I was at this game with my Dad and twin brother for a birthday treat. Unfortunately there was trouble at the end of the game and we left. Soured a great day out.
Actually, of the Arsenal team, the team had changed almost totally, I think only O’Leary played both matches, and Paul Davis was in squad: Jennings: Left in 85, then Retired in 86 Anderson: Left in 87 Samson: Left in 88 Caton: Left in 87 Robson: Left in 87 Talbot: Left in 85 Woodcock: Left in 86 Nicholas: Left in 88 Mariner: Left in 86 Of the Liverpool team, there were a few more : Grobelaar, Hansen Whelan and Nicol I think.
Rabbie Burns If you ask a lot of ex-players who played with Bruce at the time they would say yes he was erratic but he took a lot of pressure off the defence and came for a lot of high balls and would pull off the the unbelievable save yes he made mistakes but I don’t think Liverpool would’ve been as successful without him 84 treble86 double .And 89 when I think we only lost one game with him in goal when he came back from meningitis which just goes to show you what a big part of the team he was

Thanks for video. 2 great teams with many great players in the magic Highbury atmosphere
Quite a few of these players were still in their respective teams come the May 1989 title decider at Anfield

Gr8footy,
Thanks for this coverage of excellent game. Fine display by Paul Mariner for Arsenal.
The good old days before big money come
Quality Umbro kits both side had
The best away Liverpool kit of all time
The canary yellow away strip is quite easy on the eyes. I really like this edition, but the late 70s canary yellow (78 - 79 Hitachi) is nicer.
John Buggy yes the 78-79 kit was class as well.
Thank you... Great video
Great footage thanks . VAR would have had a field day !!
I have the program from this match
Have you lol
Back when real mens play football.
What a joke of a goalkeeper Grobbelaar was.
Liverpool would of won a lot more without him. He was always up to his old tricks. Sometimes he did save us but he threw more.
save yer ass in 86 like ha
I NEVER liked him. My 11 year old self thought he was shit & my 46 year old self hasn't changed his mind. Dodgy in more ways than one. Prick.
He played a big part in the Rome victory.
