This is just stretching the term API. Peripherals to a computer is an API as it simplifies providing input to it. My fingertips are the API for my brain as it will process the input I am getting, same with other senses.

Well, yes. Ultimately, software is nothing but a tool to allow you to act out your intentions clearly while hiding implementation details when they would only clutter your mind. So all of these ideas are basically a conceptual attempt to be able to say “get me this document” instead of “asynchronously fetch this file id from the first shard on on the distributed database”.
