My son took the grandson to rest bay yesterday and he went in the water ,no wetsuit.I went in the Seagull once when our team played Porthcawl at soccer.Didn’t see any fish and chip shop then my mind was on the beer. All in all there wasn’t much difference between the fish and chips they were all a very high standard. The only difference was sit in or sit out.The best bit was they were spread out so wherever you were you wouldn’t have to walk far.I’ll miss the videos so I’have to watch them all again.Thank you and Melissa for your effort you put in.If we ever meet I’ll buy you a big bottle of Tomato Ketchup and a jumbo sausage.Once again many thanks.
Thanks again for the comments. Mel would appreciate the Tomato Ketchup. The overall standard was pretty good as you can see. In some ways we were relieved as we didn't want to criticise any local business but didn't want to lie if any were bad.
I am sad this series has come to an end.. for now! Would love to see more throughout the country. Maybe I will get out and try different fish and chips around my town. It is definitely not a seaside town and we probably don't have the quality, but I am sure if I explore I can find some good ones!
Hi guys. Thirty years ago we used to live just around the corner from that precinct but there was no chip shop there in those days that I can recall. It is a great location for the estate as it saves you having to drive into town. Keep dry and warm. Mike
Brilliant guys ! 👍👍 Great info and really enjoyable to watch. The views from Rest Bay are stunning Since the relaxing of the stay local rule we managed to get to Porthcawl and tried Franco's, like you said they were great and the staff were so welcoming and friendly. We'll try another one when we are there next time. 🤩👍 Thanks
Ive watched all ur fish chips shop videos.. and started watching all ur other videos.. ( nice genuine people with good honest opinions ) 👍👍 i am from st athan
What a delightful setting to sit and enjoy some fish & chips or an icecream. For me, the most important criteria would be the taste (unless there were charging silly Gordon Ramsey type prices). The presentation doesn't bother too much, because as someone once said: Food is just sh!t waiting to happen. I have really enjoyed this little mini-series of you and Mel sampling the many splendid delights of the Porthcawl chippies. I have also enjoyed the gentle sparring and banter that you both enjoy between each other. Keep up the good work.
Blimey they looked good Marcus I was dribbling all over my keyboard! - I think another chippy you should try if you ever get there is the Seafarer in Port Eynon I went there yesterday and it was fantastic!
We hope to start travelling again around Wales and further afield when we can. Although we won't be doing another dedicated series on chippies we may try some other chips shops when we come across them.
In the Denver area we have a chain called GB (you can guess, of course) Fish and Chips. Atlantic cod. We use vinegar on the fish, and give it (just the fish) about 9.5. The chips there, as with most restaurants these, days are less than what they were (maybe 6 when hot) in the olden days before somebody decided everything deep fried should be cooked in rancid hydrogenated vegetable oil. The really good, old school ones were cooked in animal fat and were normally 8 or higher. Anyway, thanks for making me hungry!
One thing we can't get over in the vids is the fantastic smell of fresh chips with salt and vinegar. We've been to quite a few US states but still haven't visited Colorado yet.
@@flydriveexplore Yes, there's always much more to see and report on. Strange though if you get here only to discover GB [British] Fish & Chips to be the best you've tasted. Our treat. : )
Well done both, another great video. Don't forget, when you buy your next car and they ask what extras you would like:- 1. Ketchup holder. 2. Chip proof seats. Stay safe both.
Love your videos some great shops in porthcawl. I'll happily point anyone in the direction of some amazing shops across the country some of my favourites are Chez fred, Westbourne Krispies, Exmouth Squires, Braunton Papa's, Cleethorpes pier and Hull Our plaice, Hagley Chip shed, Warwick and Bourton on the water Longsands, North shields Colmans south shields Hooked at 31, Fishguard Fish kitchen, maesycymmer My list is endless The great thing with fish amd chips is everyone has their own opinion of what a great shop is thankfully we have so many individuals who are passionate about what they do and the offerings are excellent
That one looked good. Can't remember if it was there when I was in Rockfields but I remember when the shops were being built. Nice to get tours of the place. If you travel further afield, soon. Tenby's traditional on Trafalgar Rd is best in that town and... Another recommendation for Lime Crab in Newquay. The fam said 'geasy' but I seriously enjoyed the deep fried scallops. Usually, mine's a Haddock. Stay well.
Could try Peneluna chip ship in Hirwaun. Has won many best chip shop awards and especially good for its fish. They even have a sign of what ship the fish was caught on. Deff recommend
Hi there, didn’t realise there was a chippy tucked away there, might give it a try, especially as I queued outside Beales for about 20 mins yesterday the fish I was given must have been the one that slipped through the net, it was the size of a jumbo fish finger, try my local Dick Barton’s in West Cross Swansea worthy of a review, better get some air freshener for the car....great series by the way!! Jumbo Jumbo

It was a great place to play on our bikes when we were kids around that presinct. Most of my friends used to live near that area at the time.
Lovely to watch. You made me smile. Can’t beat chips and curry sauce. Thank you.

Aww that looks lovely and nice view eating them over the sea. We had a covering snow up in the valleys this morning
It was good. No snow here, still cold but sunny.
@@flydriveexplore Porthcawl is a different world to the valleys. Can't beat the sea side tho.

No Intel north of there, sorry.

Thanks for the recommendation. We definitely be trying some others when we are travelling around.
Have you tried the Cantonese on new road around the corner from beales? We travel to have their food mmm.. Curry rice and chips in a tray yummy 😍
Yep, that's the one we often go to.
Try a Plaice called Rhondda chippy ...excellent plus the curry is fab .
We will put it on our list.

Thanks. We'll now take a break from fish and chips for a while. Maybe next time, if we do something similar we should try them all in a single day 🤢
What about the chippy by the fair?
For this series we've only done the chips shops open all year and not just seasonally.
@@flydriveexplore don’t blame you, never eaten there, looks a bit grubby but it’s always busy when we pass. Keep up the great work
Number 6 is here. Wahoooooooo!
Yep, more chips!
@@flydriveexplore As someone who’s not lived in the UK for 20 years it’s great to see some proper chippy action. Lovely videos too. Thank you.
Great video I enjoyed it can't wait to see more soon greetings from Canada 😀
You can't go wrong with chips!
@@flydriveexplore your right about it. Fish and chips are my favorite
Which fish & chips came out best with the scores ?
Technically, Francos and Finnegans came out the best but there wasn't much between any of them.
Carry On Chippy!
Have you tried the new one opposite the seagull?
Irish curry and sausage totally new to me..nowhere else..all the best

Anglesey now !

@@flydriveexplore sorry this the one yes.
You should do an ice cream one thro the summer 🍦
There's an idea.
To be honest I didn't know there is a chip shop by there.
I'm not sure how long it has been there, they do put signs on Fulmar Road.
Anstruther 10/10 bit of a trip but it’s a lovely part of Scotland
