Don’t know why this popped up on my feed but I’m from Detroit who’s going to be in PA next week about an hour away. I’m going to try and stop by if I can! Looks like a cool store!

You need a nice amp & speakers first off. I use a tablet hard wired to my amp. Some, IMO, is overkill. They are very nice but i can't see a reason for a streamer as i mostly play vinyl & CDs. I'm just saying what works for me. Spotify is more than enough for my application.

So explain what the difference(s) are, instead of just giving a blind marketing pitch. Tell me how a high-end DAP or phone does a worse job than X Cambridge streamer.

In the case of phones they resample the music stream. Generally to a lower quality (bit rate). Bluetooth and AirPlay compressed the stream before sending it to the output device thus lowering the quality. Dedicated streaming like the CXN100 stream directly from the whatever music service you're using without downsampling it. So for example, if you are using Tidal, the streamer will stream via Tidal Connect and so you're getting the original data quality from Tidal. Doing this via a phone means the stream goes through the phone first and gets downsampled before it gets to the output device. Hope that helps.

@@dazza1976- If you use a USB DAC there is no resampling. I do this from iOS all the time to a USB AKM DAC and it can do lossless high-res fine.
      - Airplay sends ALAC 16/44.1 only to an Airplay v1 device. I send to a firmware Airplay v1 Airport Express 2 then to AKM DAC. It’s identical to a CD.
There is no technical evidence that a component streamer is any different. Bits are bits. The DAC is what matters. Past that, the amp, speakers, and room acoustics are all considerably more important. Proceeding all of this, the recording engineering and mastering matter more too.

Best scenario to let the streamer "grab" the music files from your network or from your streaming service of choice... while your mobile device acts as a remote control.

With EverSolo DMP-A6 streamer, I find the very best quality result is selecting music direct from the streamers screen, rather than the phone app. How to describe sound difference? Streaming direct from streamer as described, it sound like you are listening to a CD. For years I used my computer to a dac, then ophone to dac via wifi. The sound the the streamer just sounds clearer, more defined, bigger. Most importantly, because there is no compression using, say, Qobuz this way, the sound projects far better into the room, ie you will feel more surrounded by the music rather than separated from it. Hope this helps.

Or that we need a $5000 streamer, $5000 amp and $5000 speakers to give us a 10% sound improvement... I'll stick with Cheapaudioman...
