- After playing Fender guitars my entire life, my current S-types are partscasters. This week I discuss how and why they came to be some of my main guitars. I talk about why a partscaster may or may not be for you, give some tips and suggestions, and include a short demo of my seafoam green S-type, through my Fender Tone Master, with very mild gain provided by a Mad Professor Sweet Honey overdrive.
Good looking, sounding Strat! Nice blues chops!
Thanks so much and thanks for watching.
I have three Strats. Two of them are bog standard Fenders. The third however, was turned into my slinky blues monster. it started life as my son’s 97 Squier. He gave up guitar so I figured that I would do something with it. The neck and body were in great shape. The frets needed a bit of work, but that was easy enough with my tools. My next step was to replace the electronics, so I went with a set of Tex-Mex pick ups and changed out the selector switch and output jack. The final touch was a tusq nut and a set of Reverend Williy’s. 007 strings.
Nice. It’s great to put in the effort and have it be a success.
I’ve been seeing that Sea foam in the background, didn’t realize it is a party caster! Both of those look great, and in your hands make Great Sounds! 👍
Thanks. 😎
Yeah man! Especially for us lefties. Learning to build one yourself opens a world of possibilities that the big manufacturers won’t build for us.
Yeah, a godsend for lefties. 👍🏼
Nobody want's a sonic dud! Sounds like the name of a band! I'm lucky to have the ideal strat for me, it was almost calling out to me when I was looking in the store all those years ago. I think it was ignored as it is a very boring brown colour and it had obviously seen a fair bit of use. Having said all that, I could see myself putting together one from parts someday just for the fun!
Hang on to the good ones. Thanks for watching.
Mine was serious fun and the overall result was amazing. $139 Squier, Pickups on sale for $99, Tusq Nut for $18, Pure Tone output jack for $5, 5 way CRL switch given to me by a friend, 45 minutes of fret dressing, and the new strings - et voila! Learned a lot along the way and can be very proud of the result.
BTW - be sure to tape over your pickups when you dress the frets. Every bit of filing will end up on them and you'll not see the mess until the filings start to rust. Go ahead, ask me how I know ... 🤣
