    1988,.. So many great games came out in 1988,.. A focus on 1988 might be really interesting also,.. I think I went Amiga in 1989,.. Maybe 1990,... C64 was still very popular in 88. A lot of my favs, 88,88,88,88... Cheers! 🎃

      Great to hear from your Rhys, I see you've recently pushed out a new video on Axiom Fantastica, hopefully you're happy with the progress you're making on it.
      I am sure that an episode on the 80s era will bring back far more nostalgic memories but the 90s era is more of an interest to me as (like many of us) I had moved on to DOS gaming, so I am thinking that these games will be as new to them as it is to me even though they are over 30 years old.

    For the work your channel puts into these Commodore 64 Round Ups, you should have 4.5 million views not 4,500. Be that as it may, I appreciate the attention to detail that goes into all of these, thank you.

    • @RetroGamerNation
      @RetroGamerNation 12 дней назад +1

      The channel viewership is very consistent and is decent for the niche genre but I have not really been able to grow views and have never had any that have gone beyond 25K, no idea why when I look at my peers who do have the occasional big hit every now and then. I am a bit disappointed with how the 90s round up editions have underperformed, maybe I might have one more go at it later on in the year...we'll see.

    Midnight resistance was a top game and an excellent conversion. Even better on the Amiga, which was almost an identical arcade port. Kings Bounty i played to death on the Amiga and i didnt know it was on the C64 till years later. It is an example of a master designer, who went on to make the heroes franchise.

      Thanks for your input - totally agree on King's Bounty, in fact it is one of the main reasons why it took me so long to get this second 90s episode out. I just had to play through it as much as I could to see how things progressed.

    I had MIDNIGHT RESISTANCE for my
    Commodore 64 (tape) and Amiga 500.
    The Commodore 64 version of this game is not a bad conversion,
    but i rather play the Amiga version for
    one good reason: 2-player mode with
    a friend 🐱👍🕹️🕹️.
    CLIVE BARKER'S NIGHTBREED is OK as
    The Action Game, but i like mostly
    The Interactive Movie version of this game - and especially on the Amiga 500.
    The Interactive Movie reminds me of the Cinemaware games.
    I had SUPER OFF-ROAD for my
    Commodore 64 (disk) and Amiga 500.
    Both conversions are absolutely brilliant 😺👍🕹️.
    RICK DANGEROUS II is OK -
    RICK DANGEROUS is the best 😺👍🕹️.
    And on the Amiga version of this game...
    WAAAAAAAAAH 😹🤘!
    This channel deserves a big retrospective like 👍🕹️
    from Vantaa, Finland 🇫🇮.

    i think you are right about super off road ivan - just too jumpy........
    the main character in midn res is very pleasing on the eye, and has a big range of actions - a quality title
    norman golf looks best playing on something like turbo chameleon that would redraw 20 times faster to get any pleasure out of it - i will try that as it looks good otherwise.
    enjoyable viewing and well done - a good series for sure, as so many moved over to amiga and often great gameplay was lost in this era for us, so any gems are still worth playing

      @@RetroGamerNation no, it's fair enough. There's times I found it frustrating when you bounce around a lot. But to cram it all into a single load, with the music, presentation screens and courses that accurately matched the arcade was good work from Graftgold. Three human players at once, too.

      I would like to think that I can make at least 20 episodes before the frequency of new games reviewed in Commodore Format start to go down. But this also depends on RGN's future beyond 2023. I will see how I feel about everything after Christmas before I decide what I will do for 2024.

      @@RetroGamerNation If you count original budget titles like Arnie, Steg the Slug, Slicks, etc., there's enough content until late 1992, and maybe even early 1993, provided of course you feel like doing it.

    The video title is misleading. From Wikipedia: "The 1990s was a decade that began on January 1, 1990, and ended on December 31, 1999."

      Interesting interpretation. Technically you’re right but within the context that this is intended as a series of episodes (at some point I need to get around to episode 3) the title is valid.

    I bought Midnight Resistance on tape back then....great game. Night Breed, great movie, but there are 2 games for it, and the "action" one sucks on all platforms. The adventure one is much better (i remember the amiga version). Brings back alot of memories... wings of fury, another classic, spend hours with that one. Nr. 4 on that classics 90s list chart, Vendetta, that was ahead of its time for a 8bit title.. i know its system 3 and their last ninja engine, but with that title, back then, it was like what GTA5 is for kids today (at least to me), it felt huge with a story. Annnnnd Super Off Road ... that one, is an ALLTIME CLASSIC... one of the best multiplayer games ever. U need to get used to the controls, its a cool game. So is Rick Dangerous 2 ... so many memories, it was an awesome time of videogames. Much more creativity in one year than you see these days in 5 years.

    • @RetroGamerNation
      @RetroGamerNation 10 месяцев назад

      Sounds like you have great memories of most the titles featured. I don't think I gave most of these a proper chance back in the day so its been an interesting process going through the 90s titles.

  • @DavidGolder

    Where are the glitches in Midnight Resistance? Haven't seen any. Maybe you played a bad crack?
    I don't think the update in Greg Norman's is that much slower than in the Leaderboard games, although indeed it's annoying that it's redone each time a menu pops up.
    Imo Rick Dangerous 2 was better than the first game. The recipe might be the same, but the playability got better. I barely got through the first level in 1 and then quit in frustration, whereas in 2 I made it all the way to level 4.
    Btw, where is Snow Strike, also reviewed this issue? Likewise, where are Puffy's Saga and Mean Streets in the first video?

    • @RetroGamerNation
      @RetroGamerNation 10 месяцев назад +1

      Bad crack of Midnight Resistance? Could well be. Glitches were experienced in the large buzz saw section and a couple of the mini boss fights.
      As for the missing games, they didn’t make the cut. It is not intended to cover all the games reviewed in every issue of CF. I set a limit in the amount of time that i am willing to invest to each episode and stick to it. Iron Lord took up a lot of time in episode 1, while Kings Bounty absorbed way too much time for this one.
