I am making a solar powered steam generator and have learned so much about how Boilers work it's amazing. Steam is incredible..I learned you cannot just heat 1 section of copper metal with a Fresnal lens, boiling only works because the entire combustion chamber is hot and lit which interacts with every sq inch of the copper in the walls. Is the water in the copper tubing simply being heated until a certain PSI then the valve interaction is where the steam is generated? I can only get water to rise like a thermometer when it's sealed under vacuum. I can boil it when the air is flowing, but can't build any pressure this way. Thank you for the video!
does safety valve only work on media; steam? for fluid: water petrolium can it be used where flow pressure is 10 /30 PSI? Would temperature of media also be considered? Is it possible for me to become engineer like this gentleman. where to start please advice I am interested in this kind of work. Currently I am a vehicle mekanic
There are safety valves for most substances that are under pressure. While no one safety valve can do it all, having a safety valve saves you from dangerous over pressure. To start in the trade to become a boilerman, you really want to get an understanding of how these work. Take a look at your local trade schools and see if they offer HVAC / Mechanical courses. Hopefully that helps!
I do not understand the concept of how simmering steam increases the surface area of the disc, causing the valve to pop open. Could you please explain in detail how that works? Thank You!
Rewatch the section where Bill is talking about simmering works ruclips.net/video/8rsB8V30Owg/видео.html It isn't that the steam is increasing the surface area of the disc but rather the steam is using the rest of the disk to push up. That changes the force value in the pressure x area equation. Hopefully that helps!
When the disc is closed, the inlet pressure acts over the cross sectional area A defined by the nozzle. When the inlet pressure approaches the set pressure, the force F=P*A applied to the disc approaches/balances the spring force down causing the metal to metal seat tightness to reduce. A leak/simmer will ensue and now the process pressure starts to act over the larger surface area A' presented by the larger diameter disc. When that area gets a full dose of inlet pressure the force F=P*A' exceeds the spring force and the disc is pushed up. On a proper steam valve, you can manipulate the blow down rings to change the effective cross sectional area A' .

From Bill, A safety valve lever (handle) is required if the valve is in one of the following services. Air, steam or water over 140F. If not is these services a screwed cap maybe used. Hopefully that answers your question! Thanks for watching!

What is the factory hole for on the body of the valve and why would steam be leaking out of it?

The handle just allows for manual release of pressure which will give the operator a general idea if the valve is releasing and reseating correctly.
