  • Randy Baldwin was drafted into the Army in 1969, trained as an infantryman and spent most of 1970 in Vietnam. Assigned to A Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, he was with that company through most of the campaign around Fire Support Base Ripcord. This part of the interview takes him through induction and training and the first part of his Vietnam tour.
    Note: Mr. Baldwin corrected himself on one point after the interview. When his company launched the first effort to establish the Ripcord base in March 1970, he was in the rear at demolition school, and listened to the whole thing on the radio, but was not there in person.
