  • Ever since I first watched Digimon as a 1st grader in China, I've always wanted to go to the Digital World, meet my own partner digimon, go on exciting adventures with my friends, and save the world. Now that I'm 23, I've (somewhat) resigned myself to the fact that I'll never be "chosen"...but that doesn't mean I can't do my own choosing!
This summer, right before medical school starts, I finally went to Japan with my boyfriend, and visited the landscapes that I had up until now only seen in my dreams. Wandering through Hikarigaoka, Odaiba, Shinjuku, and Shibuya, it felt as if my dreams had finally came true, and I was a little kid again - full of wonder, excitement, and hope. It felt like I was able to recapture some precious things I had lost along the way...things that I will hold onto dearly from now on so that I'll never lose them again.
I wanted to upload this on August 1, 2019 - the 20th Odaiba Memorial Day - but seems like I was a bit late, haha. Nonetheless, I hope you enjoy this small dedication to our childhood.
Digital Gate, open! Chosen Children of the world, let's go!

My wife and I watched this yesterday and it’s so FREAKING awesome! Literally, you can tell that you love Digimon so much and seeing you sing the words to Butter-fly...I may not be the person to say this, but I think that Wada Kouji would be SO proud to see someone be true to themselves and so passionate! Seriously, you are so cool and you’re an inspiration! We hit all the big Digimon sights in Tokyo but this is on another LEVEL!

Oh my goodness, what a compliment! I definitely wasn't aiming to be an inspiration, but I'm so glad you and your wife enjoyed it

I went to Japan on Odaiba Memorial Day (August 1st) in 2013 to these exact places, Hikarigaoka and Odaiba on my own Digimon Adventure holiday to see the real-life sites depicted in the original series. It was one of the most incredible experiences as a Digimon fan. From the information board at Nerima Station with the children and Digimon on it, to riding the large Ferris wheel in Odaiba, amazing feeling. We were even given access to the apartment complex in Odiaba where Taichi and Hikari lived. Loved seeing this video, so many memories.

Wow, that's amazing that you got access to the apartment complex! Was it because it was Odaiba Memorial Day?
I'm so glad this video brought back such wonderful memories for you :) While going to these places, I was thinking that there were probably a lot of other Chosen Children around the world who also came to visit the exact same places - and even though I didn't meet any while I was there, it's amazing to think that we were all once here, looking at the same sights!

@@littlecloudflower It was insanely hot that day not surprisingly, as I departed Akihabara where my hotel was, after a quick detour to Hikarigaoka we arrived in Odaiba. I had hoped to see Digimon cosplayers that day around the park but it was empty and very humid. An older lady kindly gave me her fan as we moved through the oppressive heat which I still have today. My guide led me to the Serea Complex there where the children lived in the original series and asked the lady in the lobby if we could have a quick tour. She didn't know Odaiba and the building itself had been used in Digimon and she took us to one of the apartments and opened the balcony where we could see the famous Rainbow Bridge. She said there was no availability at that time but rent exceeded $2,000 USD monthly since it is a major tourist destination and water front property. The children's parents would have to have been well off to live there comfortably.

@@mathewburr4742 Oooh wow, so the person showed you around thinking you were thinking about renting it? That's really amazing that you got to see Rainbow Bridge from there! I was wondering, were you able to see the ferris wheel from the apartment, by any chance? I heard that you can't actually see it from that angle, and the fact that you could see it from Taichi's apartment in Digimon was an artistic choice.

@@mathewburr4742 Also I have to say - as someone who lives in California where housing is super expensive, $2000 USD monthly isn't actually too bad if it's a 2 bedroom apartment haha... I've been trying to look for a single room in a shared apartment recently and it's always like $1100 or above in my area.

@@littlecloudflower We explained to the lady why we were there. He brought up some scenes from Episode 34 when Hikari's identity is revealed as the eighth chosen child and Wizarmon and Tailmon on her balcony. She was kind enough to give us a quick tour and we asked questions about the apartment and was kind enough to print out a layout of the building's floor plan. You heard correct, in reality, the building faces in the opposite direction than in the series and you can't actually see the ferris wheel from their living room.

@@littlecloudflower Are you sure you've seen the Digimon Tri then?
It also went very well, I loved it. Old memories broke out.
I first saw Digimon Adventures in 1999.
Maybe even the Digimon Tamers did very well, card use was pretty cool.

@@Carldancehard I've seen Digimon Tri! It was nostalgic, but I had some problems with it due to the plot holes haha... But I'm very excited to see Kizuna once it comes out in the U.S.
I really loved Tamers, too! Adventure is nostalgic to me, but I do think Tamers was the best season :)

Lol thank you for watching. I was cringing so hard when I was making this, especially since there were people walking by most of these places and some were staring at me >.< but I had to show my love of Digimon somehow haha
Anyways, these are the websites (the second one is archived) I used to locate the places. Hopefully it will be of help to you.
