In a map as small as GTA V's, I do understand why they did it this way, though. I hope with a map like GTA VI's (if the leaks are to be believed) we'll be able to REALLY push our cars to new limits.
All the cars / vehicles had caps because of render distance, etc. For Xbox 360/PS3. I hate how they patch these harmless glitches. HSW gets the niobe 260 without speed glitch. Why can't they add HSW to all vehicles or some sort of GT7 mechanic we're you the player tune the car to have fun.
@BennyHyena I hit 260 without any glitch or special tech, i.e., break boosting. That was with the Niobe. I beat that barely with the speed glitch with a different car but only by 11 mph. The S95 gose like 180 or something, the Itali Stinger gt beats that. Then the niobe beats the Itali stinger gt.
They felt bigger because they were more densely packed. This is something often talked about with GTA V, but once you go north of LS, you start losing detail and exploring becomes tedious. In SA and IV, every inch of the map was used for something.
Actually the map is pretty huge compared to most video games still to this day. The real reason for the low speedlimit is that the PS3 and X360 couldn’t handle rendering any faster.
It was a big map for its time, yes, but when you compare it to a lot of modern games it gets dwarfed very quickly. GTA V's map is about 50 square miles according to some sources, including the massive ocean surrounding it. By comparison Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, another open world shooter that has drivable vehicles, is said to be 780 square miles. The Crew 2 has AT LEAST 3000 miles to its map, and yes, you could argue that it's just because its map is far less detailed, but the point still stands.
Lets face it guys, the cars get really hard to control outside of roads, when you get to the city you’re always bashing npcs. Don’t get me wrong here, it’s really fun! But we wouldn’t be able to race with cars this fast
Not with a map like GTA V's. Thankfully, the leaks from GTA VI seem to suggest that the map will be waaay bigger, so I'm hoping it means cars and planes will also be faster.
@@BennyHyena Most likely yes. The artificial speed limits and the "sense of speed" they tried to add to the game is there to keep the world scale in place. If you could actually do 170, it wouldn't take much time to get to the other end of the map, down the highway, etc. You'd fly over the whole map in probably less than 30 seconds in a jet at speed. At least you get a decent speed bump for planes once you're above the skyline which makes it less painful to fly slow planes cross map
I'm seeing reports that this was just patched. Damn, less than a week lol
Rockstar is no fun
There is no reason why supercars in the game should not reach their realistic speeds of more than 200 miles an hour

The Niobe with HSW only goes about 160 iirc. Again, no regular car in GTA Online has ever broken the 200 barrier without glitching.

the speed cap makes planes/helicopters viable too
Even GTA San and IV’s maps were bigger than the GTA V map in my opinion.
