Francis International Airport in GTA 4 is surprisingly detailed. However, it’s still flawed though. It’s Throwback Thursday, so here goes!! 1: The planes are taxiing around in an endless loop and never taking off or landing. 2: The airport cars (noted as “feroci2” and “perennial2” in the game’s files). I would forgive them on the grounds that real airports have a “follow me” car to assist planes with taxiing, and to guide other vehicles, such as construction vehicles, or limousines carrying celebrities to or from their private jets (Captain Joe has a whole video on that). However, Francis International is way too small to necessitate a “follow me” car. In addition to that, the airport cars in GTA 4 look nothing like a real “follow me” car. There are no “follow me” markings on them, only FlyUS logos. Plus the light bar on the roof of the airport car wouldn’t comply with FAA regulations. 3: The airport is well detailed, but it’s wasted on the fact that you can’t actually fly the planes without mods, as some of my videos show. Even then, you don’t get engine noise or propeller/jet animations, and the controls only pitch and roll. You don’t get yaw control, which necessitates steeper bank angles for tight turns while flying, and you can only taxi in a straight line. 4: Signs saying “CAUTION YOUR BLAST” next to the runway. What does that even mean? Is it a typo? Is it a crude joke, like the ones that are part of the furniture in all GTA games? In any case, it makes a good stunt jump, particularly on a motorcycle, but that serves no purpose other than one’s own enjoyment because, unlike previous GTA games, you don’t get any reward for stunt jumps. 5: Ray Bulgarin’s private jet. Not only does the door open so Luis can subdue the bodyguard and get in as the plane reaches V1, but also, it opens again in mid flight and Luis descends to safety with a parachute as the plane is destroyed in the air by a grenade. There is absolutely no way that would work because jet planes are pressurised, and the doors are held shut by the pressure because they are plug doors (Mentour Pilot has a whole video on that).
United States Marine Corps have aircraft squadrons and stations. Also with helicopters. Base can be a Joint Base. Air Force have security forces which gets combat training.
2:58 Usually airbases do have air force infantry that patrol around, however you'll see them with less gear than an army soldier on them 3:36 Military do also operate civilian vehicles painted with a livery that indicates it belongs for them, in my country they use Ford Rangers for example apart of Humvees 4:41 It's a water purification pool I think And the Cargobob and Rhino tank around it might indicate that this is a joint military base which means more than one military branch can operate from there
air force bases (stateside) will NOT have "infantry" patrolling around. the closest thing to that would be security forces driving around in a police car on base/manning gates.
@@_TAKticianformer Army guy here but, "Security forces" are a form of infantry. Similar to Army/MC MPs. They operate as a police element base side but, can be deployed for combat as regular infantry. This is basically like saying Marines aren't infantry because they're part of the Navy. However "Marine" is just another way of saying "Naval Infantry". However unlike Army/MC MPs. Air Force SF guys are pretty much purely for base security & will likely have an Army unit to deploy outside the wire. This doesn't mean SF can't be deployed outside the wire but, not likely for combat mission. Also, whenever you see those guys on missions calling in airstrikes. somewhat of a GTA 5 veteran here (playing since 2014). ive been to this base countless times and while ive never cared about most of the stuff youve mentioned, i have noticed the random runway and the buzzard/lazer parked randomly and ON the taxiway (you'd collide with them if you were in any plane). Something i would add to this is the fact the helipads are placed directly under the glideslope of Runway 30, along with the extremely tall runway lights which can be a hazard even for a medium sized aircraft. I like to land in first person and i always feel like im about to hit the runway lights, but i never do. However there was one time that a helicopter took off right in front of me as i was landing there, and i panicked because i ofc didnt expect it. So instead of going around for another attempt, i threw the joystick sideways which caused the plane to tilt to the right at a 90⁰, then the right wing hit one of the runway lights, tearing it off. Then i spun upside down and crashed. Honestly that was insane and i have had very few *actual* plane crashes in gta 5. That is definitely something they better have taken care of in gta 6

I absolutely agree that the US military using AKs makes me cringe. There is a perfectly good M4 in the vanilla game already and they also added a perfectly fine and modern AR15 design (Carbine Rifle Mk2), also a literal M16. I would adore a patch to fix this issue.
TBF, magazine was closer to an AKM than the AK12, and in game, the iron sights are nothing close to an AK12. I would say AKM or AK103 is the closest to the in game model
0:33 Most USAF bases do not have hangar storage for most planes on hand, usually either sitting out in the elements (they will survive most climates) for heavier and larger aircraft like Cargo and Bomber. Fighters usually just have shaded pavilion style parking spots mostly to shade the aircraft from the sun so the pilots don't burn themselves upon sitting in said jet, or damage avionics in the rain if the canopy is open. As these aircraft are usually in deserts or warmer climates.
@@iFlorinARDE In the U.S, if a traffic light isn't working, you're taught in driver's Ed to treat the intersection as a 4-way stop. You'll never see a stop sign at an intersection with a light, as it gives conflicting signals
Interestingly enough, while A.I will turn left (in some games they don't, such as Watch Dogs 2) it clearly doesn't understand that left-turning traffic yields to oncoming and right-turning traffic, as the A.I will randomly cut people off when turning left. Also, they'res an implication of protected turns, but not of the traffic signals have arrows, so you can never tell what's supposed to be a protected turn, and what's just a green light
So as someone in the Air Force, I have some things to say. The jet isn’t facing the wrong way in the hangar, we park the jets facing out towards the door. The Hangar also looks as if it could be a backshop or Phase hangar which are larger hangers where heavier maintenance is done. My base has tanks as the Army also has personnel here but on display, obviously not ones to drive around. You can find other service aircraft on base sometimes because they’ll stop to get gas or have a reason to be on base. Just some little info to add, liked the video
The military got like no attention in this game lol. The military members that chase you are supposed to have military police vehicles or humvees and the gate guard is supposed to ask you for ID not point a gun at you😂
Sandy shores Airfield kind of reminds me of an old WW 2 base with the main runway being for heavy bombers to operate from with a shorter secondary runway for escorting fighters to use.
The "Leopard 2A4" tank is in fact, not just, a German Leopard 2A4 tank. Its closer based on the South Afrikan TTD and takes elements from the Japanese Type 90 tank. its basically 3 tanks, mashed together.
0:42 Smaller aircrafts are allowed to park in hangars that are "too big" for them, the main issue here is that, not only it doesnt alighn with parking lines again, but it also takes up a place for a bigger aircraft. (Bigger aircrafts cant become smaller with one clap, thats why hangar needs to have this place in case of emergency ( Smaller aircrafts are usually parked near walls of hangar)) 3:00 The "Fort" in "Fort Zancudo" probably means the fact that its both, if someone , for some reason, attacks Los Santos, Fort holds some potential from the get-go, however the Fort can always request additional power via air, and maybe even sea. Active Air Force F-16 crew chief here. My guess about this base is that it’s a joint base of some sort, judging by all of the different vehicles around. I don’t work at a joint base, but in my base we don’t have Security Forces walking around on the line with AKs and no helmets lol. You are right about the outdoor parking - they seldom have aircraft outside of the overhangs, usually only for certain things like at a certain shop that doesn’t have a lot of indoor space, at EOR, troubleshooting certain things like GPS where you need to see the sky above the aircraft, trim pad runs, etc. Also we do just leave tow bars unattended like that on the ready line, we just take a coleman or bobtail over and pick them up when we need it. Fun fact; I went around to look at the different AGE (aerospace ground equipment) they have around the flightline and most things are actually pretty accurately modeled. I don’t have too much else to add, just wanted to throw a few things out there. I liked the video too btw :)
One thing to take into account is that Rockstar is a British company. They don't have the Military/Gun aspect of our culture, so it totally makes sense why they would get alot of that stuff wrong. I mean it could all be solved by having firearms consultants or armed forces veterans guiding you through the processes of making guns and military stuff, but I can forgive them for not putting a whole let of effort into that field all the way back in 2010-2013 when all of that stuff was being developed
TACAN is used by way more than fighter pilots. AGE (Aerospace Ground Equipment like towbars, power carts, A/C carts, etc.) are almost always left at a ready line by themselves, so the tug not being there for the bar is fine. Aircraft are often towed and positioned in spots that aren't marked parking spots for show and tell, ceremony backdrops, etc... Also, I hate to break it to you, but planes are almost always parked outside and uncovered. - Aircraft Avionics Technician
It's a chad move. Just because a piece of media has been out for a while doesn't automatically mean everyone has experienced it. I hate when people spoil shit and then turn around and use that justification.
The bit you said about soldiers in an Air Force base... i'm ex R.A.F. Regiment (🇬🇧), my job was Air Force Infantry... so i did march around Airbases.. not sure about U.S though
That’s not necessarily that weird tbh. In fact, an airforce base in Switzerland has a public road going over the runway, closed off by militants and train type crossing gates and lights if a fighter jet is landing. You can watch a Tom Scott video about it!
I think the American armed forces are represented like that for three reasons in GTA. One, to avoid getting sued/in trouble for imitating one particular branch way too well. Two, to make them feel like a generic enemy and not an actual soldier, and from no particular branch at that. Three, and I think this is the main one, *to take the piss a bit better at the U.S. Armed Forces, lmao.* I think mixing all the branches into one crude parody amalgamation feels like a better roast than anything else the game could say, lmao.
Even the name is wrong, its an Airbase. A fort should be loaded with bunkers, barracks, vehicle storage hangars, armories, fuel depo, maybe a runway too or heli pads.
To be fair I completely agree with the fire truck point. Such a massive game studio but they only made one fire truck. And that goes for all of the in game services, 1 ambulance, 1 fire trucks, 5 cop car models with reskins. They probably altered the appearance of the f-16 and the chinook to avoid a lawsuit. Plus every vehicle in gta are fictional vehicles based on real life ones
The reason the Zancudo base doesn't really have much in the hangers and around is because most of the aircraft around were probably stationed at a different base because the Zancudo base was deemed to be less crucial to ongoing conflicts from what I know about lore, thats also why the hangers are able to be purchased by players because they are just so empty that the military might as well rent them out to those who can afford it.
Merryweather is a private military, not the United States military in GTA V. It's not a parody of the US Military either, everyone in Fort Zancudo is a PMC to some degree so I guess it makes some sense they can use whatever they want.
I was an F-16 tech in Ramon Air Force Base. We didn't have tanks inside but they would often train right outside the perimeter, Also whole bunch of spec ops would train on navigating inside and outside of the base in the desert, they're the types who would occasionally rock AK-47s

I don't think you'll find any Air Force bases named "Fort" and the ones that are typically take the name of a person, not a place. Conversely, you won't find a lot of fighter jets stationed on Army installations. Which leads me to the conclusion that Fort Zancudo is really Joint Base Los Santos/Zancudo AFB. They could benefit from a little outside expertise haha.

If Anything, there should be Single Engine Turboprop Aircraft on the Facility. According to the Wiki, it's used by the Army, Marines and the Air Force so it technically should be called "Joint Base Zancudo". For the Vehicles, Rockstar likely did everything they did not just for the Lore of GTA, but also to avoid getting slapped with Copyright Infringement suits. Yes, Apparently anything after 1999 is Protected by Copyright Laws, meaning using actual American Military Equipment would have the Federal Government dogpiling on Rockstar worse than the ATF going on the Branch Dividian at Waco, Nevermind the Fact that it's actual F-16C "Viper" Fighting Falcon Fighters, F/A-18E Super Hornets, CH-53E Super Stallion and CH-47D Chinook Heavy Lift Cargo Helicopters or even M1A2 SEP V2 or V3 Main Battle Tanks, all of which would only serve to Legitimize the Federal government going after them, It's doing so without the Express Permission of either the Federal government or the Contractors who Manufactured these Vehicles like General Dynamics, Boeing, Sikorsky, etc. Although as far as the Rhino still looking like an Outdated Leopard 2A4 Main Battle Tank is Concerned, maybe Krauss-Maffei or even the Reichstag weren't all that Concerned about it to do the same. You've got a decent point with the Radar to be honest. Most, if not all, Radars are on the Top of the Air Traffic control towers. Back to the Matter on Size..... The whole Base is Too small. You can't even fit a Modded KC-135 Stratotanker Aerial Refueling Tanker or a C-5M Galaxy Strategic Heavy Lift Cargo Aircraft in there without knocking the Wingtips into some part of the Base! Let me know what you think about this and I'll catch you in your next video man!
I'm a fireman and i too hate what rockstar did to the fire trucks as well as all emergency vehicles for that matter. Fort Zancudo and LSIA airport should have yellow or green crash trucks. Also for some reason every fire is fought with a deluge gun or fire extinguisher. Why does Rockstar hate the idea of showing an attack line being pulled from an engine? Great video mate!
You should do sins for each aircraft. So many things bugged me from backwards and or mirrored instrumentation on cockpit avionics, to the way holding your slowest speed (idle throttle), turns off your engine. Little things that wouldn't have hurt general gameplay for those not used to flying, but would have at least made it seem they consulted a pilot.
1:40 Another thing you should note, the LAZER has the separated air intakes, very similar to the Eurofighter Typhoon... which has two engines, the LAZER, like the F-16, has one. You see the issue.
I’m just gonna say it’s an army aviation base since the base seems to revolve around its planes. Every base can have anyone from a different branch like at Camp Pendleton marine Corp base, if you hang around enough you’ll find airmen and soldiers. As for sailors it’s pretty normal to find sailors in MCBs and vice versa
2:18 Setting aside all the imperfections, I'd like to say this might be trying to replicated a carrier landing training runway. For example, MCAS Miramar's runway 24L in real life has a simulated carrier deck painted in the middle of the runway for this purpose.
There being only one type of an aircraft in a base is actually realistic, since air units usually have 12 or whatever same planes, rather than random 3 f-16's, 2 f-18's, 4 f-22's and so on.
it's not an air force base, it's an army base that is guarded by marines that have been equipped by merryweather security to guard an ammo depot owned by the airforce

I will say, on the flightline, (any soft) Covers are a no-go since they can get blown away by wind and flung into aircraft, Kevlar n Kit would most definitely be the move in this case lol

Need to do GTA 4's Airport
@@MrSupercar55yeah but it's too way small
6: There's a plane flying around the map in an endless loop with endless fuel

United States Marine Corps have aircraft squadrons and stations. Also with helicopters. Base can be a Joint Base. Air Force have security forces which gets combat training.
2:58 Usually airbases do have air force infantry that patrol around, however you'll see them with less gear than an army soldier on them
3:36 Military do also operate civilian vehicles painted with a livery that indicates it belongs for them, in my country they use Ford Rangers for example apart of Humvees
4:41 It's a water purification pool I think
And the Cargobob and Rhino tank around it might indicate that this is a joint military base which means more than one military branch can operate from there
"air force infantry"
literally doesn't exist
air force bases (stateside) will NOT have "infantry" patrolling around. the closest thing to that would be security forces driving around in a police car on base/manning gates.
I work on the flightline and I have never seen "infantry" roaming around
Those are most likely Air-Force guys attached to whatever element is on a combat mission. Be they Army, Marine or Navy.
@@RadeUeMasq yes i will say SF CAN do that stuff, but they usually don't. so in my mind they don't really register as infantry. also SF has nothing to do with airstrikes, that'll be done by TACPs or maybe CCTs
somewhat of a GTA 5 veteran here (playing since 2014). ive been to this base countless times and while ive never cared about most of the stuff youve mentioned, i have noticed the random runway and the buzzard/lazer parked randomly and ON the taxiway (you'd collide with them if you were in any plane). That is definitely something they better have taken care of in gta 6
might as well be part of the GTA 6 development team to probably help them design the airports there BEFORE ITS ALL TOO LATE.
It's all too late, the game is already done, they're focusing on optimizing

I absolutely agree that the US military using AKs makes me cringe. There is a perfectly good M4 in the vanilla game already and they also added a perfectly fine and modern AR15 design (Carbine Rifle Mk2), also a literal M16. I would adore a patch to fix this issue.

U wanna know a video thats gonna be annoying to do? “Everything wrong with gta's street signs” they have stop signs at stop lights 🤦🏾♂️
GTA IV and GTA V are both a MUTCD nightmare!
well, based by EU road law, the stop sign is there in case the traffic lights stop working. The US road law might be different so i don't know.
Also, they'res an implication of protected turns, but not of the traffic signals have arrows, so you can never tell what's supposed to be a protected turn, and what's just a green light
cause it's satire mate
So as someone in the Air Force, I have some things to say. The jet isn’t facing the wrong way in the hangar, we park the jets facing out towards the door. The Hangar also looks as if it could be a backshop or Phase hangar which are larger hangers where heavier maintenance is done. My base has tanks as the Army also has personnel here but on display, obviously not ones to drive around. You can find other service aircraft on base sometimes because they’ll stop to get gas or have a reason to be on base. Just some little info to add, liked the video
1:52 L-39 are used as civilian aircraft in the US, also this plane is more of a mix of an L-39 and and F-5 Tiger.
50 sins for saying they walk around with guns.
"This is my Rifle. This is my gun. This is for fighting. This is for fun."
The military got like no attention in this game lol. The military members that chase you are supposed to have military police vehicles or humvees and the gate guard is supposed to ask you for ID not point a gun at you😂
yep, every single time I've ever visited my cousin at his base, I've never been threatened by an MP before LMAO
or when they say divert your course or you'll be shot down while simultaneously shooting missiles at you lmao
Good Video!! do the Sandy Shores airfield next!
(Bigger aircrafts cant become smaller with one clap, thats why hangar needs to have this place in case of emergency ( Smaller aircrafts are usually parked near walls of hangar))
3:00 The "Fort" in "Fort Zancudo" probably means the fact that its both, if someone , for some reason, attacks Los Santos, Fort holds some potential from the get-go, however the Fort can always request additional power via air, and maybe even sea.
Do note that im not expert (actually really far from being one) dont take my things with 100% confidence, correct me if i am wrong.
2:23, the runways are parallel but have different runway numbers, the numbers should either be 30L and 30R or 33L and 33R
4:16 - 4:27 There are such a thing as Joint Bases. Ex. one from my state of New Jersey is Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.

The centre line runway lights are bumpy and that makes me sad.

Hi redsparrow gang
One thing to take into account is that Rockstar is a British company. They don't have the Military/Gun aspect of our culture, so it totally makes sense why they would get alot of that stuff wrong. I mean it could all be solved by having firearms consultants or armed forces veterans guiding you through the processes of making guns and military stuff, but I can forgive them for not putting a whole let of effort into that field all the way back in 2010-2013 when all of that stuff was being developed
Im sure they have plenty of advisors in the us
@@SpidaMezLikely nowadays that would be true but I think there were less of them during GTA V's development.

The most anticipated video sequel I've ever seen in my life. I need more of this.

correct
TACAN is used by way more than fighter pilots. AGE (Aerospace Ground Equipment like towbars, power carts, A/C carts, etc.) are almost always left at a ready line by themselves, so the tug not being there for the bar is fine. Aircraft are often towed and positioned in spots that aren't marked parking spots for show and tell, ceremony backdrops, etc... Also, I hate to break it to you, but planes are almost always parked outside and uncovered. - Aircraft Avionics Technician
4:42 this is a waste water treatment plant, some military bases has their own waste water treatment facility.

How did bro get me in the intro?💀
Merryweather is a private military, not the United States military in GTA V. It's not a parody of the US Military either, everyone in Fort Zancudo is a PMC to some degree so I guess it makes some sense they can use whatever they want.
Rockstar puts a ton of attention to detail in the stupidest things. Then they make massive blaring issues in something else.
Fort Zancudo is not run by the United States military it is run by Merryweather which is basically blackwater. The water things is a sewage plant.
Great vid, I always thought Fort Zancudo was so nonsensical
I was an F-16 tech in Ramon Air Force Base. We didn't have tanks inside but they would often train right outside the perimeter, Also whole bunch of spec ops would train on navigating inside and outside of the base in the desert, they're the types who would occasionally rock AK-47s
Rockstar basically said: Let’s combine anything military related and hope the players won’t mind a couple mistakes here and there😂😂
The pit of water appears to be some type of Waste water treatment plant
Those C130 blades definitely aren’t feathered
You should definitely make a video ‘Everything wrong with Mt. Chiliad’ , it would be amazing to see 😂
Someone said you should do Francis International Airport from GTA IV here, and I agree - but also, do all the other ones from the other older GTA games!
It’s completely normal to leave helicopters outside
Should look at some of the beta images representing the base. It was originally supposed to be much larger but Mount Joseiah took it's place.

Tow bars aren't connected to a tug unless an A/C is actively being pulled
Loved the video @Spida! Can't wait for the next video man! First video of yours that I'm watching and absolutely loving the content man! I have a Few things about Fort Zancudo (or "Fort Mosquito" for those who also look at the Wiki) that mostly agree with you.
Yes, the Whole Base is basically too Small.
Let me know what you think about this and I'll catch you in your next video man!
thank you!
It seems unlikely that a secure military base would have a public highway tunnel directly underneath the runways.
I could imagine Airforce Security using a MBT for convoy escorts in the GTA universe tbh
1:41 ngl imma knock points off since all of R*'s vehicles are parodys, so i wouldnt mark this as being something wrong, as it is a FICTIONAL AIRCRAFT

The only way I could justify the army being at an air force base is that it's a joint base.

This is a really awesome video idea, and a really good and funny video too. thank you for this : )
1:40 Another thing you should note, the LAZER has the separated air intakes, very similar to the Eurofighter Typhoon... which has two engines, the LAZER, like the F-16, has one. You see the issue.
A random thing I found is that there is an elevator you can go into and for whatever reason you can lose your wanted level inside that elevator
153: the runway centreline lights sit too high, such that some aircraft will be bounced out of control by them.
yes was waiting for this
I’m just gonna say it’s an army aviation base since the base seems to revolve around its planes.
3:11 achktually that's a type 56-2, a chinese clone of the AK 🥸☝
it's not an air force base, it's an army base that is guarded by marines that have been equipped by merryweather security to guard an ammo depot owned by the airforce
The Cargobob's fuselage is probably based on a CH-46 Sea Knight than a CH-47 Chinook. The CH-46 is a tandem-rotor helicopter like the Chinook, but smaller.
I'm surprised that you didn't add a sin on the tank's unusable heavy machinegun which they could've easily made usable.
There's often Tug bars laying around without an tug on there.
