Wow! Amazing Finds!! I live in Alberta and I see species NOTHING like these. Love to see all these unique species!
Haha, yeah! Quite a difference isn't it?
@@BadgerlandBirding Yup!!
@@BadgerlandBirding yeah, lots of variety
In my opinion, I think costa rica is the best birding place in the world. Highest density of bird species anwhere. So cool
Awesome video!
Thanks!
Wonderful🌝
Thanks!
Very impressive!
Thanks!
Those northern Jacana chicks stole the show ; especially the third chick finding a spot to hide and daddy always makes room for all his chicks 😍. The green honey creeper is too cute .
Haha yes they definitely did steal the show.
Two words. Just beautiful!
Agreed!
awesome! recently found my old pictures from when I went to Costa Rica years ago. It was good to see all the birds I forgot taking pictures of
Awesome!
Loving the Blue-Grey and Palm Tanagers 👍
Palm Tanagers are underrated 👍
@@BadgerlandBirding Are either one of them found in the United States?
@@aknightthatsaysnee5259 sadly no, and it looks like neither has ever been vagrant in the US. Looks like Blue-gray does stray into Mexico near South Texas at times, so it wouldn’t be totally out of the question for one to show up someday.
@@BadgerlandBirding Thanks. Well I live in southwest Texas (El Paso). I'll keep my eyes peeled and I'll let you know! I'll keep an eye out for the 'squatch, too. Who knows?!
@@aknightthatsaysnee5259 haha I appreciate that! 😂 Did you go for the Bat Falcon?
Amazing video, perfect to watch in anticipation for a trip there
Thank you!
Wow! What a great assortment of birds! Thanks for sharing!
You're welcome!
I visited South America (Guyana) after I first saw this video, so it was nice to revisit it and see some of the birds I saw over there, like the palm and blue gray tanagers.
I hope you guys get to make some tropical birding trips again. It was fun seeing you in a different kind of environment. I highly recommend Guyana. It's not as well known, but with over 785 species documented, it's an incredible place to bird and great value for your money.
Great to know! I still have some Costa Rica content to finish so hopefully more tropical birds soon 👍
Awww the little legs under daddy.. looked beautiful!.. a friend is vacationing in Guadalajara.., and has been sending me videos of their activities.. every single one .., the birds are loud and proud.. I have no clue what they are but on sounds alone make me want to visit.. thanks for sharing..❤️☮️
Yes! The Jacana chicks definitely stole the show. And that’s awesome about your friend! :)
Happy to see you go from cold/snow to a warm environment. Great video. Thank you. I’m not sure I would have been as calm seeing a cayman. Lol
Haha it definitely caught me off guard being on the path.
What an amazing video. I'd love to stay at that place. How exciting!
I would definitely recommend it!
Wow what an amazing place, really enjoyed the video!
Thank you!!
Amazing! Thanks for sharing.
You’re welcome!
I’ve been to Costa Rica four times. Thanks for sharing your excursion. Brings back lots of memories.
That’s awesome! You’re welcome!
@@BadgerlandBirding some of my favorites were resplendent quetzal, violet saberwing, sunbittern, the macaws 🦜. The food was excellent, especially with the Lizano salsa on every table wherever we went. I have several bottles of the stuff. Wonderful country.
That Jacana footage was neat! Great video!!
Quickly realizing who the fan favorite bird was 👀
That's awesome!
Thanks!
You need to come to South Africa. Some of the best birding in the world.
I literally screamed "MONTEZUMA OROPENDOLA" when I saw the thumbnail, I think my friend is concerned for my sanity 😬
Haha I wish you had that on video to share.
WOW! That is probably my favorite video you guys have made! SO COOL!
Breathtaking! The colours and varieties are amazing and you got some seriously great quality footage and images. Thank you so much for thinking of us so we can enjoy your trip too. Your breakfast looked delicious too!
It was! One of my favorite things there was called a cafe Maquenque which was a special coffee drink. Overall the food was fantastic throughout the trip.
850 species in such a small country isn't fair.... 😭
Haha, you’ll just have to visit!
Hola lindo vídeo, saludesdesde San Ramón de Alajuela costa Rica🇨🇷
Amazing Costa Rica birding trip. This would be in my international birding list. Very cool 👍😎
Thanks! Would highly recommend!
I stayed there - lots to see and explore. Good local guides. Amazing birds. Tame tarantula. Nice to cross the river to get there. Hope the new tree top lodges don’t dilute the experience
Beautiful video, thanks for sharing! Glad you had a wonderful time birding here in Costa Rica 🦥 pura vida!
Incredible -- thanks so much for pulling all this together and sharing it. Really looking forward to more. And can I say -- I always love the geographic outlines you use of states (and now, countries) with the logo. Your effort is appreciated!
Thank you! I’ve really been enjoying doing some more graphic design lately so I really appreciate the comments 👍
Somehow I knew that white spot on the path you were walking was a caiman as soon as that clip started. I was afraid you were going to step on it, but I guess it didn't want to be stepped on. About the birds, I think that if I ever get to go to Costa Rica, I'll be so overwhelmed with all the birds that I won't be able to identify any species. :D That's cool that you were able to capture the jacana with its chicks.
Haha, yeah! I was worried I would be too overwhelmed the whole time but I pretty much just felt energized all the time. The hard part is not knowing what's "rare" or not, so it's hard to know what species to focus on. Every bird we saw I felt like I might never see it again so I took lots of videos, haha. If I knew I might have a better view of something later I probably would have managed my time differently.
@@BadgerlandBirding True! I think I would spend several months in advance trying to learn what's rare and what's not, but even then, I would probably forget it all as soon as I saw a bird.
Awesome video! Learned a lot, very entertaining, pretty hilarious, and so much biodiversity! Will there be a part 2?
There will be like 15 parts 😂
@@BadgerlandBirding Yes!!! Awesome :)
Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful experience with us! The birds are just gorgeous. I wonder why Costa Rica chose the clay-colored thrush as its national bird when there are many more noticeable species around. I loved the Northern jacana chicks. They are so cute, and so are the baby coatis!
I wondered that as well! Apparently it can be found in a lot of places (even some urban areas) so most everyone is familiar with it and it has a very pretty song. It’s a gorgeous bird too! Just not as bright as some of the others.
@@BadgerlandBirding Thanks for the explanation! That makes sense. I also think it is a pretty bird, just not the most colorful.
I'm excited to see your next Costa Rica video. Thank you for taking us along. Is your brother with you?
Unfortunately not for the Costa Rica trip since it was a school trip through the University I attend.
@Badgerland Birding I hope you and your brother will be able to go together in the future. I was wondering if that camp or resort I'm not sure what you call it, but can it be reserved by individuals?
@@suzettecalleja3122 yeah! I believe so! Our guide Jose would know more about the specifics. I included a link to his website in the description if you would like to reach out :)
What a beautiful birds there. Maybe someday you should to try birding in Indonesia...😊 Thanks for sharing
Would love to some day!
Hi did you use the same camera you usually use to film this great footage👍
Thanks
Yup! The Panasonic FZ80 for the bird shots (some I shot in 30fps and some in 60fps) and the Nikon D5300 for most of the Vlog style shots. I also brought a smaller Cayer FP2450 Fluid Head Tripod on this trip since I didn't want to bring my larger video tripod (I'll be doing a review of the tripod soon).
@@BadgerlandBirding many thanks for the info. Steve from 🇬🇧
That’s great. Can’t wait to see more. What field guide did you use?
I used "The Birds of Costa Rica: A Field Guide (Zona Tropical Publications)" by Garrigues and Dean and it was great! According to a few people I talked to there, it's the best one. However, a few of the species were split/lumped since it was published in 2014. There's also a guide by the same authors but with photos instead of illustrations.
Here's a link on Amazon if you're interested: We do earn from qualifying purchases which helps us out! I think I'm going to do a review about it on the channel soon too.

I also used the Merlin Bird ID app which worked really well, except when I didn't have reception, which was in a lot of places because I didn't get an international phone plan.
Thx for your vedeo mate such a great help
Awesome trip and video! I’m impressed you got a video out in only a month’s time since your trip. You must be editing video like those birds were chowing down on the fruit! Brings me back to birding in Belize many years ago. I’m looking forward to more from Costa Rica.
Thanks! We can get a video made pretty quickly. What can take a long time is if multiple parties are involved because then it normally undergoes revisions and that can take a while.
Just awesome and so informative, thank you so much. Can you let me know where did you stay in terms of accommodation that was close to the feeders? and is the place safe for solo female traveler? thanks a million.
4:07 check out the big ol turtle, also waiting for a feed of fruit.
Great video! What field guide did you use for Costa Rica?
When’s the next Costa Rica video dropping?!
🤔 it’s a surprise 😉
How do you go over there? Like how do u rent a room and get a plane over there?
Wow! What amazing species! I am from Illinois, but right now I am in Florida. I am going to myakka state park. What kind of birds should I look out for?
Florida is great for wading and marsh birds, but there's a ton of cool stuff there! Is that in Sarasota County?
@@BadgerlandBirding thank you! We saw herons ibis spoonbills stilts yellowlegs eagles Osprey vultures cranes warblers and many many more! I highly recommend the park. Amazing variety. Even saw roseate spoonbill and wood stork!
@@BadgerlandBirding yes it is in Sarasota county.
@@BadgerlandBirding the park has so much variety compared to the Chicago suburbs! I put together this: ruclips.net/video/NgkB_ZQxj6k/видео.html
