- daiyalur K. Kalyanaraman Bhagwathar is a contemporary stalwart in DAKSHINA BHARTIYA BHAJANA SAMPRADAYA. He has also been a part of guru- shishya parampara, he learnt the basics of bhajana from his guru shri.Venkatarama Bhagvathar, who was a blind man with a lot of imagination in his singing. Udayalur bhagvathar has leant this sampradayas by attending various bhajans in his childhood with his guru. Udayalur bhagvathar has revived the almost forgotten essence of DAKSHINA BHAJANA SAMPRADAYA. His majestic husky voice attracts his listeners like none other. He is not only famous in INDIA, but, also has travelled to places like AMERICA, SINGAPORE, MALAYSIA, ABU- DHABI etc.

The vidwan’s aksharasuddham - in Tamil, Kannada. Telugu and Sanskrit - suddham is remarkable. He will be loved and also remembered for all time to come.
This is because of his background in the bhajans sampradayam. His musical training is also excellent.
A rare combination. I hope he trains several youngsters to keep the tradition going.

I am a Kannadiga and I liked the way the Purandaradasa compositions are presented here. The rendition is full of devotion and refreshing. Hardcore Kannadigas should gloss over the pronounciation and respect the devotion with which the composition is sung.

Udayalur Kalyanaraman at his best. These are some of the best songs of Purandaradasa, though only 700± songs are available (it is believed that he has written several thousands of songs). Annamayya and Purandaradasa lived during same period and their songs resemble similar thinking. I read somewhere that Purandara met Annamayya in Tirupati and wrote Venkatachalanilayam on that occasion. Udayalur's rendition of this song is one of the best.
I have read some where that purandaradasar has written more than 1.3 lakh
