Vet tech here. Munchkins suffer from a lot of health problems with arthritis being the big thing. They are not ethical and it's sad seeing 2 year old cats in so much pain from deformed joints and spine. Bambinos even worse because you mix skin issues into the whole genetic mess. These guys come from unethical breeders that prioritize looks over health.

@@akirakato1293 I've seen Oriental Shorthairs fit the bill. As long as you are buying from a breeder that has proof of OFAs (or whatever that country's version of OFAs are) and genetic health tests. It's important to do research before hand. Reputable breeders will have a wait list. They will pick kittens that seem they would best suit you. They show their cat and have won shows showing proof of conformation. Please note I've only met like 5 total so this may not fully fit. As the catteries tend to produce Muchkins, Bambinos, Ragdolls, and British Shorthairs. So those are the breeds I see the most. I always advocate adoption too, but you will never know what health issues are in the genetics. Adopt responsibly or shop responsibly! Going to cat shows in your area and talking to breeders can also be very helpful on finding a breed for you!

The way i see it it is unethically to breed specific traits for pets. Imagine if we did that for people? The latest fashion is to have a child that's 10ft 3 with a curved spine and tiny little t-rex arms. Life for them would be short and hellish but who am i kidding. There are some people with some screws loose who would follow such a disturbing trend because it's popular

You do realize that people with dwarfism have babies, right? They will often even prefer that they have dwarfism. Also, if two people with dwarfism procreate, there is a 25% chance that their child will be double dominant, meaning they got 2 copies of the dwarfism gene. It's lethal. Every time.

Cat breeding and dog breeding for cuteness gets me sick sometimes.
Not even just the smushed in face, either. Some breeds have the heightened risk of a brain too big for the skull (Cavalier King Charles Spaniels), some are known for the likelihood of not being able to eat protein (Dalmations). For English bulldogs, they full-out have to be bred via IVF because they're so heavy that they can break the dam's back. Then on top of that, they have through a c-section for birth because their heads are too large. (The enlarged head is also a risk on Boston Terriers and c-sections are not at all rare for them) Bassett hounds and dachunds are known for back and joint issues. Curled tails like you find on pugs is a risk for being paralyzed. Elbow and hip dysplasia for many breeds, (especially German shepherds, but *far* from the only one). Irish wolfhounds and greyhounds are known for heart issues. Then there's something called spaniel fever. Then we have pulis.. whether you have time for caring for that coat or not, that coat does nothing for them.
People are so caught up in how a pet looks instead of the welfare of that animal. Shows in the behavior of the pet, too. There so many horrible videos of pets online; it's shameful. There are so many of dogs "being cute" by attacking their owners (unsociallized and untrained Chihuahuas with "small dog syndrome"), chasing around/attacking other pets, then you have videos like that guy in a batman mask demanding "where's the catnip" when that cat is full out cowering and *terrified* of him.
    .
Went on a tangent, but breeding for certain characteristics instead of for their health is getting horrific. So many people do not care about their pets' welfare, only their wish to have a pet for company and possibly just that and just for videos and pictures to share online. Not every owner, of course, but there are thousands.

Learn to fact check. short legged cats do not have the same health issues as their dog counterparts, this is because cats have more flexible spines and different muscle structures. they are built to twist while they climb while dogs are built to run long distances. breeding munchkins with other munchkins can result in stillbirths however the breed is as healthy as any other cat breed

I really liked this, actually bringing attention to the ethical problems with munchkins unlike so many other videos I've seen. Thank you ❤️ years ago it was being said that munchkins don't have health issues and I immediately thought "that we know of" and "it's just a question of when not if that the breed will have issues specifically due to the characteristic", you just have to look at corgis and dachshunds to see what the long spine short legs combo does to an animal... And how breeders keep denying the problems and thus you shouldn't trust breeders for factual information on the health and well being/quality of life of the breed. I've seen people who breed *British bulldogs* act as if they have any right to speak on the ethics of snake breeding for example, claiming the spider morph in ball pythons with its neurological issues is fine.
