cute fact: whenever Inosuke feels overwhelmed he grounds himself by holding Tanjiro or his clothes.
Saw that in season 1 episode 25 or 26 i think
I always was a fan of how different yet similar the boys relationship with Tengen was compared to Rengoku.
Inosuke has a heightened sense of touch. Having a lot of clothes makes him uncomfortable and blocks the air vibration he uses to feel his surroundings .
Yoshiwara (this “entertainment” district) and two other entertainment districts in other big cities were created early in the Edo Period (1600s) to try to control the rising merchant class. Girls could be sold to the brothels by their parents (like how Kanao almost got sold off in episode 25), and the transaction was like a money loan. The girls may not necessarily become prostitutes, as some were part of the support staff. If they could pay off the entire amount of their “debts,” then they could go free. The lucky ones could have their debts paid off by a customer. A courtesan is a high level prostitute. An Oiran is at the top, treated like a superstar, and they may not necessarily have sex with their customer. Prospective Oiran were chosen while still young, and usually served as Kamuro, the young attendants of existing Oiran. They learned their craft from the Oiran, such as dance, music, poetry, conversation, etc.
The “ashi” from “ashinuke” means “foot,” and “nuke” means “leave/slip out/slip away/without.” So, it was a term to mean run away without paying off one’s debts.
Some of the translations in Demon Slayer could be better. They shouldn’t have said, “bride,” because in Japanese, he straight off says “wife/wives,” which lead to your confusion. But then again, maybe they translated it that way to make Zenitsu’s misunderstandings to be more plausible.
5:25 pretty sure only inoskue and tanjiro are unfamiliar with cities. I think Zenitsu is familiar tho. He was the only one that knew what a train was.

I forgot where it was explained (I think it was one of the early intros), but the breathing techniques increase blood flow and oxygenation which is what allows them to be as powerful as demons. The veins increase in size to accommodate the extra blood movement.

Courtesan (who also existed in Europe), in the simplest term, are bougie prostitutes. But to be fair, they're more than that in training and expectations. From a young age they're taught the fine arts (calligraphy, folk dance, playing instruments) and the art of flirting and socialization (because different men are interested in different conversational topics, they're trained to read the room quickly and keep the men interested conversationally).
To bed with a courtesan, one must first visit them a few times (so the house they work for gets rich rich) and it's ultimately greenlighted if the courtesan consents. Many rich men fall in love with courtesans because marriages back then weren't love-based and their wives were arrange-married to them to strengthen family alliances and to breed children. So these men might take courtesans away to be their concubines.
Top courtesans bring in a lot of money for the brothels they work for. But when they were first brought in as young girls, the cost of food, boarding, training become debt so they can't just "retire", run away, or go work for another brothel. To disappear without paying off that debt is ashinuke.
We have to try not to view courtesans through a strictly 2022 western lens. For girls born into poverty but blessed with looks in 1910s Japanese society, this was one of the best paths for upward social mobility. The top ones weren’t shamed either for what they did, look at the crowd admiring the oiran parading through the streets. But realistically, not all recruits make it to the top. The plain looking ones may be purchased by the house but used primarily for domestic duties (cleaning, cooking). There’s also high end brothels and ones in the ghetto parts of town, the latter functions more like traditional brothels.

Tengen is the FASTEST HASHIRA. Just know that for now
fastest running hashira (without using any breathing technique) . Fastest hashira(overall) is shinobu kocho.
@cheese shinobu,gyomei,sanemi,giyuu and obanai supasses tengen in terms of speed and reflexes after their respective fights.
@cheese bro if you have understand how speed is define in demon slayer.
For example,Zenitsu is slowest among the trio(between tanjiro,him and inosuke) in simple running whereas Zenitsu is the fastest among the trio when he uses his thunder breathing.
So basically thunder breathing technique increase his speed significantly .
Like wise rengoku was able to travel one station to another station in few mins while using his breathing technique.(flame breathing).
So breathing technique help the slayer to go faster than normal running.
But since sound breathing is an incomplete breathing derivative of thunder breathing and its main function is to mimic the fireworks sound, so i think the other hashira were faster than tengen when they use the breathing technique.
Like both Gyomei and sanemi were able to match kokushibo speed and his attacks even though at times they were not even marked and surely kokushibo speed is way faster than gyutaro which again proof in a way that these hashiras were faster than tengen even without mark just by using the breathing technique.
Even shinobu was using insect breathing when she outrun douma which again prove than
Sound breathing is an incomplete breathing technique and is not suitable to increase speed.
So in normal running condition(without using breathing technique)
Tengen is the fastest
and with breathing technique he is Tengen is 7th or 8th fastest hashira.

Also sanemi is most experience demon slayer in the corps as he was killing since his childhood starting from his mother.
Whereas tengen joined the when he was 18/19 and currently his age is 23 which gives him 5 yrs of demon killing experience whereas sanemi has been killing demon since his childhood(11-12 yrs) and his current age is 21 years which give him 9 -10 yrs of experience.

A little background on the Oiran (if needed. If not, please ignore my comment. 😅) The Oiran are high-ranking courtesans. They can actively choose clients and the highest ranking Oiran (the Tayū) can even refuse clients. They go through an intensive training in the traditional arts (singing, poetry, dancing, playing instruments) and are expected to have the intelligence and etiquette to converse with clients who are typically in the nobility. The cost of spending an evening with an Oiran is the equivalent of a shop assistant’s annual salary, so regular people can’t request an Oiran. Also, they are not considered the same as “prostitutes” although an interaction with a client may result in sexual activities. At present, that’s not done anymore (there are still Oiran in Kyoto and you can still see those parades) and Oirans are requested only for their entertainment skills in music, dancing and conversation. It’s very exclusive and you can’t just walk in to the Oiran houses now. You need to be verified and introduced by a trusted client. So being accepted as a Kamuro or assistant to an Oiran is an honor, because you’d be educated to later be an Oiran and even take over a prestigious Oiran’s name (stage name, basically.) In reality, those three nuts wouldn’t have been accepted looking like that. 😂

when prostitution was allowed and it was were many ended up because of debt etc - but so to not create problems/fights with "classic" prostitutes the courtesans had to do there buisness inside
so yes it is the same kind of work but calling them prostitutes would be actually wrong when I remember what I read once correct and it was accurate...
