In grade school , there were a lot of talisay trees surrounding my school. I used to pound the fallen seeds with rocks and ate the nut inside. Delicious ! But I was the only one doing it ,was warned by teachers that it might be toxic. Stupid ignorance of Filipinos. From RUclips vlogs, I'm learning so many edibles that I missed eating : herbs , spices ,green vegetables cultivated and wild from Mainland Asian countries which also grows widely in the Philippines . Now add talisay seeds to that from this vlog in SriLanka.
My vehemence stems from the fact that I grew up hungry and malnourished needlessly (so were the other children), all because of the laziness of my mother who is otherwise vigorous in having multitude of children . My community never ever gardens vegetables even now, it is not part of Filipino culture. Was a recipient of UNICEFfood in my growing years but only for a blink of an eye it seemed. Food insecurity still prevails in the Philippines but if they educate themselves edibles abound , by the wayside , some growing wild like fiddleheads ,mimosas ,kangkong or plant a vegetable garden. Spare a child
like I was from malnutrition and hunger, practice birth control. The potentials
I totally missed. I might have been taller.🤔
And not suffer from autoimmune chronic kidney disease needing dialysis. I was born in the wrong country whose cuisine is sadly lacking the right stuff.
