"Hello, beautiful. So you gonna tell us her name Woolie?" "MS. ODST, our new LP. So check your mouths, find your chairs, and get set for a good playthrough." Feet First into Facts: Relative to the Halo timeline, ODST starts right after the level Metropolis from Halo 2. If you look close In Amber Clad can be seen barely catching up to The Prophet of Regret's carrier just like in the cutscene from that game. The two new weapons in this game (The Silenced SMG and the Silenced Pistol) are, contrary to their name, not functionally silenced (you are super wrong V). They are distinct from their unsilenced Halo 2 counterparts; SMG has a better accuracy model and lower recoil, while the pistol is a carbon copy of the Halo 2 version except it has a multiplied critical hit model and slightly more accuracy. Crazy how such small changes improved the worst gun in the series into such a memorable model. Speaking of weapon sandbox changes, several weapons have been removed entirely including Energy Sword, Blue Plasma Rifle, and most importantly the Battle Rifle. While not explicitly stated in any ViDocs, it is widly argued that it was removed to allow for the new pistol to shine. Also, c'mon. Spook=Spy.
I think the plasma rifle in this game is functionally the standard blue one, just with a Brute paint job. It made me overcautious with burst length for awhile.
As you mentioned, I think the more notable thing that took the Halo 2 pistol from bad to great is just... the battle rifle doesn't exist in ODST. Without it, you end up falling back to the pistol as a stand in. If the battle rifle were available I'd never take a pistol over it. What strikes me as interesting is how despite the battle rifle being removed, the carbine quite obviously was not. I assume the lower rarity of the carbine is meant to be a stand in for its benefits over the pistol, but I recall several instances where you have ammo for it in abundance. It's a shame the silenced SMG never got a more significant buff. Even more accurate its generally not worth using over other options.

Ah Woolie... keeping night vision on during the day for the sake of visibility... It'll never not be entertaining to watch him try to turn niche mechanics designed with specific purposes into something they aren't. If a video game mechanic is a square, Woolie will find a round whole to try to shove it into. Bonus points if he makes a comment about "tech" or something while doing it.
I really wanna see Woolie react to all the trailers for ODST bc they were hype af. This is possibly one of my favourite games, entirely because of nostalgia. Plus Nathan Fillion is a treasure and he is great.
Youre probably done the playthrough by now, but watch out for flashing lights and stuff if you guys want to find a couple terminals. The alarms, notice warnings, traffic devices malfunctiioning and flashing lights are supposed to clue you into secrets nearby Getting the terminals unlocks weapon caches and vehicles so its very worth getting at least a few
Okay, I gotta get into it with the wall markings. Internet gamer sleuths have concluded that devs intentionally put certain marking in specific places, but no one in all these years has figured out what they mean. They all have the three pronged cross design with symbols between each prong EXCEPT for certain symbols found around corpses that Woolie will certainly find later. Just goes to show that good easter eggs aren't dead if they're still able to hold over the imagination and curiosity of players, what, eleven years later? I think it greatly enhances the mood of a game which already has incredible detective noire atmosphere.
Valid. It’s certainly my favorite in terms of the feel of being an this kind of pseudo rpg-FPS as a lone foot soldier wandering around a city full of secrets. I would love to play more games with this type of gameplay.
The Blank Panel no other game has even attempted this fps detective story bullshit. Even bungie didn’t really go fully into the idea. I fucking love this game
Terry R. Bc it’s a rare franchise that just improves on itself (until 4 and 5) and 4s campaign is still pretty fun especially after seeing what they did to 5, and if you go into all the extra outside the game story stuff the story is pretty good too, just most of that isn’t shown in the cutscenes in game
@20:30 there is a poster on the wall with a picture of Earth, with the caption "FOR HER". In the original Xbox 360 retail version of ODST the cation read "DESTINY AWAITS", a reference to the game Destiny, which Bungie was working on at the time. Microsoft changed it in the MCC release, but it is unaltered in the 360 version.
Whe. I first got a 360, odst was the first game i got for it,most all of memories of the 360 are from this game and the ad campains for both halo 3 and ODST.
Tbh this is the most hype I’ve had for woolie playing through these games, this one is definitely one of my favorites. Halo has always been known for its Atmosphere, and this game Switches it up in a whole new way, and cranks it up to a whole new level. ODST is haunting, moody, somber, and intense. And it shows in all its aspects, from its visuals, to its OST, and ESPECIALLY in the OST.
Halo 3 ODST is that one halo game you played back when, got half way through, enjoyed what you played, but didn't keep playing because you were younger and just wanted to play big spartan man John punches aliens and blows stuff up. But now that we are older, we can appreciate the change of pace and mood. I can't wait to get into this game and finally see it through to the end.
12:50 At this point in the story, The Master Chief is in route to Delta Halo. This game takes place on Oct 21, The In Amber Clad will not arrive at Delta Halo till Nov 2
He we go, time for the best Halo game! I'll always remember prowling the streets of New Mombasa as the Rookie. Soaking in that atmosphere and putting together what happened while he was unconscious. It's kind of a shame knowing how much this game's characters lift straight from Firefly (even the goddamn actors), but they're still a great fit for the Halo universe and provide the small-scale fights with a lot of texture that make them shine with character way more than anything Master Chief provided.
I love the somewhat spooky atmosphere in the streets at night. Just staring at the Mombasa skyline with the orange sky and heavy clouds is haunting to say the least.
I love that the countdown for the drop pod launch is the multiplayer countdown timer. Really neat detail to include the iconic sound in a different way. Not sure if V and Woolie noticed.
Cool little thing I just noticed after playing ODST again for the first time in years. At 6:52 you can see “In Amber Clad” rushing to make the slip-space jump near the mid to upper right of the cruiser .When I was younger I always thought it was weird that we didn’t see the ship making the jump but I guess I’m just a blind idiot for not seeing it all this time.
Haven’t watched yet, but I really hope they watch one of my favorite Halo ads at some point. “Desperate Measures” was super solid so I hope they check it out.
4:45 "What the hell kind of armor was she wearing?" FUN FACT: The armor Dare wears is called "Recon" a very rare and highly sought after armor within the Halo community introduced in Halo 3 where the only way to get it was to impress Bungie themselves and have them give it to you... ... Until ODST came out and they introduced the Vidmaster Challenges. A set of challenges introduced that takes place in both Halo 3 and ODST with 4 challenges in each game. Completing all 4 Challenges in both games would grant you the Recon Armor. Also in regards to the mention that ODSTs are right below Spartans in tier; there is a reference in ODST's Firefight there is a text description when you select Buck that says "If he were any tougher, he'd be a Spartan." Heh, wouldn't THAT be something? Random dudes becoming Spartans?

Wasn't there an easter egg where if you look REAL close to Regret's ship as its about to slipspace jump, you'll see In Amber Clad rushing to get close and jump with it?
40:43 I am saddened that neither of them notice or address the wacky physics bug.
Can't wait for V to gush over the intense sax action in this game, while Woolie is busy getting lost in the open streets.
This was my first Halo game, so it holds a special place in my heart.
It wasn’t my first but first one I owned myself when I got it with a 360 on Black Friday, great memories!
Really looking forward to woolies thoughts on this one ODST is probs my second "favorite" besides reach
seeing the unscs shady inner workings and a grounded perspective on things just makes it so much more intresting to me then chiefs storyline where he doesn't really interact with that side of the story till much later and by then its already shit
like the Covent space opera fight finishing is great but these games give you a actual view of what your fighting for besides saving the world again
Now you have to get a taste for freeform jazz...
I find it amusing how often Woolie activates night vision/light amplification in a daytime environment, making the screen blow out and enemies way harder to see at a distance.
Woolie and V keep mentioning CoD in these recent Halo playthroughs. Makes me wonder if Woolz would enjoy playing CoD4 and MW2.
All these games later and Woolie still treats the AR like it can kill from a million meters away. He’s not just blind; this is just sad.
ShinyAjax
I think at this point, the sooner you accept that Woolie is a dumbass, the better your life would be.
The MA5C is the greatest assault rifle in videogames, second only to the MA5B from the original Halo.
Thems the facts son. Get your nomenclature unfucked.
;)
Whats worse is that he has the audaciity to continue to lie like he was decent at other shooters, namely titanfall.
He's been playing these halo games for 40 hours now and he hasnt improved an iota.
14:52 "It's basically silenced so if you can pick off targets at a distance, they won't know you're there."
*Shoots a grunt from way downtown then all his buddies turn and start firing.*
I've always liked the ODST helmets but this game solidified them to be REQUIRED when possible!
Any experiencing earrape around 15:50?
Yes it scared me.
I'm fixing that, thanks for the report.
@@SoushinSen 👍
Oh god, they're gonna miss so much detail. ODST has the most subtlety of any Halo game and I kind of wish V had done some research beforehand.
Shouldn't have played this one co-op either, ruins the atmosphere that was SUPER deliberately made for solo lonely exploration
I really wanna see Woolie react to all the trailers for ODST bc they were hype af.
This is possibly one of my favourite games, entirely because of nostalgia. Plus Nathan Fillion is a treasure and he is great.
Used to spend hours patrolling New Mombasa. After all it was my first Halo experience. And what a great first time it was.
Remember, your weapons are suppressed, not silent! Enemies will still hear you if you fire close enough. Also, the SMG has zoom
What can I say, it was one hell of a game
I only got to play it finally with the MCC, and even I can admit with my years of missing the initial release that it's awesome.
*dooooooot doooooooooot doooooooooooooooot*
Nice one bro 👍
Youre probably done the playthrough by now, but watch out for flashing lights and stuff if you guys want to find a couple terminals. The alarms, notice warnings, traffic devices malfunctiioning and flashing lights are supposed to clue you into secrets nearby
Getting the terminals unlocks weapon caches and vehicles so its very worth getting at least a few
They last completed Micky's mission on stream and will be continuing next Wednesday, probably...
Finally, the best Halo game.
The best halo game that prooooooobably shoulda been an expansion but it’s fine it proved itself
I feel like we’ve been saying that about every game now.
19:40 New Mombasa is Danny the Street?
Where we dropping boys?
Feet first!
Feet first into hell trooper.
@@gorvarhadgarson5227 Into Hell!
I wouldnt mind another game as an odst member.
Seconded
“spook” is slang for a government agent.
ODST has the best soundtrack. It knew how to set the mood just right
Also the guy in yellow with the painted skull's voice actor is from something i'm familiar with but I can't place it.
12:50 At this point in the story, The Master Chief is in route to Delta Halo. This game takes place on Oct 21, The In Amber Clad will not arrive at Delta Halo till Nov 2
Might be my favorite Halo, so many memories..
15:50 What the HELL is with those freakish sounds?! Scared the shit out of me.
Way to kill the mood of the intro V
what does V not kill when he's on an LP
Suprised that V didn't point out that you can literally see the In Amber Clad fly over to the Carrier in the Opening drop
In Amber Clad, but yeah
@@ethicalcheeze1407 Came off watching Reach LP so Pillar was in my mind oops
He we go, time for the best Halo game!
I'll always remember prowling the streets of New Mombasa as the Rookie. Soaking in that atmosphere and putting together what happened while he was unconscious.
It's kind of a shame knowing how much this game's characters lift straight from Firefly (even the goddamn actors), but they're still a great fit for the Halo universe and provide the small-scale fights with a lot of texture that make them shine with character way more than anything Master Chief provided.
Before I learned it was an acronym (I was like, 7) I pronounced ODST as “Odd-ist”
It's been how long again? ODST is a very good game and music just as much if not more
I love the somewhat spooky atmosphere in the streets at night. Just staring at the Mombasa skyline with the orange sky and heavy clouds is haunting to say the least.
Pretty sure you can actually see IN Amber Clad there for a split-second.
My eyes are going to melt from Woolie's insistence on using the visor during the day.
I love that the countdown for the drop pod launch is the multiplayer countdown timer. Really neat detail to include the iconic sound in a different way. Not sure if V and Woolie noticed.
"A lot of bad things happened in Africa...
And then the covenant showed up!"
15:50 warning to headphone users holy shit
Just played this for the first time 2 days ago and I loved it. Such a good campaign. And the MUSIC holy crap the music is fantastic.
I've had the Super Intendant notification noise as my text tone for years. This LP is gonna make me think my phone's constantly going off.
If you want to find all the audiobooks. Follow the signs they will lead you right to them 95% of the time. The last one is found by following someone.
Haven’t watched yet, but I really hope they watch one of my favorite Halo ads at some point. “Desperate Measures” was super solid so I hope they check it out.
This is one of my favorite halo games Im glad you’ve played it
Fun Fact: At 6:49, if you look closely, you can see the In Amber Clad making the jump along with Regret's carrier.
Am I the only one who gets Final Fantasy vibes from the ost?
Also am I crazy or is Romeo voiced by pitch shifted Nolan North?
Yep that's him
Ya like jazz? Also, Metroid Prime, glad to hear that Woolie likes the series as well.
47:10 Yo V, why you gotta hit me like that? Shouting out my favorite cover like that right when I'm thinking about it.
ODST isnt just a good Halo soundtrack, its Marty O'Donnell's Magnum Opus, and the awards he got from it are very well deserved
So even though the two new weapons in ODST are canonically silenced, they are not silenced during gameplay. They function like any other gun.
4:45 "What the hell kind of armor was she wearing?"
FUN FACT: The armor Dare wears is called "Recon" a very rare and highly sought after armor within the Halo community introduced in Halo 3 where the only way to get it was to impress Bungie themselves and have them give it to you...
40:40 Woolie is entirely correct. Hunters strike with such force that a single blow turns your physics off proven by the magic spinning box
I think Minh made another oopsie trying to fix the nightmare sounds that were originally at 15:51, and now the audio is unsynced.
Odst is my fav halo cus of the atmosphere and soundtrack and the suppressed pistol and smg are my fav adds to a arsenal
