Important little side note, ranged minions do triple damage to structures, and on many heroes, end up doing more damage to the building than you. Protect your little guys!!!
Engagement to grow the player base! The two things I like most about HotS compared to LoL or Dota is: 1. Strong support/healing roles 2. Team-based Objective play is priority (usually) LoL and Dota is like 20 minutes of 'building your character' so that you can really start playing and you often know who's going to win based on which carry is leveling faster. HotS has better comeback mechanics, which may sound bad, except games are only 15-25 minutes compared to 30+ minimum. It just simply makes the time playing more fun.
HotS has the worst comeback mechanics as soon as 1 or 2 ppl in your team are not on par with the enemy team. Then it is simply over. In HotS the Team is like one big hero, if they do not play or synergize well together, it is over. League and Dota 2 offer much more comeback options for single players / duos / trios.
@DPSheeshI just started playing and I believe experienced people choose different talents depending on team composition, map, and situation. Maybe some talents are better for snowballing if you get a few kills advantage at the beginning, and others are better for playing defensive and soaking exp
It's great to see that content creation for Heroes of the Storm is still kickin' in 2025. My time making content for it is long over, but it's great to see that it's in good hands now, keep up the great work!
I used to play this game a lot back in the day. You kind of reminded me how interesting it was. Gonna have to go in finish of a few more heroes since Ive been playing them all to lvl 10.
21:15 the XP bonus is not for camps, but for hero kills - it's called "underdog bonus" and caps at 4 lvl difference... if there's level imbalance, the team with lower level gains more, and team with higher level gains less XP for hero kills - at 4 (max) level difference, the weaker team gets 100% bonus, and the stronger team gets 95% less XP for hero kills, meaning that camps are actually what you prioritize as a *stronger* (rather than weaker) team, as that becomes your main XP source (since hero kills give only 5% now).. this keeps one team from overtaking the other too much, as 2-3 level difference could easily turn into 6+ level difference after a few teamfights without these mechanics... with these mechanics in place, you basically never see 5 level difference, and the 4 level difference can be pretty much fully closed with 1 teamfight win, giving the weaker a fighting chance
PLEASE MAKE MORE VIDEOS LIKE THIS!! With generalities about the game etc Ive been playing for a long time but I got to learn a lot of new things with this video Thank you!
Being able to choose your hero before queueing into qp was always the best part of hots. You always got to play what you wanted no matter what. League sorta has this now with their Swiftplay but they still force you to pick a secondary unpopular role (though you can still play whatever character you want)
As a new player in the modern year of 2025 this is honestly such a helpful video! Qp makes it a bit hard to learn with so many ppl going afk or feed on purpose
I've missed this game a ton, haven't played it in years and years. Made my heart happy to google guides and see multiple videos with tens of thousands of views made in the past year or so. Can't thank y'all enough for keeping the lights on
I would also say always grab merc camps 30 - 45 seconds before obj. You get xp if they destroy towers plus it has lane push. Forces the enemy team to clear before they fight.
As someone who has lapsed from HOTS but is feeling nostalgic, great video. Five tips I can add to this: 1) Find out if anyone in communities you're already a part of play HOTS. You'd be surprised how many lapsed players there are who could be convinced to play again. 2) Find a hero you like in each of the 5 main roles. It doesn't matter for Quick Match, but it allows you to be flexible and play off teammates if you play Ranked or play with a party. 3) Don't be caught reading your Talents when you could be soaking. Read them up beforehand. If you have trouble remembering what your talents do, look up a build online, play a few bot matches to familiarize yourself with what buff comes with what level and the gameplan of the character, and then play. A build that is bad for your situation is better than the best build that you built slowly because you didn't know what to grab mid-teamfight or that got you killed because you were stopped in a bush reading. 4) Learn your other talents. Tip #3 is great if you are new and learning a character, but if you're sticking to it past that it can be a trap. Knowing your other talents, knowing what options are coming up at your next talent pick or even further in the game, knowing what works best against your opponents' comp: that is what getting better at a character looks like. This is why Top #2 helps a lot. Lowers the amount of stuff you have to memorize to improve with each character. 5) Paradoxically to #2 though... unlocking rewards is faster the less you've played of a hero. This is where ARAM comes in. If you get a hero you've never used, you're making progress toward unlocking heroes and that new skin you want. If you get a hero you do know how to play, well, you have an advantage over those who don't know theirs. Win-Win. Hey, you could also find a new favourite along the way.
Funnily enough I re-downloaded HOTS today and booted it up to give it another go. It’s been years and I’ve gotten bit slower with my reaction time haha 😅.
Everyone going aram mid cause it gives priority for rotation, when you push minion wave first you free to rotate first and gank. And even on 2 lanes map you go mid to make sure enemy can't surprize you with pushing one lane early.
This is amazing of you for helping out also attracting more people , I started playing a like almost a year ago eh my first interaction was horrible had someone message me to kms, I was like yikes , so seeing this to help out newcomers is very nice im still a scrub I feel like when I play it lol
Mute player and mute player pings are great option if a payer gets to toxic. And never give up, any team can make a come back no matter how bad the situation gets, I have3 played over 12,000 matches in this game.
Level 4700, (main account) main long ago 999'd ....999'in "GURL GAL", CASSIE and Dva..and i thoughly enjoyed this video. I have never set up QUICKCAST, though peeps urge me to & have learned much from this video. Well done. I am by no means more than a filthy casual...but this game is a riot, due to the COMMUNITY. The community is, from MY PERSPECTIVE, incredibly positive. Yes there are "undesireables" but they quickly reveal themselves. I have facial nerve pain & the LAUGHTER ENDORPHINS I get are my secondary form of endogenous pharma. I do NOT take exogenous pharma for any physical pain. LAUGHTER and shared joy are my meds.
11:11 This is true for most damage, not sure if there are any other exceptions but.. Deathwing Cataclysm DoT does not draw Fort/Keep aggro, only the initial hit when Deathwing impacts with Cataclysm does.
Good video, thanks! I recently tried HotS (because I was trying to avoid a LoL relapse) and vs AI has been fun but I felt like I needed some real Knowledge to join real games, so thank you! Informative and entertaining, nice work!
Hanamura = Garbage lol I love your sense of humour :D EDIT: During 1-4-0 split actually the 4-man should most of the time rotate between two lanes. Solo-laners can do that only if they're fast at clearing waves.
im an old player but i had to watch this because of the editing very thorogh, couple things what im sure was an oversight since there is a lot of information here in a compact format 1 - 1 catapult spawn every 2nd wave after a fort is destroyed, every wave when a keep is destoryed 2 - minions and mercs scale with level, buildings are npt, except the shield on core 3 - your question, im sure capping mercs while behind on level doesnt give bonus xp, but i assume it might give different xp levels based on level and passive xp gain 4 - buy the minimap dlc 5 - seroiusly buy the minimap and learn to use it 6 - edit, those 7 people who downvoted the video, block them
Awesome vid. Only thing I can think of was talking about how mounting and movement speed is different compared to League. In League, if I had to go back to base to heal or buy items, it would take me out of the game for like 30 seconds at least. Takes a while to get back to lane. In Heroes, I can hearth for a quick burst of health and mana, then mount and get back to my lane all in like 15 seconds. Similarly, you can mount to get from bottom lane to mid, top lane to a camp, mid lane to objective. Basically if you're moving more than a screen's length away from where you currently are, mounting up first will get you there faster than just running. The biggest thing I've seen happen when League players transfer to HoTS is not utilizing the mounts. Top lane needs some soaking? Mount up, go kill it, mount up, go back to mid, kill minions, mount up, go get camp. You should basically always use it.
There's a 6th ping, which is my favorite. The "anonymous ping" which is just g-click. You can ping whatever you want and it won't say who did it. Avoids finger pointing
27:12 Comparing games played: I'm at 8 years with 6,863 games played. Fox has played more than twice my games with only a year more of playing. Yup, I'd say he knows his stuff. :P Edit: 7:55 I've taken to putting my spray in the middle of the lane at the beginning. When else am I really going to use it? Sometimes you say "hi" to your lane opponent, sure, but really it's never used except the occasional taunt. And I don't taunt, so, "hello enemy team!"
The Tank/healer/(MR) dps/support roles are in need of updates since some of he hero simply don't belong in the category. Instead I personally like to determine how good they are individually in the Hit points/Crow control/fight or flight/PVE Departments, example Uther Hit points-Medium/ Crowd control-high/ Fight or flight - tickles you to the death (and after) no built in kit escapes/ PVE - embarrassing slow. Azmodan Hit points -very High (he needs a diet)/ Crowd control - none existent/ Fight or Flight - Very Long range coward, short legs big hit box, hopes to tank the damage, no built in escape/ PVE - Natural habitat, pushes till someone boots up diablo 3 to stop him.
Nice. I'm trying out HotS after playing LoL for a year or two like 10 years ago. Not loving the hero designs so far but pretty much every gameplay difference is a win in my book. Kind of intimidating though, not having a lane to stick to.
Thanks for finding the L key, the camera follow option is only in the main menu, if you try and find it whilst in a battle you can't. and I swear someone has wreck my battles unfairly because they've updated the game or something and they changed my fracking setting.

Found this video very helpful, was too late to the chat I guess, just went 4 and 7 in my first night playing non bot matches and just got destroyed in my whispers a few times😭 but thanks hopefully can do well enough to not get bullied after the games😂
great video, i just came back to the game, thanks for this :) keep up the good work ! what video should i watch next, to get better asap? :D
The changes cuz Blizzard pulled a tricky on me and updated the game:
ruclips.net/video/xF6QPwf6xfg/video.html
@hey_its_fox thanks mate :)
instructions unclear, ended up in Haunted Mines
I actually liked that map lmao
LOL i unironicaly played it 1v2 againts friends its so fun
Miss that map!
@battlericky17boy do I have news for you
@tcoren1 DID IT COME BACK?!
A beginners guide in current year? Wonders never cease.
"The "On my way" ping sends your team thoughts and prayers"
Absolutely floored. I use this ping a lot, and in retrospect, that's exactly how It feels.
"The assist me button is always good for a laugh" 😂
More engagement in order for Fox to get full of beans.
Important little side note, ranged minions do triple damage to structures, and on many heroes, end up doing more damage to the building than you. Protect your little guys!!!
PvE win
Melee Minions (and Leader Minions) also do triple damage to Structures, and catapults do double.
Engagement to grow the player base! The two things I like most about HotS compared to LoL or Dota is:
1. Strong support/healing roles
2. Team-based Objective play is priority (usually)
LoL and Dota is like 20 minutes of 'building your character' so that you can really start playing and you often know who's going to win based on which carry is leveling faster. btw this game has no itemization how do the game differ as the game on?

A lot ppl missing the minimap dlc :D
it's hidden behind their monster(tm) energy drink which they only pick up when they die.
@Kalleosiniahaha, that's a good one, indeed :-)
The jokes on pings, omw= thoughts and prayers, and assist me = good for a laugh. Is really funny.
I have houndreds of hours in HOTS and this was still an amazing video to watch.
Bravo fox 10/10
I wish this video came out when I started playing. I'd still suck, but with better keybinding.
It's great to see that content creation for Heroes of the Storm is still kickin' in 2025. My time making content for it is long over, but it's great to see that it's in good hands now, keep up the great work!

This is such a random and yet oddly perfect timing to get recommended a Heroes of the Storm guide, ngl
Let's all pool our energy together and pray Blizzard comes back to HotS...

That doesn't mean I'm good, just old.

I have been a HOTS player for years, and this is the best channel ever. How are you so funny and helpful? I am so glad I’m alive to subscribe to you.
The chromie blood sacrifice is only the beginning
This is the guide we need, but Blizzard does not deserve. Well done!
As a new player in the modern year of 2025 this is honestly such a helpful video! Qp makes it a bit hard to learn with so many ppl going afk or feed on purpose
Love seeing content made for new players. Anything positive that grows the playerbase is a win in my book!
It's not a trap, it's a high skill cap skill to get thank you.
I've missed this game a ton, haven't played it in years and years. Made my heart happy to google guides and see multiple videos with tens of thousands of views made in the past year or so.
Can't thank y'all enough for keeping the lights on
Welcome, people running away from League :D
Time to play some HOTS now!
Play hots - be the elite gamer
Great video. Ive been playing since 2015 and still learned something new
I would also say always grab merc camps 30 - 45 seconds before obj. You get xp if they destroy towers plus it has lane push. Forces the enemy team to clear before they fight.

this had great humour

this one has been a long time coming bro 🔥
Hell yeah.
I just wanted to say that sippy cup is dumb. It's the fountain.
ahhhhhh, man, now I really want to go play Abby on QM.
HOTS is such a great game man, it hurts me badly that blizzard decided to put it on life support. Great vid!
Funnily enough I re-downloaded HOTS today and booted it up to give it another go. It’s been years and I’ve gotten bit slower with my reaction time haha 😅.
How dare you remind me to stretch my aging body...fine ill do it.
27:32
THAT'S WHAT I'M SAAAAAAYIN'
When I saw that three-fingered hand, I subscribed immediately.
Turning team chat off will change your Heroes of the Storm experience in an incredible way. Been playing since 2016. Great video!
I played after day 1 relase and after 2 weeks I turned the chat off, the best thing in a MOBA.
Everyone going aram mid cause it gives priority for rotation, when you push minion wave first you free to rotate first and gank. And even on 2 lanes map you go mid to make sure enemy can't surprize you with pushing one lane early.
Been gaming this for a few months since league shit itself hard. Games sick
The tilt days really frustrate, knowing when to quit really is good advice.
I would love an in depth guide of every role so I know what my job is supposed to be
Thank you. I’ve been playing HOTS since the beta, and it’s just so refreshing seeing such good content still being made 🙏🏻
This is amazing of you for helping out also attracting more people , I started playing a like almost a year ago eh my first interaction was horrible had someone message me to kms, I was like yikes , so seeing this to help out newcomers is very nice im still a scrub I feel like when I play it lol
Excellent vid! You forgot to mention that LiLi and Murky are the two best heroes in the game, so play them! Other that that, flawless!
and now I dont have to subscribe to Fan's Patreon. Thanks Fox!
Mute player and mute player pings are great option if a payer gets to toxic. And never give up, any team can make a come back no matter how bad the situation gets, I have3 played over 12,000 matches in this game.
Best compact guide I've seen so far. TY!
Just commenting for the algo.
FINALLY A GUIDE THATS NOT MADE 8 YEARS AGOOO ♥♥♥♥♥ (i love you)
Just in time for the return of Brawl! This game is so fun.
Coming back to the game after a few years, I needed this
I thought this game was dead. My friend told me that they jump on all the time. Time to step back in!
Level 4700, (main account) main long ago 999'd ....999'in "GURL GAL", CASSIE and Dva..and i thoughly enjoyed this video. I hope whoever has left the hots team start another moba. They were seriously onto something in its peak days! I still play casually.
11:11
This is true for most damage, not sure if there are any other exceptions but.. Deathwing Cataclysm DoT does not draw Fort/Keep aggro, only the initial hit when Deathwing impacts with Cataclysm does.
By the way, catapults granting only 1exp was changed a couple weeks back; now they grant normal minion exp
the moba where I shined the most, and there's a 101 guide on it
I guess I'll reinstall it one day when I get some more storage
Good video, thanks! I recently tried HotS (because I was trying to avoid a LoL relapse) and vs AI has been fun but I felt like I needed some real Knowledge to join real games, so thank you! Informative and entertaining, nice work!
bump up the algorithmmmmmm
beansssss
Amazing guide! Very informative! But no Maiev on melee assassins and no Stukov on healers. 0/10
we really dont need new players trying Maiev before they know how the game works
@ There’s no incentive to play any hero here. It’s merely a joke. Thought it was obvious but I guess it wasn’t, ggs.
Made me chuckle as I was prepping some salmon for dinner lol, informative and entertaining!
Hanamura = Garbage lol
I love your sense of humour :D
EDIT: During 1-4-0 split actually the 4-man should most of the time rotate between two lanes. Solo-laners can do that only if they're fast at clearing waves.
im an old player but i had to watch this because of the editing
very thorogh, couple things what im sure was an oversight since there is a lot of information here in a compact format
1 - 1 catapult spawn every 2nd wave after a fort is destroyed, every wave when a keep is destoryed
2 - minions and mercs scale with level, buildings are npt, except the shield on core
3 - your question, im sure capping mercs while behind on level doesnt give bonus xp, but i assume it might give different xp levels based on level and passive xp gain
4 - buy the minimap dlc
5 - seroiusly buy the minimap and learn to use it
6 - edit, those 7 people who downvoted the video, block them

I wheezed so hard when i saw garbage. you earned a sub
Azmodan Hit points -very High (he needs a diet)/ Crowd control - none existent/ Fight or Flight - Very Long range coward, short legs big hit box, hopes to tank the damage, no built in escape/ PVE - Natural habitat, pushes till someone boots up diablo 3 to stop him.
thank you for good info and quality meemes. Now i will go and purge with my new bought Imperius.
One setting I wish they would add/have added was swapping the map to the left side of the screen
great video - played for a long time and still learned new things!
I hit a gold mine of content. I've watched all the heroes guidline and I would like to demand a genji or a aba guidline.
Great video, love the style you present this epic game!
Very good video! Showed it to a friend and she will may play the game. :)
Great guide Fox =D
Nice. I'm trying out HotS after playing LoL for a year or two like 10 years ago. Not loving the hero designs so far but pretty much every gameplay difference is a win in my book. Kind of intimidating though, not having a lane to stick to.
Underrated creator. Thank you for continuing to make HoTS videos!
Super helpful as a new player thank you!
love ur vids pls keep em coming! im new to the game but loving it and ur helping me!
Thank you 😎👍
Thanks for finding the L key, the camera follow option is only in the main menu, if you try and find it whilst in a battle you can't. and I swear someone has wreck my battles unfairly because they've updated the game or something and they changed my fracking setting.
Yet another EPIC video, thanks!
I'd add that it's in general a bad idea to pick full teamfights if you are a talent down not just if it's lvl 9 vs lvl 10 even though this is the worst case scenario.
Most heroes have a big power spike on lvl 16.
In 9 out of 10 cases they will wipe the floor with you if you pick a fight 15 vs 16
Found this video very helpful, was too late to the chat I guess, just went 4 and 7 in my first night playing non bot matches and just got destroyed in my whispers a few times😭 but thanks hopefully can do well enough to not get bullied after the games😂
"forts have true sight"
Good to know! Its not like I've been playing 5 years....
This helped a lot thanks
Healing fountains are destructible but for some reason can only be destroyed by destroying the fort or keep.
What sucks the most is being from EU and knowing you won't match with Fox :')
thank you mate for this informative video.
Love your hots content ❤
Any WhiteMane mains?
