    18:19 Wow - having a dedicated "final fit" wall - mounted clamping device is amazing! Does the machine have any other purpose other than to bring the joints together?

    Great information thank you. I am making sliding shoji screens and I have Book 1 of Desmond King but he doesn't say the thickness of the top track and bottom track. I can make an assumption from a diagram with a 3mm bottom slot that the bottom can be as little as 13.5mm thick and the top rail can be as little as 24.5mm thick. Do you have any recommendations? Thank you

      Hey, thanks for the comment.
      Generally, the thickness of the top track of Japanese sliding door is 18 mm and that of the bottom track is 30 mm.
      I wish you the best of luck with your wonderful shoji screens 👍

      @@samurai-woodworker hi, could I gamble you may answer one more question for me please? The last shoji I made were bifold not sliding and they were tall - 2300mm. I made the bottom rail 120mm h the mid rail 50mm h and the top rail 90mm h. The stiles were 58mm wide. This gave nice proportions to my eye. The next 4 sliding set are also 2300mm high and I wonder if I should make everything narrower so they weigh less. They will slide on the stiles like traditional. I was thinking bottom 90mm mid 50mm top 60mm stiles 30mm. What size would you make them?
      Thanks 🙏

      @michaeld8200 hi, The balance of the shoji you create is wonderful.
      If I were to make a shoji, I would probably make it the same size as yours.
      If the strength is ok, you may not need to put in a mid rail.
      This is because in Japan, there are very few patterns of inserting a mid rail in shoji screens.

    What kind of wood do you use? Does the door slide wood on wood?

      Doors are made of Japanese cypress.
      The doors are fitted with door rollers so they move smoothly😄

    Hello, how thick is the door?

    • @samurai-woodworker
      @samurai-woodworker  Год назад +1

      Hi, this door is approximately 1, 18 inches thick.
      Most Japanese sliding doors are of this thickness.
