I own both (and many more) rifles, the actual German Mausers are fantastic rifles but the only thing I prefer to them are Arisakas. Amazing rifles with lots of great features, the simplified takedown of the Arisakas makes them better alone, plus the 6.5 cartridge is perfectly lethal (even created better wound channels in testing) and so much more comfortable to shoot than 8mm Mauser. The only reasons the Japanese even switched from 6.5 to 7.7 was over concerns about barrier penetration and to simplify the supply chain.
Thank you for the Awesome video... I was actually surprised to see the old type 38 do better at short range than the Mauser as the Type 38 was made to fire from Kneeling positions from cover at distance more than anything else. Thank you for all the Vids with the Japanese weapons...
Fun little fact about the type 38. It has such a strong action that someone rechambered one to 30-06 and it never got rebored (this was before 6.5 jap was available iirc). Some guy complained the rifle kicked way too much and it was found the "30-06" was squeezing the bullet down to the 6.5mm bore
Welcome back Ivan & Finn. I personally have missed your videos, simply because you keep everything as close to reality as possible. Non of that bench supported shootings crap that everyone else does. You are genuine. Thank you for your time and effort. Stay safe. God bless 🙏😇
It's good to see you posting videos again! I was kinda afraid you had abandoned this project, but obviously not! If you are ever able to do the "run-and-gun" type videos again, do you think you'd be able to do the M1 Garand vs the SKS?
I don't see the appeal of the Mauser but the Arisaka, especially a shorter one, seems to be a very good rifle. I'd sooner have my .303 because you can't beat the extra five rounds and slick bolt, but the Arisaka sure has a lot of character.
@Frank Tank Bollocks, it's only got five rounds and a clunky bolt. Hell of a boot to it too. The M1 Garand (semi with 8 rounds) and the Lee Enfield (fast bolt with ten rounds) are better for every purpose the average squaddie would turn their gun too. As a sniper's weapon, I'd certainly favour the K98 for its generally exceptional accuracy--especially with the German special issue sniper ammo--though it's barrel is a bit short and perhaps a scoped Finish Mosin would be better. Do you think I'm missing something? Why would a short, basically magnum calibre, limited capacity when compared with its major competitors and slow rifle be better for an infantryman? I think the Germans themselves answered this question by developing the STG44, G41 and G43, all much better offerings than the K98k as a service rifle. Of course, the backbone of the Wehrmacht was their incredible machine gun (which the Germans still use today), so the purpose of the K98k was primarily defending the guy with the buzzsaw. Please don't take any of this personally, we're just talking about guns here, it's no slight against yourself. I've shot plenty of Mausers and harbour no ill will toward them and if you own you should consider yourself lucky to have such a piece of history.
So the point of making the mauser pouches hold two clips instead of three, is because it's definitely more bulky with the capacity being at three, and the Germans wanted to be more efficient in the prone position, which If you've noticed bulky pouches can be a pain. Also great video I'll definitely be looking forward to another vs between the type 38, and the mauser 98, and I'll just be casting my vote for the winner to be the German infantryman.
It’s interesting to note how similarly armed Japanese and American soldiers would’ve been in that Mid ‘42-43 time frame. Japanese soldier carrying 90 (type 99) - 120 (type 38/type I) round of ammo while the American marine and soldier has 80 (M1 Garand) - 100 (M1903/M41 Johnson) and that’s before both sides might be issued extra bandoliers of ammunition.
You should both try each gun so the shooter's abilities won't matter. I have no idea if one guy is a lousy shot and that's why one gun isn't doing so well.
If your reloads are too tight, then that meants your shoulder isn't correct. You should make dummies to check feeding, and if they are too tight, adjust the die lower to change the shoulder.
Id have counted the arisaka at 34 points the one he BARELY cut the line on the bullseye was mostly in the 1 point sector...but his video his rules I guess, also probably gonna subscribe
I have one in my room. It’s right by my bed. Doesn’t work well I don’t think it works. My dad also has one in his bedroom and we are going to try and test them out. I heard that the ammo is not easy to come by..
After more research and reading etc i came to the conlusion that its a Myth that Kar98 and K98 etc is an accurate rifle. Its more or less exactly as most rifles at that time, what is it like 4-6 moa? Thats not even close to what the myth says they are.
It normally is smooth as silk but this particular batch ended up being a bit tight. The 6.5 is quickly becoming one of my favorite calibers the more I shoot it.
@@nathanb.8114 No shit, a guy took most of all bolt action rifles from WW2 and did extremely abusive tests on them. He filled the Arisaka up with dirt and fired it, all that happened was the barrel came disconnected from the receiver iirc but no actual damage.
@@ClitoridectomyGroyper i also read that apparently in the 50s, a guy went to see a gunsmith and asking the gunsmith to find out what's wrong with his Arisaka rifle, as he think the recoil for his Type 38 was too harsh. Now, his rifle was rechambered for .30-06, however, the previous owner of the gun did not rebarrel the rifle for .30-06. Firing .30-06 through a 6.5mm barrel? Yeah, that's a testament of how robust Arisaka rifles are.

Thanks for watching! I think that they are WAY underrated here in the states and hopefully I can help change some of the myths about them👍
Honestly you can't say one rifle did better when it's 2 different shooters. 1 shooter with both rifles, then maybe.
that is a beautiful type 38

Arisaka the best...
@Wehrmacht nazi deutschland arisaka is bettern and powerful and no have big recoil😉 made in japan=quality german is not very good

Actually the Enfield takes longer to reload due to the extra 5 rounds.
"Mauser" the gun prepared by engineer of japanese imperor's gun bureau, that left the "Nagoya" university.
This looks like a blast! Thanks for the video!
I bet a No.4 Lee Enfield would do really well on this course. I'd like to try that out sometime.
Reloads may be a bit long with how tight it seems, I had that problem with some of mine. Looks to shoot good though, the 38 is an awesome rifle.

Both reliable, both sturdy…
Also if that were a torso at 50 yards that man would be dead
Shoulder belt says "第一挺進団”. Which squadron is this? At any rate I like this.

Great presentation 👌👌
Kar98k that's some awesome grouping low but tight
wow the group shots of kar98k is good

Thanks for the uploads!
The Mauser pouches hold 45 (15 rounds each cell) rounds each for 90 rounds with both pouches on the belt.
Never enough ammo.
Any plans on doing a Mosin vs Carcano? Do you think that would make for a worthwhile comparison?
I’d love to get a carcano long rifle but I haven’t come across one in person yet👍
@@ForestFirearms RTI has them but I've heard they're hit or miss - mostly miss.
What type of camera are you guys using? Very clear footage! I'm trying to get a better camera

Forgot to adjust on the K98
Fin was talking really fast
Is the mum intact on that Arisaka?
Sadly it’s only partially there...but other than that it’s extremely clean
Forest Firearms Ah gotcha! But yeah overall it looks like it’s in very sharp condition. Even the bolt was pretty slick all things considered

What's the price of arisaka 38?....
They are all used but I would guess the price range would be around 200 to 400 depending on condition.
