Mick Tucker & Jerry Mercer of April Wine were my Drummer idols growing up. Both absolutley spectacular at their craft. Can't get enough of them on RUclips.
Totally . I honestly can watch him play and play and Twirl and play! Such a powerful Drummer, so skilled without being too much. Very animated too, but not too much like Keith Moon. Brilliant. And proof that this band was far more than just a pop band. They were a hard-driving rock powerhouse as well, and went on to craft some of the most iconic hard rock songs ever, and even briefly ventured into prog-rock, where their instrumental prowess and vocal harmonizing were a highlight. For instance, "Action" was a killer hard-rock masterpiece, and most of the "Level Headed" album showed what they could do in prog-rock territory. When I was a kid in the 1970's, I would eagerly await each new album, as each album was different from the last, and I was never disappointed. I was always upset that this band got written off as a pop band. But while they certainly excelled at that, they worked hard to show that they were much more than that, and they succeeded tremendously, but most folks didn't notice. The fans did though, and while I want to thank Sweet for doing everything they did for brightening up my teen years and every year after that, I also want to thank my fellow fans for sticking with them and for being proud to carry the banner. Rock on!
Perhaps, it was because they were Glam and Glam was overtaken by Punk. So, rather than appear as a yesterday band then they tried to focus on their serious side which we could always see but it didn't work out for a few well known reasons.
Brian's stage presence was extraordinary... doing virtually nothing special or spectacular. He stood out in trousers and a simple white t-shirt, just standing there without even moving much, elbows bent and hands on hips...and you knew it was him! Unmistakable...what you call 'charisma'...
@MrCash-vw7io It's impossible to find someone like him, in terms of physical presence and character. Because in the last years of his life, his humility and the strength of his spirit overshadowed, by far, what had been an incredible beauty. He was not ashamed of the signs of suffering on his face, nor was he ashamed to show pain... with a courage that many would dream of. There you realise that the splendour, the vigour of his youth were nothing compared to his soul: he represented everything for which a man can be called great❤️
These guys were on form that night,Mick missing a beat at 1.35 to adjust his mike,Andy thrashing his 335 at 1.50 and the poor old HH amp is gasping for breath, this is raw hard rock at it's very best,no silly effects here just four guys going to work.I must admit The Musikladen clips are the best by far.
They were so fuckin tight, tight, tight! at this stage....And the part after the solo beginning from 2:07 is a real challenge to keep up the rhythm, but they`re all brilliant. They never got the necessary recognition of a live rock band that they deserved.
Andy and Mick are so Spinal Tap (in a good way) years ahead of the 80s and all the shit that followed. Sweet fucking so misunderstood and under appreciated except by us in the know
One thing I don't see commented on this song is the late Steve Priest's bass line. Priest's playing underneath the first two verses of the chorus of "Burn on the flame's" studio version tell me exactly why on his passing earlier this year Andy Scott said the former was the best bassist he ever worked with. MAN. Hope he's with Jesus now. Musically, IMO, this may have been their strongest composition.
