For those who don't remember or are too young to know, the network wanted to keep Seinfeld going for at least one more season, and at the time offered an unheard of amount of money per episode, however Jerry was adamant that he was done with the show and that he was sure one more season would be overstaying its welcome.
Not only that, but there was a lot of buzz when it became clear that Seinfeld would not be continuing, that one of the other three main characters would get a spin-off, think Kramer was the one most people thought would get his own show. However, Jerry insisted the final episode be hard-written so that story-wise none of the characters would be available for one year (since they were all in jail). I believe when it came out it was considered a stupid way to end the series.
I still hate the way they ended the show.

I remember watching this fight right before the final episode of “Seinfeld” aired for the first time. It was a great precursor to the end of an era.

I miss this show
It’s been so long I can’t remember. But was there a debate about which sit com was more popular while they were both on the air? Because home improvement as far as I know has never been held in the same regard as Seinfeld, which is still widely considered one of the best sitcoms of all time.
Home improvement always just seemed like a flavor of the month to me. But perhaps I’m misremembering
It lasted quite a while and did some new things, but I think Seinfeld really changed up the formula and is more...quotable/meme-able since even now people make jokes and references to it.
