    Thanks for another fantastic video! It was a very interesting trip through the 1970s, including the 18 months of Australia's 'ABBA-Mania'. 👍

    Incredibly, most of the songs still sound fresh today in 2024.

    ABBA, Sweet, Queen, Rod Stewart, Bee Gees, Boney M, Village People, Donna Summer, Blondie, The Carpenters, Tony Orlando & Dawn, Michael Jackson, The Beatles and the four Beatles solo, Elvis Presley, Chicago, Suzi Quatro, Olivia Newton-John, Bay City Rollers, Harry Nilsson, Rolling Stones, Elton John, Racey, Chic, Bonnie Tyler, and my favorite #2 song in Australia in the 70s: I Was Made For Loving You, by KISS in 1979, the #2 song in Australia on the year-end chart for 1979. Aussies have great taste!

    Another great upload. Funny as ABBA really exploded onto the scene in the mid 70s with loads of No.1s but only a few top 10s after 76. A strange decline but they remained successful here in the UK.

      The top TV show Countdown helped launch them world wide by success in Australia with their film clips in 1975 after which the rest of the world took notice. But after fourteen weeks of number one for Fernando the host of Countdown and local artists having their new records kept from number one started a campaign to gradually make them uncool. It worked

    Such great memories. I wish we had more of our Aussies as #1 but glad to see Daddy Cool, Livvy, Dragon, TMG, LRB, Skyhooks, Bee Gees... a couple of one hit wonders in there too (Up There Kazaly + Aunty Jack) but I wish swe boosted our own more. ACDC, Divinyls, Sports, Chisel... ahh well. Great stuff!!!

    Wow Australia loved ABBA between 1975-76!! There's some good stuff in here - Australians have a very good mix of their summit holders. I think every country must have had 'Mull of Kintyre' top. At least 'Pop Muzik' by M made it to first. Unlucky second place here, even if 'Bright Eyes' is a gorgeous song.

    • @johnd8892
      @johnd8892 2 года назад

      Mull top in so many countries but only 40 or 60 in the US. So many in the US objected to it being in a recent list of monthly world number ones just because they had not heard it
      In the UK a huge selling record stayed at number 2 for a month behind Mull of Kintyre. Floral Dance by the Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band. Only about 25 singles in all of the UK seventies outsold it.

    Great compilation here as always Francis and thanks again for such another great work of art!! Maybe it's just me noticing but in my opinion the Australian music market has the right blend of their own local talent as well as both the UK and the US. It's quite underrated and it should be focused more often by more content creators. Again, a great presentation!!

    C'était le bon temps. Ce devait être magique d'être adolescent et jeune adulte dans la vingtaine en Australie dans les 70's. En tout cas, je connais à peu près 75% des chansons présentes dans cette vidéo, alors que je serais tout juste en mesure de citer 3 ou 4 chansons qui ont été n°1 aux 4 coins du monde de 1995 à aujourd'hui.

    Up There Cazaly at 13:14 notable getting to number one in that being about the Victorian Football League and Australian Rules Football it would mainly sell in the state of Victoria with close to no sales in the large Sydney and Queensland markets. Unless I am very much mistaken.

      Hardly a novelty record in sight is one big difference I noticed. I found one song on here that I heard in the 70s but didn't know who it was by or what it was called. One of Helen Reddy's I remember her Angie Baby being a big hit and played lots on the radio here in the UK in winter 1974-75.

    Much appreciated.
    Surprising how Australians liked to keep a record at number one for many weeks at a time then.
    Doubt that happened in many other more fickle countries.

    • @Beckford4000
      @Beckford4000 Год назад

      define a "fickle" country? Bear in mind, during the 70s a lot of countries were under dictatorial regimes e.g. the entire eastern half of Europe, along with Spain, Portugal, Italy, most of South America, South Africa - in many of these countries singles were too expensive, so there was no point in a singles chart. Or the figures were so manipulated by the state that the chart was irrelevant. Even in the UK the charts were manipulated, e.g. that time when the Sex Pistols outsold Rod Stewart, but the BBC wouldn't allow an anti-monarchy song to be #1 during the queen's jubilee.

    Was the early version of Rod Stewart's "Maggie Mae" at 2:57 available in Australia (or elsewhere) in the 70s? Maybe 2013's album Rarities was the first way for the general public to hear it. I assume this version was selected instead of the actual 1971 release to avoid a RUclips copyright strike.
