Thank you for sharing this. I am also on this curriculum. I brought a Graham Bell library book @the library the other day for .50. And we also will start the book 2 next school year.
Of course 😉 .50 that is a steal! I may have to check out our libraries for book sales. I have been purchasing from Amazon and thriftbooks.com but it can get pricey.
@@simplyhomeschool18 totally agree!!! We just did the last one on the Gold Rush which was super fun! I wish we dug deeper like Helen Keller and a few others.
Ok, I've known about your unit studies before but today watching this it got me thinking and excited to maybe do this for 4th grade. Ive been researching what to use for 4th grade since we did american history last year, but we did abeka and just went through the different people which we loved but not to much else besides reading the textbook. but I wanted to go deeper this year. I was looking at gather round for their mini units for US History, but now watching your video it has me thinking.
Rolanda it has been so much fun. You can totally choose what you want to dive deeper in or just choose to read the lesson. There are so many greats books to read a long side the curriculum. It’s been wonderful. And the girls have been enjoying them (for the most part).
Thank you for sharing your process Liz. Gave me a great starting point. I will be putting unit studies together for my older girls as well as my nieces for pre-K.
During your Alexander Graham bell unit you could learn about Lewis latimer since you wanted to do more black history, i think he also helped Thomas Edison with some of his inventions as well.
We’re doing something similar with Story of the World for 2nd grade. I lumped lessons together for different locations and will use those as a ‘unit’ study. I do a lot of read alouds so ours isn’t so much activities yet but we enjoy all the family time reading and coloring. :)
Thank you so much Liz!!! This helps so much. I appreciate you doing this video!!! Hope your week is going well! We are thick into strawberry season here and it is a great crop for us this year. We have just a small patch but we may get enough to last 6 months or so...depends on how much jam I make. This year I have to make jam and jelly as we arr completely out. Hoping the black raspberry do just as well. Thank you again and happy planning!!
You’re welcome! I had you in mind when I made this video. I hope it explained how I research clearly. 😉 Oh my goodness! That is awesome! Are there any houses for sale in the neighborhood?!? Lol I want to move to the country soooo bad. I want to make jam from my own strawberries. ☺️
@@simplyhomeschool18 Would love to have you as a neighbor Liz!!! We personally love IN. We love all 4 seasons. We did live in GA when my husband was in the service by Savannah and we love it there to. Savannah and Tybee Island are my happy place and we try to vacation there frequently. I cant remember last time I was in CA we went to a strawberry upick there and the berries were delicious. Hopefully you can find some nearby...fieldtrip! Our upicks around here are charging 2.50lb. When I searched I wasnt as refined as you so that is my problem. I would for say just put in helen keller and not find what I was looking for. I will drill down better. So I really appreciate that video!! Definitely pin pointed what I needed to change. PS I pray you find your country setting close by all your family as I can tell how close you seem! You are so blessed to have that.
❤️ Yes, they do have Upick fruit orchards near by. Those are always fun. We love going to them. That reminds me, I have to check them out. Yeah, with searching you have to get specific. 👍 Yes, please pray. We are all thinking about moving, but finding somewhere we all are ok with. And finding jobs. That’s the tough part.
We are using OSSS this year too! We plan to expand some of the concepts, but it is such a great curriculum. We may add in the states from their 50 States curriculum as we read about them, but I haven't decided yet. Thanks for sharing your process :)
We love unit study style learning so much! These are great tips ❤️
Thank you. 😉 Unit studies are my favorite things. Except for Bible. That will always be our #1.

This is super duper helpful!!! I wish we did more unit studies with OSSS this year.
You can always just do units focused on the topics, but not the actual Notgrass lessons. 👍

It’s not to late 😉
One of three top views :) Thanks all for your sharing

You’re welcome Linda. Super exciting things are coming your way. 💕
I do something similar with America's story. It looks like we are going to have a lot of similar unit studies this year. :)
That is awesome Ticket to Learning. ☺️

Thank you Krown_Royelle. I will definitely check some books out on him.

Don’t you love having the flexibility with homeschool to be able to do that! I am loving it. Read alouds and coloring, the perfect duo.

How many days a week do you work on history?
Hi Robin. For 2020-2021 we were doing 4-5 days a week. It really just depended on our week.
