I liked 1 and 4. When I play piano in church I typically use 1 to keep the congregation close to the hymn but If there is an organ I play 4 for the same reason. I try to make it easier for them to participate in the hymn.
Can you do a Southern Gospel version of When we all get to heaven. I don’t know if you do other style like Praise and worship songs? I’d love to have were going up to high places and Who’s Report do you believe. Both are by Ron Kenoly. There on RUclips.
What I liked most was your ability and acuity to so clearly play each example and illustrate your point (musically) to those of us who're just audience- not players. Thanks for sharing.
Well played. ❤ You nailed all the four versions. 👌🏾👌🏾 But do you use a sustain pedal while playing using the organ tone in order to mimic the legato effect? Do you use one to stress the connectedness between notes while playing using the organ tones on a keyboard?
It’s been so long, I forgot what I did in this video, haha! But I am aware that when you play an actual organ you need to create legato from your fingers. Honestly, I think I do tend to use the pedal on keyboards in order to sustain the organ sound… after all, I do not have the luxury of playing in a large cathedral with natural reverb :)
How did you learn the inspirational and gospel styles? I learning to play congregational style for a book called hymnproviser but after that Id like to play in a more modern way.
To me it comes naturally, but I do teach this skill to my students. The best way is to increase exposure. Play a lot of written-out arrangements and analyze the score. What did the arranger do that's enhanced what it was in the hymnal? Chord substitutions? Syncopations? LH arpeggios? Melody in octaves? Different ranges on the piano? Grace notes? This practice is called score analysis. Then, once you've analyzed enough scores you develop a model for each genre. Then when you arrange you own music, you apply the same models. Hope this helps! I'd be happy to discuss more if you're considering lessons or online courses 👉 raluca@ralucabojor.com
It's a journey!! :) I have some great online courses on my website for learning to play hymns without sheet music! You can check out the content here: www.ralucabojor.com/pianobrains
Was the last version on the same keyboard or a separate organ? Either way very beautiful! I'm staying subscribed to your channel. The organist visited for new members Sunday at our church. Now please understand I'm only asking because I like to check out churches online and it's the next best thing you can do if you can't make it to one. I'm subscribed to a Methodist church "all the way in India!" But which church do you attend so I can check it out online? And only for that reason. I asked about the hymnals last time only because some hymnals have different hymns than others I like variety. For example, Trust and obey/when we walk with the Lord is not in the Presbyterian hymnal called Glory to God or the Lutheran Service Book, but it is found in the Trinity Hymnal and United Methodist Hymnal, as well as the Celebration Hymnal and several Baptist hymnals. The best hymnals in my opinion are those that have both the older hymns like "Holy Holy Holy" and "The Church's One Foundation," as well as the more gospel style ones like "How Great Thou Art" and "Blessed Assurance."

Sometimes yes! Thank you for listening! 😊

I was playing all of these versions on the same keyboard :) Yamaha has good sounds.
What is this style people call gospel?
"Gospel" style is a subgenre of jazz/blues.
Not her playing a octave with her thumb and ring finger. 😵💫
What's wrong with that? 😅
@@RalucaBojor It’s super impressive. Are you kidding me 🙆🏾♂️. Your reach is amazing.
