What a nice little camera the OM-10 is! My grandpa just gave me his OM-10, and I didn't know a thing about film cameras at all, but this camera is making me fall in love with photography. Nice vid mate!
Thanks mate. Yes, this film looks better at night, at least what I shot on this roll. As a film purist I’ve resisted touching that bus image. I want to bring the highlights down a bit.
You’re welcome. I too prefer the night shots. However, with some careful planning and perfect light I think daylight could work well stylistically on this film. One day I’ll try it!
I just watched this video and the one about the OM10 with Portra 800. I like the way you do this videos a lot. Just got back to film photography some weeks ago after years of not touching my analogue cameras and doing very little photography at all. And I'm absolutely back in love.
Thanks for your kind words. Analogue does have that effect doesn’t it! It’s just so involving and rewarding. Hope to see you back on the channel again soon and have fun with your film photography!
It is so hard to color grade this particular film. It took me really long to find the perfect settings. I'm also glad you liked my post on r/analog so I could find your channel ;-)
Hey matt, until now I can’t choose whether to buy olympus om10 or Ae-1 program.. Can you enlighten me which one is better for a beginner photography like me and your video its great! Lovely!
Hi Basir. Thanks for the question. I wouldn't recommend against either camera. Both are great for beginners. Here’s a couple of points for your consideration: - My OM-10 feels a little more fragile when compared with the AE-1, which feels more solid. - Being more solid makes it heavier though, so the Olympus wins on practicality & versatility. - Canon made more of these cameras so there’s more hardware/spare parts/lens & accessories available. - I can’t say either is better optically, I’d have to do a proper test for that. The 50mm Zuiko lens for the OM10 is lovely, as is the Canon’s. - To use manual shutter speeds on the OM10 you have to buy a separate adapter. - Both are beautifully designed cameras in my opinion. Just a couple of points to think about. Without knowing exactly what you intend to shoot it’s difficult to make a recommendation. What I can say though, is that whichever camera you choose I’m sure you will love shooting film & maybe end up buying both like me! Good luck.
Lovely video! I love the magic in the night shots. I have an olympus om-10 too but I've been taking day shots. Did you use a flash for the night shots or were the images taken without flash? Thanks 😊
I thoroughly enjoyed this video, mate! I noticed that you were using a 28mm on the 3rd part of the video, did you use the same lens for the other two parts as well?
Hey, thanks a lot for the kind words. For the first part, in Cardiff, I used the 50mm and then the final 2 parts were made with the 28mm. Both good lenses for this camera and can be found for decent prices online. Cheers.
@@MattJNeale Thanks for clearing that up, man. I recently got a 28mm to add to my 35-70mm and 75-150mm collection so this vid also gave me an idea of what to shoot and ways to shoot things with certain lenses.
You can't find Cinestill here in Brazil, so I bought one roll from B&H NY and I'll will pay 100% of taxes when he arrives here lol but I'm still looking forward to use it in my Olympus OM-1.
Damn that sucks! To be honest it’s been getting harder and harder to source certain film stocks here in the UK too. I think it’s a mix of the pandemic disrupting supply chains and increased demand. Hopefully things will be more stable in future. Hope the OM-1 is good to you!
Guilty - analog fetish! Well put together video btw good see how 800T works under different situations. I've yet to dabble with Cinestill myself. If you've got that fetish for film too, I've plenty of stuff on my channel too :-)
Hello there! I was planning to go to Japan in 2020 but unfortunately the pandemic put a stop to that. Perhaps in 21/22 I can visit, it's top of my list :)
Nice video! What aperture did you mostly use for night photography? I just started shooting a roll since yesterday, and would like to know how far I can push my OM10 with this roll at night. This was very helpful already!
Thanks Steven. I believe I most shot at 1.8 but possibly up to 2.8 for night - on the Zuiko 50mm. I still needed quite a bit of light though and most were shot at 1/30 - 1/60s I believe. Hope it helps and good luck, have fun!
also how do you handle situations when the light meter tells you to use longer shutter speeds like 1/8, 1/4 sec. which is really tough or impossible to get sharp by shooting from hands?
I didn't use a tripod at all for this shoot, it's something I will do next time though. If you have to use longer shutter speeds then it is probably best to go with a tripod. If you don't have one you can use a wall / flat stationary object or if you really want to try those speeds handheld then bring the camera as close to your body as possible, hold your breath and say your prayers! You may end up with something abstract which could be cool. It's worth taking some time to experiment. Good luck!
If you’re close to the light source or it’s bright you should be able to get something. Failing that you can always push the film +1, +2, +3 stops so you can shoot faster shutters. Cinestill themselves say ‘Treat this film as a high speed 800 ISO film for C-41 processing and push process whenever needed up to 3200 ISO.’

Thanks bud. That’s a wonderful hand me down you got there, lucky you + props to your Grandpa!
Watched the whole thingg 🔥 I cant wait to get my roll developed! I love that reddish tones the cinestill gives to the highlights!!
It seems that exposing more for the darks and shadows would help with underexposer on some of the shots.
Love the video man! Have been lucking forward to this one :) really love the night time photos, particularly the bus from the side.

Olympus om10 👊 yay!
Thanks. I liked how the night shots came out. Daylight definitely produces a different atmosphere.

Well done brother. Proud of you as always. Thanks for the mention 😉

very atmospheric video, loved it!!!
Glad you enjoyed it :)
these shots are so alives...
Great video! I’m thinking about purchasing this camera.
Nice video - I really love the shot at 4:14

Love the vid, would have liked to see it higher than 360p tho

Hi and thank you! I didn’t use a flash, in fact I never usually do. All the night images were taken handheld this time.
@@MattJNeale thanks for your reply Matt. Have a lovely day 😊
Did you shoot on manual mode during the night?
Yep, always manual mode

Are these the raw results or did you photoshop them?
I had the film developed and scanned by a lab. No photoshop or editing at all on my end
