I just came to ask this too. Have you ever retaught one? I have a 7 and 3 year old, so Once I start doing science, I’m going to start holding on to them. I do like how you just have one science binder. I have several units that I have gotten so far, and have so many binders on the shelf.
Hi! Depending on the state or “umbrella school” you use (if you do), you might need to hold on to it for a few years just in case they audit you. The umbrella school I use, picks a few families a year (randomly) to “audit”. They simply look at the folders to make sure your kid is actually working and learning. Since they have not much saying on what curriculum you pick but their name is in all “official state documents” they make sure all their homeschool families are indeed homeschooling. But then again, I am in Florida, things might be different here.
Thank you for another great video! What paper do you use to print the units? I just got this printer and I printed 100 pages but it wasted a lot more ink than I thought and I suspect it’s because I’m printing on 28 lb paper that’s not specifically primed for an inkjet printer.
Our first science unit was mammals and we are almost done but I can tell you that all the work to get it together is daunting. I know I've only done one, but I hated hole punching, organizing, photocopying and cutting. I didn't even cut or do all the activities or vocab words because I was so overwhelmed. I read somewhere someone took the time to laminate several things like pictures but I couldn't so I just put some in page protectors. Either way, I love the units so far, and I would most likely buy another and not worry so much. I do appreciate these videos!
Thank you for sharing about your printer! At the time you made this video I didn’t need this info but our printer broke (it was super old and beyond repair at this point) a couple months ago and I had this video in the back of my mind and I think we are going to go with this printer. Excited not to deal with ink cartridges! So, thanks for sharing such useful, practical information as always!
We started this unit Monday and my kids are enjoying it. The book pack is so worth it. Sometimes we don’t use every book but this time we will my 9 year son is enjoying reading about the unique reptiles. We kinda organize ours the same way too I prep twice a year for science and history and put both units in one larger binder and put all the pages my kids need in their science and history binders so it’s already to go. I love that we get a PDF of the science unit when you buy the hard copy so then I can just print them all at once’s and not have to stand at my printer for ever. Have to love ecotank
We just finished this unit last week. It was a fun one. I can't imagine homeschooling without my Epson. It's by far the best printer!. We organize our science units in a similar fashion, although I prefer to put all of my pages in page protectors versus hole punching. I use dividers with pockets to put all my supplies (laminated vocab words, mini books, copied w.s. for each child) for each unit. Then I copy the cover for each child's science notebook as well. TGTB science is awesome!
Hi, I was wondering if you had an order reference that you recommended doing the science units? I bought them all. Loved them, but now I’m stumped as to what to teach first and if there are any that go better together, back to back. Thank you 😊
Any chance you’ll be doing an updated science unit ranking video soon??? I’d love to see how your units from this school year fit in. I think it would also be great to see a video on how the units rank as far as what ages they’re better for (in your opinion). A youngest to oldest type of thing would be wonderful. This unit looks so fun!
I watched your previous science lesson prep and have been doing it that way ever since! Thank you for helping me set everything up so my science lessons flow so smoothly!
What do you do with the old science unit that you pull out (geology in this case)? Do you save and store them somehow along with the worksheets your kids do or do you toss the whole thing?
I'm not sure what Ashlee does, but I file each unit in a file folder in case we want to do it again someday. The consumable pages the kids fill out are punched and stored in a binder for each kid with all their other work for the year and then in the summer I go through and keep the best work samples and bind them into a book using a binding machine as a keepsake for their schoolyear!
New homeschooler here…we are doing the space science with my 11 yr old and 7 yr old. I plan on holding onto everything and maybe doing that unit again in a couple of years or when the desire to “do space” strikes us.
Hi, at what age did you start to teach your kids to read and what methods or curriculum did you use or could recommend? My daughter is 4.5 and she’s learning letter recognition both upper and lower case. Hasn’t really picked up on the letter sounds yet. I try and say them to her as much as I can and she’s listened to some RUclips videos on letter sounds but that’s about it. My 10 and 11 year old boys learned how to read in public school. So this is new to me.
We tried out a science unit from TGATB for the first time this year and we really enjoyed it! I’m considering switching completely for next year but I was wondering if you feel that using only TGATB for science prepared you kids for upper middle school/ high school science?
Yes the EcoTank is a must. I printed almost 20,000 pages on mine and only refilled it twice. It is such a great price so the amount of printing you can do with it! Thanks for showing how you prep your science unit. I will have to make some tweaks to ours. You had some great ideas
I had seen this printer a lot in videos, but you buying it last year (or so) is what ultimately made me buy the printer. I knew if you were buying it, it must be worth it lol
Thanks for the awesome video! Did anyone else think the grill cover I think it is look like a creeper peaking in the window tho?? Scared me for a minute! 🤣🤣
I organize our science units similarly. I use plastic page protectors instead of the plastic folders so my binder isn’t as bulky. But getting the entire unit prepped before starting is such a game-changer! It reminds me of my public school teaching days. 😁 And I can also shout out about the Epson printer. It has saved us money in the long run bc the ink lasts sooooo much longer than the cartridges we used to have buy all the time. My boys are excited about the reptile unit, but they have to wait until next year bc we just started the Birds unit - and it’s awesome! The beauty in the unit is top-notch!! TGAB for the win again!
I purchased those folders after watching one of your videos and I absolutely love how much easier it makes everything for me. I put everything (vocab. words, student sheets, mini books, etc) for each lesson in the folders and it’s just grab and go. Thanks for sharing. This school year we’ve only completed the Space unit and my kids loved it. Our next unit is Ecosystems.
Yes, Epson ecotanks are so so worth it! I’ve refilled my tanks multiple times but I’ve been using it for 3 years and I print most of my curriculum at home, tens of thousands of pages.
❤️❤️ I have the same printer and printing THTB it comes out so dull for me. What program do you print with? What kind of paper are you using? Thank you so much for the video so much !!!!
I love TGTB but I really struggled with their science. I am really inspired by the way you set those up. I think that would make a difference taking a day to do all the printing and cutting. I was doing it the day before (sometimes the morning of) and it got really cumbersome. I think I might give them another chance. Where can I find those binder envelopes?
Thanks for sharing! I started prepping my units ahead of time this year and the first one took me forever but I also laminated things too 🤷♀️ Can't wait to pick up a few tips from the video👍👍
What do you do with your used Science Units? Do you keep them, sell them, give them away, or just toss them? I never know what to do with them once we finish.
I'm actually going to do the Mammal unit study with my 14 year old daughter along with her 3 younger sisters. She's bored out of her mind with Physical Science. I know she'll love this one. The Reptile one looks amazing too!
We do four each year. I could easily fit in a 5th to be honest. We do Science twice a week (1 lesson each day, although sometimes I combine two if it makes sense). We've done Marine Biology, Arthropods, Amphibians/Reptiles/Fish, and now we're starting Mammals. I'm guessing we'll have time for either Kingdoms and Classifications or Birds at the end of the year. My kids are 11 & 13...with younger kiddos, it would be slower.
My daughter is DYING to do the Human Body unit! Any idea when it is expected to be finished? We finished Mammals in January. This one looks great! I tried to organize Mammals like you do your units. Worked well for us! ❤️
I love TGTB science!! We are finishing up Water and Our World. My husband has taken over science once a week and he feels the lessons are too long for 2nd & K students. He wants to get something simpler next year, but I really would prefer to stick with them. Does anyone have suggestions for how to use them better with younger students?
I love this! Can't wait to try your way of organizing. I am just reading through the lessons with Marine Biology lol keeping it simple over here. Thank you for sharing on how to do it for our next unit! Thank you Ashlee!
Something that’s helped me is to put the vocabulary words in the folder with the chapter they belong to-that way I don’t have to hunt through the stack. We are excited for this unit as well. I’m debating on switching it out for geology, which is supposed to come next. It’s hard changing my original plans for some reason 😅
Do you save your unit after you’ve completed them or do you throw it out?
We recycle unless I plan to repeat, or have a friend who’d like it!
I just came to ask this too. Have you ever retaught one? I have a 7 and 3 year old, so Once I start doing science, I’m going to start holding on to them. I do like how you just have one science binder. I have several units that I have gotten so far, and have so many binders on the shelf.

This unit looks really good! I really like how you organized the unit :)
Thank you!

🙌 yes
I would like this too.
You said it was 10:00 when you started, what time did you finish? Or how long did it take you to prepare everything start to finish in real time?
I watched your previous science lesson prep and have been doing it that way ever since! Thank you for helping me set everything up so my science lessons flow so smoothly!
What paper weight do you recommend to print on and have you ever had any problems with the ink bleeding through ?
I really like your prep videos. Thanks for sharing. Happy homeschooling.
Love how you organize this. So smart and easy way to grab and go. 👏❤️
What do you do with the old science unit that you pull out (geology in this case)? Do you save and store them somehow along with the worksheets your kids do or do you toss the whole thing?
I have the same question.
I came to ask that same question.

Do you have a link to your hole puncher? I'm looking for a good one that will punch multiple pages.
Currently doing the Himan Body unit with our kiddos ❤ I love how easy TGTB makes teaching science to our Littles

Just curious - when you do a science unit do you do a lesson every day, once a week, twice a week? Just curious what your method is.
I had seen this printer a lot in videos, but you buying it last year (or so) is what ultimately made me buy the printer. I knew if you were buying it, it must be worth it lol
We got the Epson a few months ago and a laminator. Definitely has paid for itself!
Thanks for the awesome video! Did anyone else think the grill cover I think it is look like a creeper peaking in the window tho?? Scared me for a minute! 🤣🤣

Yay! Can’t wait for birds!
Page protectors! I put mine in envelopes and it's not working. Thanks for the tip!
How do you store your science units long term? Do they stay in a 3-ring binder once you've finished them?
I purchased those folders after watching one of your videos and I absolutely love how much easier it makes everything for me. I put everything (vocab. words, student sheets, mini books, etc) for each lesson in the folders and it’s just grab and go. Thanks for sharing. Tgatb doesn’t have a highschool science currently , correct?
Following......
We’re doing this unit right now!! My kids love it!!!
We are almost finished with this unit!! It’s our new favorite!
Love it! I would love to see how your kids science journals look! Or do you even do them?
Yes, Epson ecotanks are so so worth it! I’ve refilled my tanks multiple times but I’ve been using it for 3 years and I print most of my curriculum at home, tens of thousands of pages.
I LOVE that curriculum, looks like what I need, but I'm not from USA and english is not my language .love your videos :)
When do you do science? During morning basket?
We are currently doing Beginning Chemistry, it's going good. I can't believe you are at almost 50k subscribers! Woohoo!!
We just got our Mammals unit study today. So exciting. I always love the beautiful pictures🤗
This is on our list for next year along with birds!
❤️❤️ I have the same printer and printing THTB it comes out so dull for me. What program do you print with? What kind of paper are you using?
Thank you so much for the video so much !!!!

Ashley do you save these units for repeating down the road with your younger kids or do you use it as a one and done unit study?
Love that ring 💍!! Your grill cover looks like someone is peeking in your door at you lol I love preparing curriculum, so satisfying! 👍
Hahaha it does 🤣🤣
I thought the same thing about the grill cover. I held my breath for a second and then thought “oh it’s just a grill!”
Thanks for sharing! I started prepping my units ahead of time this year and the first one took me forever but I also laminated things too 🤷♀️
Can't wait to pick up a few tips from the video👍👍

My kids would love this unit. I’m going to have to do some rearranging and fit this one in!!
About how long does it take to complete 1 science unit? I think I remember you saying y'all do 3 units per year?
We do four each year. I could easily fit in a 5th to be honest. We do Science twice a week (1 lesson each day, although sometimes I combine two if it makes sense). We finished Mammals in January. This one looks great! I tried to organize Mammals like you do your units. Worked well for us! ❤️
This unit looks amazing! My little guy would be 100% into this. Haha! 😀
The only curriculum I’ve tried from TGTB are their science units and LOVE them. May need to try their new Language Arts when it comes out.
I love TGTB science!! We are finishing up Water and Our World. My husband has taken over science once a week and he feels the lessons are too long for 2nd & K students. He wants to get something simpler next year, but I really would prefer to stick with them. Does anyone have suggestions for how to use them better with younger students?
I’m looking for a link to those folders! I’m not crazy about the colors of the ones I bought for our mammals unit. Yours are way cuter!
I love this! Can't wait to try your way of organizing. I am just reading through the lessons with Marine Biology lol keeping it simple over here. Thank you for sharing on how to do it for our next unit! Thank you Ashlee!
FYI, you forgot to put the link to the science unit.
You convinced me to buy those folders in a different video. I make the kids help me with all the cutting and call it cutting practice lol.
