I hope you can donate to me your old camera even your broke camera... Thank you so much sir. im from philippines
My hack: write the script then open it on your phone, screen record while scrolling down slowly. Replay the video right next to the camera. Free teleprompter!!
Scripts are essential. For those that don’t do well with outlines or “bullets”, consider using a “mind-map”. This is the technique where you write down thoughts as they come to you and then link them together. Great video and greatly appreciated.
@@HillCountryPrepper I want to say that I agree to paper and pencils very hard. Writing stuff gets it into your brain WAY faster and more solid than a text document IMO.
I'm really bad with free styling in front of the camera, I've always been a nervous person when it comes to speaking, but pretty good with writing scripts and okish at reading them. One tip I learned to speed up editing is to clap loudly when you start a line, if you mess up, clap again. When you successfully say a line, clap twice. During editing, these claps will show up as spikes in the waveform. Then when editing, start from the end and work backwards. Anywhere you see a clap followed by a double clap you'll know that that is a good take. If you're really meticulous about it, you can cut out all the bad lines without having to play through the video at all-the waveform alone will be enough. I did it in my last video. I wasn't that meticulous about it but it still saved me a lot of time and I plan to use it in the future. Good luck everybody! ❤❤❤
I've only recently found an unintended benefit of having a script, since, I've only just started using them. I have noisy tenants sharing the house I rent a room in. Their loudness often gets in the way of my efforts to record the audio for my tutorials. So, when I've worked the script up to satisfaction. I just prepare all the assets in the editing software I will need for the video (I often use simple animations) at the times I can't record due to the other tenants' loud talking/screaming/arguing. Then, when they've got it off their chests and have quietened down, I record the audio in short sections ( just in case they start again). It works perfectly because I put my ideas alongside the script, and then, when it's too noisy to record, I just check for the ideas I need put into the video; and I just put my earphones in and play white noise, which cuts out most of the voices or listen to music, and just edit away; scripting has helped save my sanity and prevents me getting annoyed because mostly I'm not disturbed while trying to create content. Totally unintended benefit but glad it worked out that way.
This video was so helpful, after I swapped from a fully written script to just bullet points, I finally like how natural the speaking feels and how it sounds at the end. Also a thing that helped me a lot is to place some kind of figure in front of me while speaking, that way I can act like I am in a conversation with someone. That makes the sound recording sound even more natural.
When speaking on stage or at events, I always write my first paragraph exactly and the last one exactly. I use bullet points for the content part. That way, if I get nervous at the start, I have the script to fall back on. If I get lost toward the end, I have the landing written down! It's funny though. No matter how many hundreds of times I've been in front of a crowd, I still get nervous looking at a camera!
@@JaneNewAuthor Interesting to know it translates to comedy as well. But if I think back, even the pros seem to be a little rehearsed on the first joke.
What helps, for me at least, is verbally reading the script out loud as I’m writing it. Read it a couple of times and figure out how you want to say it. Let your personality come through. Don’t just read the words, say the words like you are talking to a friend. That helps me a lot. With that said, I’m in the process of converting to bullet point style as I feel confident enough to do it that way. Plus memorizing a script is part of the process I dislike the most.
For me, scripting is essential. I deal with fairly sensitive issues of international politics where precise wording is essential. Also, I have lots of historical facts and data. Scripting is by far the longest part of the process. But I do have a formula that works for me. This gives my videos a structure that helps a lot and have become a bit quicker. But the actual research element of my videos takes time and loads of research. There’s just no getting around quality!
@@swoosh3684 It depends. Usually a couple of days work goes into them. It depends how well I know the subject in advance. I also try to have a few scripts ticked away in case I have a lot of other things going on. These tend to be historical topics that don’t become outdated.
I like that you encourage using word-for-word at the beginning because not everyone is able to do otherwise and also appreciate your advice of building confidence by using one bullet point with the rest word-for-word, very good idea! Thank you!
I just finished writing a script for a RUclips video idea. I combine both. When I get an idea, I write bullet points and develop it, then before filming I go through the note to remember what I want the video to be like. Thank you for the tips.

Literally sitting on my desk now, ready to do some research on my content aNd write a script (or more so bullet point) thereafter. Brand new vlogger here! Thanks Think Media ✨
Script writing is so important for guiding the flow of your content idea. I love it cos I use it as a reminder on what I need to do or say in order to engage or ensure my audience understand what I'm trying to pass across.
Reading bullet points before filming is so important. My best videos are when I plan out my video with a script because it helps me structure my videos, improve my watch time, and increase my subs!!! I highly recommend scripting and these were great tips. YOU HAVE TO ASK THEM to do a CALL TO ACTION. You can also incorporate fun ways to get your audience to comment and like by asking them a question and having the response be that action.
Nolan, I appreciate your sharing these great insights! I'm writing out a script for an educational/observational video on mental health topics, and since it's my first one, I've been concerned about how I can remember what I plan say (when I'm in front of the camera). Your video not only affirmed what I was thinking about bullet points vs. line-line memorization, but it reminded me about the importance of including a hook and call to action. I look forward to watching your other videos!
I just wanted to tell you that I know that you are doing your best with the little you have. I hope your channel blows up and you get exactly what you pray for. Stay blessed.
For me a script definitely helps but as soon as I start recording I start stuttering and messing things up, sometimes it works for me if I just freestyle the whole thing through haha :)
I actually relate to that. Scripts never work for me, but I still write them to have a general idea for what I'm going to say. Hey, a tip if you stutter a lot- memorize the first line of what you're about to say (Works best with an open-ended question) and then your mind goes in the flow so good! You can see Sean Cannell do that when he keeps asking himself questions like "Why do I say that? Because-". Am I making sense? I just loving replying to people in Think Media, I get like 2-3 subs every video they post 😂, I'm like a parasite.
One thing I've realized (I started making a few videos and getting ready to actually put some out) is that BEFORE you actually do this there's this... misconception? I think? That you need to do this all perfectly, in one take. When in reality, you have the ability to cut up your footage in bite sized portions through editing and you can redo as many parts of the video as you feel you need to. The reality of it is much more forgiving than the preconception.
One way bullet points could work better for beginners is to film a section of bullet points each and edit the videos into one video later. You can then do a few takes and choose the best one. Plus your not pressured to finish it all in one long take and trying to edit a long video.
This year I got hit by the pandemic’s economic effects and got my work hours reduced but in less than 4 years I plan to be a self made millionaire. No longer will I update my resume. Now I am working on a business plan!!
This is THE BEST video I've seen on youtube scripting (and I've seen so many of them!). Thank you so much, I'm sure my workflow will improve a lot now!
At first i would just freestyle when making my videos, but then i ended up stuttering too many times and it was very unprofessional. When i started scripting for my videos, things got better, i stuttered less but i ended up sounding less enthusiastic. The bullet points sound best for me moving forward. Once again. Thanks Think Media!
This was literally the video I was looking for. I am pretty new to youtube (started in april #covid) and I sit at around 76 subscribers I believe. I am really trying to make a community by doing videography/filmmaking tips and tutorials so if that interest ANYBODY who happens to read this I would love to have you be a part of the OG channel group. Hopefully one day I'll be making tutorials on the big stage like you guys :)
Love this video. I always assumed I could just sit there and freestyle the whole thing, how wrong I was (or am)! I've been writing down one small sentence to describe my video and assuming because I know what I want to talk about it'll come out in a sensible, intelligent and logical way. That definitely hasn't been happening, being more disciplined with a script looks like it'll become essential for me as I struggle to get off the starting blocks. Thanks!
I've never used a script before and as a result, I do find that the point of my message is sometimes lost. The quote "Fail to prepare is preparing to fail" really springs to mind!
I am seeing myself viewing this video all over and over again until I can do bullet points speaking, and still watching this ...over and over again after that. Such great content!
Never done a script. I normally map it in my head or tell the story in my head while filming and freestyle since I mostly do voice overs. I have done a few sit down videos. All of them freestyle. But, I will be trying a script from now on. Very informative video. I also learnt a lot from the comments.
This has been such a helpful video! I am having trouble keeping people watching over 2 minutes and 30 seconds! It's pretty consistent throughout each video! I am trying my hardest to keep people interested, maybe I need to take less pauses when talking
Wow!!!🙇 This video has answered 70% of the challenges and objections I have with getting started with RUclips. The tips you shared will definitely go a long way in helping me move from the thinking and planning stage to execution. Thanks a mill👍👏
Even though I haven't been watching this channel for long it has helped me a lot with all the advice so I feel a bit more confident when pressing the recored button
Thanks again for these videos, they are super useful and are really helping growing my channel, I have grown from about 250 subs to 367 in 28 days so, some of my best growth. These tips have helped me to grow my channel and to get some momentum. I use a parrot teleprompter to help with my bullet points.
which teleprompter app are you using, have you heard about ppt-mirror.com app? its an app that mirror-flips Powerpoint slides for iPads, Tablet and smartphones to be used in a teleprompter, this helps to record videos using your existing slides so that you don't need to memorize the script also doesn't force you to read word for word... which leads speech and videos to more natural
I teach English on my channel so I have to be very careful with my language. I find that very detailed bullet points work well for me especially when talking about grammar. I don't want to confuse anybody.
Pro of writing your script word for word: when you want to add subtitles you only have to use a copy/paste and it's perfect. Also if you use the autotranslate function to generate subtitles translations, it works much better (not perfect though) than using the flawed auto generated original subtitles. For instance, my English video's subtitles are always translated to French. When I relied on autodetect to generate English subtitles, they were OK but not perfect. After using auto translate on those English subtitles, the French ones were really bad. Since I use my scripts to generate the English subtitles, the automatic translation towards French works so much better, only needing a handful of corrections.
I do voice over so i prefer word for word, since I can pronounced the words appropriately, less time consume while recording, then I know where to stop and where to peak! Soon, If grace with blessings having camera and lighting, I will do bullets or paraphrase so I will not relay on the script. ♥️♥️
I believe every voiceover should be scripted to add a certain level of intentionality to it. Since most of them are time-based and you need to communicate a specific message in a specific time.
Thanks for this video. I was desperately looking for a video to understand whether I need to memorise the script verbatim or use bullet points. This video just nailed it. I am confident that as beginner I will start with the word for word technique but also use bullet points for a chunk of the script until I can perfect the technique and use only bullet points 😊
I'm glad I bumped into this video and channel. Really giving me the boost and tools to start, been putting it off for so many years but no more. Thanks, guys ❤
I really appreciate this video because it is good to know there is a way to do it... This is actually what I do. I do paper crafting or scrapbooking. And what I do is I have an intro and an outro.... In between I "freestyle".... I still have sooo much to learn though. Thanks!!!!!
NolanMolt/ThinkMedia your video is very informative I got a lot from watching it, and by watching think media I was able to make my own channel. Thank you so much Think Media Team!😊
This Video Is sooo Helpful Thanks! I’m Just greatful our School Provides Us Tasks To memorize Huge Bulk of Pharagarphs Each Year. I used to hate doing It But Now I’m Glad I have Better memory on Memorizing Paraghraps never knew It would be Usefull till now.
I love the "midway CTA/tease" idea for increased retention! And if you're trying out the freestyle format for the first time, I feel like this is a good way to course correct if you start getting off track a bit.
this is helpful as something to think about. I created a channel almost a year ago and haven't done much of anything with it. I have done a lot of public speaking in front of fairly large groups in my professional career, and was arrogant enough to think that making youtube vids would be a breeze. When I speak in public, i either completely wing it or if it's a larger presentation I go with bullet points, depending on the circumstances. But one thing I found when I made a couple of youtube vids was that, something about knowing I'm talking to a camera in my home freaks me out and I lose my train of thought and sound like a freaking idiot. I honestly didn't expect that, because I am completely comfortable talking to a room full of actual people. I still think the best approach for me with youtube vids is bullet points rather than trying to memorize an entire script, because I see that as inauthentic. But it's harder than I expected to become comfortable with the notion that I'm talking to no one but my webcam. I guess it just takes practice, like anything else.
Bullet points is the way to go. As someone who reviews the Mercedes brand, memorizing word for word isn’t ideal. Over time, I’ve learnt how to structure the video in review sections - exterior, interior, sound check and drive (if possible) in that order. Sometimes, it’s not easy since I can have a unique $200k car for 30 minutes only. I’m improving though with bullet points.
This video was so helpful when writing ideas down for my next RUclips video! I had alot of content and was unsure how to structure it, but the tips and advice in this video helped me to narrow down my points. It also helped because I was struggling to write an introduction! Thank you :))))
Hi Nolan, Thank you for the review, What do you think about using PowerPoint in a teleprompter with bullet points to lead you while you speak so that you maintain eye contact and speak confidently with the audience without reading a script.
I just wrote a script for my next video- going to see how that works. It felt better writing it all down- at least the concepts. The heart of the content is bullet points or sentences I want - I want it to flow naturally. I already do acting so I can memorize things word for word but I want both to be separate, if that makes sense.
Thank you for making such a useful video. Freestyling for me takes ages to get it right. Took me a hour to get a video right. I will for sure script it . Again thank you

You so lucky you can do it!
@@SeriousGuy That's actually really helpfull, thank you. I will do that in the future! :)

Nolan molt is such a great teacher!! I cannot believe I noticed that today. GREAT JOB NOLAN!!!
This year I got hit by the pandemic’s economic effects and got my work hours reduced but in less than 4 years I plan to be a self made millionaire. No longer will I update my resume. Now I am working on a business plan!!
Success is awaiting you 👌
How is it going?

Cant wait to implement all this info in 2021.Have so many ideas I just need to start!
High value Nolan! Thanks!
Thank you!!
*AMAZING Video!* Your Video Topics Are Always INTERESTING & VIDEOS Are HELPFUL For NEW RUclipsrs! 🔥
Needed this! I am just starting out with RUclips and think scripts definitely help in the beginning, yes!
Thanks!
Exactly what I've been going through with my channel and videos I produce. Time to start typing out scripts!!

So crazy cus I’m working on my script literally as you’re reading this. Thanks TM, you guys content seems to always be on time!
Great timing! Realizing how badly I need to focus on my script. Days of shooting from the hip in front of the camera are over! Great info. Thanks!
Awesome, glad this helps!
I've never used a script before and as a result, I do find that the point of my message is sometimes lost. The quote "Fail to prepare is preparing to fail" really springs to mind!
I was literally starting to write my first ever script for my first video when I saw this video
Amazing congrats on writing your first script!
Good luck!!!

Me too😅
Thank you, step by step I learn more from you everyday preparing product promo's, Bravo, Think Media!
Does anyone else like the video before it even loads cause you already know it’s going to be good
I am seeing myself viewing this video all over and over again until I can do bullet points speaking, and still watching this ...over and over again after that. Such great content!
You guys are awesome. Thank you!
Never done a script. I normally map it in my head or tell the story in my head while filming and freestyle since I mostly do voice overs. I have done a few sit down videos. All of them freestyle. But, I will be trying a script from now on. Very informative video. I also learnt a lot from the comments.
Same here dear ,I swear this is really helping
Thank you so much! This is very helpful. We all know it, but sometimes reminder works! Appreciate your help. Think Media is awesome 👌
Agreed 👍
We will all be successful in RUclips. Just keep believing and keep pushing guys. The great days are coming🥰
Love it I receive it !
you all are helping the new RUclipsrs.keep it up
Thanks again for these videos, they are super useful and are really helping growing my channel, I have grown from about 250 subs to 367 in 28 days so, some of my best growth. These tips have helped me to grow my channel and to get some momentum. I use a parrot teleprompter to help with my bullet points.
Woww that awesome!!!!
@@ofircohen1675 Thank you ;-)
nice. i would love those numbers too
which teleprompter app are you using, have you heard about ppt-mirror.com app? its an app that mirror-flips Powerpoint slides for iPads, Tablet and smartphones to be used in a teleprompter, this helps to record videos using your existing slides so that you don't need to memorize the script also doesn't force you to read word for word... which leads speech and videos to more natural
@@wilsonmgadza8058 why not just index card below your eyes so you just glance down from time to time
I am currently in the process of scripting my next video ,
Thank you very much for this
I teach English on my channel so I have to be very careful with my language. I find that very detailed bullet points work well for me especially when talking about grammar. I don't want to confuse anybody.
You're so right! I'm not a native English speaker, so I feel the same....
@@ofircohen1675 Massive respect for everyone creating content in a second language!
@@englishwithmrd Thanks you so much!!! 😃
Just got done writing on " weight loss journey" last week and I wish I got this video earlier! Thank you for this!!
That was clutch Nolan! That CTA was legit. Didn’t even think about it until you got to the end! Good work!
Thank you!! Hope you enjoyed!

Thanks so much for this great advise Think Media .....and Nolan of course!!!!!
Happy to help!
Thanks
I'm glad I bumped into this video and channel. Really giving me the boost and tools to start, been putting it off for so many years but no more.
Thanks, guys ❤
I would love to start free-styling, and save myself so much time! 👍🏻
Just speak from experience! You have the knowledge, just speak it!
Wouldn't that be GOALS
I really appreciate this video because it is good to know there is a way to do it... This is actually what I do. I do paper crafting or scrapbooking. And what I do is I have an intro and an outro.... In between I "freestyle".... I still have sooo much to learn though. Thanks!!!!!
Who else loves Think Media?? 💜
NolanMolt/ThinkMedia your video is very informative I got a lot from watching it, and by watching think media I was able to make my own channel. Thank you so much Think Media Team!😊
Yay!! Congrats. Best of luck!! You got this!
Nolan Molt Wow!!!😱 You just made my day! I was not even expecting that you will respond on my comment! Thank you!😊
After watching hundreds of videos from this channel I finally started and I need someone to review my channel if am even on d right track
Good tips I am not a naturally speaker so writing it down makes it all easier! Good luck to everyone starting out or working on their channel!
This video was simple, easy to follow, and extremely helpful. Now time to go implement! Thank you for putting this together.
this is helpful as something to think about.
Awesome video. Super strong points. I should watch this video everyday for a year
I like the color of your background. Do you have recommendations on changing ambiance and mood for filming?
I hope he does because I’m trying to grow lol
Buy a RGB bulb...I use syska RGB bulb in which the colors can be controlled via smart phone, it costed me 650 INR, which is like 9 dollars
I like this because the more everyone else's videos sound formulated and reek of sameness, the more mine will stand out!
Keep up the good work.
Hi Nolan,
Thank you for the review, What do you think about using PowerPoint in a teleprompter with bullet points to lead you while you speak so that you maintain eye contact and speak confidently with the audience without reading a script.
Thank you for making this video, it is super helpful for those of us just starting our youtube journey!
I just wrote a script for my next video- going to see how that works. It felt better writing it all down- at least the concepts. The heart of the content is bullet points or sentences I want - I want it to flow naturally. I already do acting so I can memorize things word for word but I want both to be separate, if that makes sense.
Awesome, let us know how it goes!!
Thank you for making such a useful video. Freestyling for me takes ages to get it right. Took me a hour to get a video right. I will for sure script it . Again thank you
I feel like my best videos are scripted word for word, then in the middle I freestyle if I feel the inspiration, then return back to the script.
Nice!
This was such a great video. Thank you for being genuine and showing us a real example!
I can’t imagine reading word for word I feel like the point of youtube is that it’s natural
That's really not how the majority of youtube videos are but ok
Very informative video. I'm working on improving my script. I'm going to try this. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day.👍
I just need to know where I can buy one of those filmmaker shirts Nolan is wearing
as a new content creator this was super helpful. really nice to see your script and how you write it.
