Man, I love 8-N’s!!!!! My ‘49 sat for 13 years- the last 5 outside. Took new plugs, wires, points, condenser, and carb. Went ahead and converted it to 12 volts. She purrs like a kitten. They’re almost indestructible. Love the sound of the motor runnin👍 good video- have fun!🇺🇸❤️

Yesterday’s Tractors and The N Tractor Club are two great sources of parts, manuals and information.

My dad had one of those completely restored. He used it and even drove it in a parade.

Before parting it out.. try to sell it whole it runs and drives and who ever buys it may not mind to finish fixing it up the rest of the way.. And there maybe someone maybe looking for a restoration project

Luckily I was able to sell this tractor to a father and his son who were going to go through it and make it nice again. Im always glad to see machines fixed up instead of torn down and parted out

Nice video! Be sure to keep an eye on the oil level and color. Looks to me you have a blown head gasket. The radiator bubbling like that is a sign of a blown gasket. I love these older tractors

Looks like you have to split it anyway so you can fix the clutch so taking a peek inside to check your engine condition will only just cost a few gaskets.
But if you don’t want to split it just yet you could take the whole steering boss off and then you can see inside the bell housing and you can see what is going on with the clutch.
I had an 8N and it had blow by so I drained the oil and cleaned out the filter canister and put # 50 weight oil into it and it didn’t take all the blow by away but it really improved it and it bought me enough time to save up enough money to completely over haul the engine but if it gets cold you need to warm up the oil before you start it I use a dip stick heater and a 200 watt magnetic heater on the oil pan!
The tractor you have is well worth fixing because it is a side distributor and it has had the proof meter at one time and it has the up graded steering system and you will see when you open it up that it has the bigger gears on the oil pump.
There’s a few more upgrades but my point is it is well worth restoring.
Lots of parts available at Dennis Carpenter and you can order a catalogue but another thing you might want to get a I&T shop manual it has all the clearance’s for your valve gap etc.
Well have fun and keep that old iron running 😀

it ill be fine. get a roll of duck tape some bailing wire and a big wad of bubble gum. in all reality. if its got good compression and no oil in radiator it might run for years with a carb cleaning and good ignition. ii'm of the belief to put electronic ignitions in these old tractors and they go go go.

at least you seem to know what your doing, not like some of the hacks here on RUclips with 30000, 70000 or more subscribers that dont have a clue what they are doing and are giving poor, bad and sometimes dangerous advice.

This was painful to watch. Locked up and you threw gas in the tank instead of oil in the cylinders 🤦‍♂️
