Baseball is just one of the things that makes Summer so great to me. Sure did like Willie and glad I got to at least see him play. Even if it was just a few games late in his career and on tv to boot. Thanks. Steve
Grew up hearing the names of all the great players. Any cards we bought we ended up losing. As an adult I've never bought memorabilia. I do have a Cleveland Browns 1965 training camp photo that came from Art Modells mansion when he cleaned it out after moving the Browns to Baltimore. I'll do a video on that one! Lol
Collected them as a kid all the time. What didn't get trashed or lost throughout the years came in handy for the times I was laid off. Helped pay the bills. Used to swap for them. That would be a great story to hear. Can't wait. Thanks. Steve
Johnny Bench had the same affect on me. Best catcher of the day, I wore #5 because of Bench. I soon realized that I was not a very good catcher but I still loved Bench.
You know Bench could hold 7 baseballs in one hand. I always thought that was amazing. The "Big Red Machine" was probably my favorite of all. I read a book about Bench when I was a kid. Talked about how he was a leader from his first game. Loved to watch him and the Reds. Good times. Thanks. Steve
I'm the same way, I keep the house at 77 and when the ac comes on it feels like it blowing right on me the entire time. I look like the old man with his lap blanket.
That's exactly what my kids say to me when I put that shirt on in the house. The old man has broke out his flannel. I don't mind but is sure is cold feeling. Sure beats the heat of the oven and dryer in the house though. Thanks. Steve
I was a Hank Aaron fan so I didn’t appreciate how good Willie was. Like you, he was past his prime when I saw him & didn’t get what all the hype was about him. But when you look at his numbers, he was absolutely great! BTW, I have those same 2 cards of him you showed👍
Same two, no kidding? That '73 I got from a cousin and started me collecting when I was young. The '66 I got in my twenties from a friend. Don't fool with them any more and haven't for decades but really enjoyed it when I was younger. Mostly just traded them. Thanks. Steve
@@stevescorner2702 I started collecting around 70-71. My dad bought a grocery bag full of cards for me from a friend which had mostly 60’s cards in it. So that’s where I got the 66
I'd vote for him. Loved the "Big Red Machine". Saw him play at Riverfront stadium in Cincinnati back in the 80's. In my opinion he should have already been in. Thanks. Steve
That’s a great Willie Mays card. What’s the other year you like? You mentioned 1975 but I can’t find his card that year except for an mvp card shared with Yogi Berra. Really enjoy the stuff you talk about!
Willie retired before '74 so he didn't have a card in '75. It's a two toned card. Just like the looks of the card, it really stands out from all the others. I'm generally just rambling and talking about whatever I feel like at the time. Today I was just thinking back to Willie and the great sounds of summer. Tomorrow it could be fishing, flowers, bird feeders or a story about family and friends. Just having a little fun in retirement. Thanks. Steve
Nice talk... Willie Mays R.I.P.
