well, the nice thing about this type of stove is that you can easily snuff it with the lid and once it cooled down you can pour the unused fuel back into yout storage container saving some fuel. that cant be done with the carbon felt puck stove when you used too much fuel. while the puck stove doesnt spill and you can put the lid on it isnt tight enough (no seal) to prevent the unused fuel from slowly evaporationg.
You are right. In my opinion all the alcohol stoves that have felt inside them tend to be on the wasteful side of fuel. I noticed that when using the military style Trangia burner as opposed to the civilian models. On the civilian and knock off Chinese stoves, I pour all the unused fuel back in the bottle via a small funnel. From the Military stoves, nearly nothing comes back out. It will eventually evaporate.
I don't drain fuel out of my Trangias, I have a couple of brew kits with fueled burners. That's why I like the Trangias, I can have a couple of brews with out having to carry a fuel bottle. I've never had an issue with them.
My Alcohol Burners that I have modified with Carbon Felt and / or Ceramic Wool, I have learned approximately how much fuel is required for whatever is to be heated or boiled .. not having a problem with having to top up / refill the burner if needed, to complete the job.
I’m kind of new to these cooking stoves I’ve made quite a few penny stoves also made 2 of those fancy feast stoves those work awesome also made a few hobo stoves they also work great I ordered this stove a few days ago just waiting to get it it comes from Australia. I’m 65 male recently retired so I enjoy playing around with these stoves
👍👍👍 .. yes, that did not go as well as one would have hoped. Although .. the Trangia Burner has a double wall. Having filled mine, the centre chamber with Felt and Wool, I still get the bloom. Why? Pure speculation on my part now follows 🙄😏 .. 1. The bottom half of the fuel chamber in my burner is relatively 'loosely filled' with Glass Wool and then topped with a tight-fitting roll of Carbon Felt to keep everything in place. Perhaps this allows for easier movement of the fuel below, to the bottom orifices leading into the double wall Wick'd 'Bloom Chamber'? 2. The double wall chamber in the Trangia, having the wicking material therein, will then move the fuel up to the bloom ring burner holes, albeit slower in the beginning until things 'heat up' whereas, in your test, a tight dense Carbon Felt inner which will tend to absorb and 'hold' the fuel, combined with (I take it that this stove double chamber does not contain wicking of any sort .. relying rather on capillary action) .. combined with the Carbon Felt fuel retention .. just not enough? I hope this makes sense .. once again, speculation on my part. I suspect that the 'Moon Lander' may have to 'remain Commando' should one want any fire of note to burn in it's belly 😏. Thanks for sharing .. interesting food for thought though .. something to 'mull' over (and mulling is good 😊). Until next time then, take care ..

Yes. I should have mentioned that in the videos. It's what I've done after every use. 🙂
The alcohol pours out nicely with little spillage.

Hahaha, After I retired I started making penny stoves and such and here I am today.
Would be perfect if you heated up hot chocolate with it and had a marshmallow astronaut to melt into the chocolate. 👨🚀
😄 do they make marshmallow astronauts? I need to get them.
