pearson's, a thing of beauty!
Fantastic
I now feel totally inadequate. Thanks.👍

Thank you , thank you . The basis of my race 500 Goldie is a Pearson crank and cams , although my cylinder head was made hear in NZ by Graham Peters .

One very special man.
Brilliant 👏
I cant help wondering, is Phil passing on his knowledge and knowhow to anyone? Interesting video, thank you.

Great talent but soon to be gone and very few will be left.
How much do you charge per hour ?
Old Phil, he's not one of the world's great communicators is he.
He is though! I can assure you… i visited him and his wife personally and spoke to him hem several times on the phone, always a joy.. but NOT on camera we did just see 😎
The problem is who will replace Phil. Sadly, no one, I would guess.
