This version completely gets the build at the end. Seymour's your who? Your MAN! The orchestra and the singers tell that story so well during that last bit of phrasing. WELL DONE.
Little Shop of Horrors - Hunter Foster and Alice Ripley (Full Show) - Bootlegs Little Shop of Horrors - Florida. June 5, 2003. Hunter Foster as Seymour Krelborn, Alice Ripley as Audrey, Lee Wilkof as Mr. Mushnik, Reg Rogers as Orin Scrivello, D.D.S., Billy Porter as Audrey II, Dioni Michelle Collins as Crystal, Haneefah Wood as Ronnette, Moeisha McGill as Chiffon.
Thanks, elphbwckd! I’m happy to see that his name has been added to the title in the intervening 5 years, and to have a reason to rewatch this charming clip.
I am so happy I was able to see this performance more than once. Incredible. It was a shame when they announced Kerry would be taking the show to Broadway.
I was lucky to see it as well as the version that ended up on Broadway. Alice brought so much heart into this role without making it a cartoony caricature, and she somehow made it her own while paying homage to Ellen Greene. Butler was simply wrong for the role.
Alice has much more of what Audrey calls for than Kerry Butler. While Butler is a fantastic comic actress and ingenue, Audrey requires pathos. She’s a gal with a past. Though most of the blame falls onto the replacement director who did not understand the material. So glad we have Ripley’s Audrey preserved. She’s in phenomenal voice here. Tho the most mesmerizing Audrey I’ve ever seen was Tammy Blanchard *smokebomb*
Recasting Kerry Butler over Alice is why this show failed on Broadway and didn't last. THIS is the Audrey that this show needs. Kerry is talented, but doesn't hold a candle to Alice in pure, raw emotion and voice.
@@jlongsho played well because of the names, but as far as bway asked it was failed and didn't run for long. Butler was a main reason that the critics did not like the revival.
As much as I love Kerry, Alice was a much better Audrey. She pays homage (perhaps too readily) to Ellen Greene but manages to do her own thing (just about) whereas Kerry was just... bland.
Which is exactly what this show and character need. It's basically a musical parody in many ways. I'd take Alive 'overdoing' it then Kerry's completely bland take on the character. Alice gave it a character. Kerry was just 😴😴💤💤💤
Ripley potrayed the original character. Maybe too closely, but the character. Kerry (my favorite person in the world) did some other character that could not credibly have the experiences and emotions of Audrey and it was nit good. Kerry cannot be Ellen Green, of course. Her voice is higher, she is tiny, looks cute mire than tragic. But really, I blame the director because Kerry is a BRILLIANT comic actress (from Brooklyn) who can play goofy so they could have crafted a usable take on Audrey.
I can't believe they replaced Alice with bland, boring, cookie cutter Kerry Butler for the Broadway run. What a huge mistake. I've never liked Kerry in this role at all and now to see this it makes me even more mad she was given the role.
Interesting you saw her in Miss Saigon since she has NEVER appeared in that show in any incarnation. You are a troll, nothing more. Can't even spell her name correctly.

Anybody got any of Billy Porter from this production? I’ve been looking for YEARS

Do you have the whole bootleg?
There was a video of the full show but it was either unlisted or parvited
Alice Ripley is phenomenal.
I needed this
pure magic!
Hunter Foster ( Urinetown, Bridges of Madison County) as Seymour
Duh....

Do you have more of these? What about the full musical of these?
I love her so much

It played Broadway and was Tony nominated for best revival! It did not fail, the cast album sold well!

Why was she fired 🥲

Did she take over for Kerry Butler
hillary stone Alice played Audrey pre broadway in the Florida tryout
She was then fired and Kerry took over. SAD!
@@garylife5320 huge mistake. Kerry was awful in this role. Alice is exactly what I expect from an Audrey.
Sorry, I'm Team Kerry on this one. Alice Ripley sounds amazing but it's really overdoing it.

Why does RUclips allow illegal videos to be posted?
Saw Rippley in Miss Saigon. Boring. Saw here in next to normal. Boring. And well she’s boring and mundane
