This was Cub Scout stuff I learned 65 years ago, using different cans and making stoves using 'over cans'. We also made personal heaters using band-aid cans(when they were metal), and they had a lid to extinguish them. Can+cardboard+paraffin+imagination=all kinds of really neat stuff.
Used to make these 30 years ago when I was a teen. Nice flame, lots of soot, but work great!! Also, great for getting a camp fire going if you have damp wood. Takes me back to the "Good 'ol days" .
i found a cool way to create larger flames by making the cardboard look more like a spike coming out. I pour melted wax into mine. also i stuff match heads all over or in patterns. I light mine laying sideways if the flat normal ones. squirt some oils from any of your fav woods, smells great
Hello there good idea I use these all the time Love my with my hobo stove in the rain turn the can up side dow n to cook on last about 45min. I use shoe lasses don't poorwater on them will explode into . Two thumbs up
Great video :) I heard from a fire marshall that no more than 5 candles should be burnt at one time inside a regular sized living room as wax can give of carbon monoxide gas. This might build up quite fast inside a tent. Be safe and super tutorial :) Love the altoid tin idea :)
Just an FYI for you .. the large sized canning lids fit on those tuna and cat food cans and you can find plastic canning lids that weigh less if you look around. I have some of them I use. :)
How did they perform indoors? I've heard that lots of the cheaper candles have things in the wax that aren't good for you to inhale as the candles burn , esp. bad for concentrating in the air of a tent. This is a new concept to me- using the cardboard strips with the wax. Why do that instead of just making small can candle stoves? Stability, so it's not sloshing around? Just curious. And does the cardboard create soot or smoke? Thanks...

THE BOY SCOUT SAID MAKE IT A BIT OVER , THE CARDBOARD AND WHEN UR DONE SHAKE IT OUT FLIP IT, BY PUTTING BURNED SIDE IN FIRST, NO MESS, IT TIGHT AND HE USED NO WICKS! OLD BURNED CANDLES, HE LEARN AS A KID SCOUT AND STILL USES IT TODAY! AS EMERGENCY HEAT, QUICK CUP OF WATER, AND SOME COOKING WITH HOBO STOVE, IF U KNOW KNOW TO MAKE THOSE, VERY EASY.. I LK THIS EASY OF HEAT DOWN THE WAX! THX
im going to get back to burning one, i shot some video , but lost most of it. ill have to redo it.. Also i had a request for citronella candle .. they wanted me to melt a big candle down into smaller ones... to spread around for better use
I was an U.S. Army helicopter pilot in Vietnam in '69&'70 and we used to make "survival" stoves all the time! (view the following): https(semi-colon)//dl.dropboxusercontent/u/10471230/C-Ration%Stove(dot)jpg All you have to do is carry a solution of 3 parts alcohol and 1 part cooking oil to use as the fuel instead of the JP-4 that we used. Also, loosely compact the dirt and/or sand, not too tightly, that you put in the bottom of the "stove". It burns very hot and lasts for quite a while!! Dirt & sand is cheap and everywhere!
go to the pet store and buy a roll of Palm strap. it's all natural I use it for my parakeets they play and chew on it. burns great and you get a nice size roll per pack.
if your using it as a heater wont the wick interfer with the size of the flame. instead of burning all over the can won't the flame be limited to where the wick is.
Someone told me to use bacon grease to saturate the cardboard instead of wax. Has anyone tried that way. Was told it burns just as well with no worries of poisoning from it. Only thing to make sure not to store for a long period of time because the bacon grease could turn rankid and have a smell. Have not made one of these yet but plan on doing so soon.
@@scottrtomlinson Bears are apparently extremely attracted to beeswax too, so don't use the beeswax in bear country. They will smell the wax even before it's butned. Hmmm, wondereing now about burts bees chapstick?

cardboard acts like the wick, but, its a lof of wick, make the whole thing go up... one small wick... hard to cook over that.. this is more for cooking over and not really just light..
Using an open flame inside a tent is dangerous. It could get knocked over and burn everything up, it could damage the tent or other equipment, not to mention the occupants. Fumes inside a tent would be bad, see other comments about the marine who died in his apartment.

Made these 45 yrs ago. Good ideas never change.
Thanks for showing the complete process! I like the Altoids box idea.. a lid does seem desirable.

Thid is the best way to recycle Tuna cans and Pizza boxes !

anything with a flame can give off carbon monoxide.

I had an idea: A toilet roll completely saturated in wax. It could be used as fire fuel, or put on a big stick to use as a torch.
Kind of expensive
and it's comes in a nice roll already
Awesome. Can't wait to try this out
Thank you, coordinated cardboard plastic on the outside
I remember about almost same this one.
since 1978
I went deaf boyscout camp they teach us learn how do that almost same your.
When i was a Boy Scouts we called it a buggy burner and it kept the bugs away with the smoke just a little different then this. But a great iidea
Can spmebody tell me how long that burner last?
That is the easiest way to melt wax. Using the "double boiler" set up.

I use the can as a mold and aluminium paper for the stove. You can charge 10 stove in the bag

torch .... Ohh how the melted wax runs down the handle onto the arm, lol
Fun to see
Thanks.
Can this be used inside your house ???
Dude... make one, i wanna see it
Ótimo 👍👍🇧🇷 Parabéns
If anyone in interested, Ill try to make a video this week on Burning one of these stoves.
length of burn, and how long to boil one cup of water.
Yeah I don't know to what extent that would happen, but assuming it does then we would need a brazier, like a ye-olde torch.
Can't you just light the cardboard?
Pretty cool!
+Will Hornbuckle Thanks !!
Cut the wick to 1/4 inch to avoid smoking.
Agradeço o vídeo! 👍✌
Very resourceful
so...a candle....wow
actually the whole cardboard section acts as a wick, it can be used as a cooking stove, not a candle. but thanks for watching
Can we use rolled up magazine? Or newspaper with color print. Just thinking the fumes might be toxic.
+SuperDeut4 i think cardboard would be more robust
if your using it as a heater wont the wick interfer with the size of the flame. instead of burning all over the can won't the flame be limited to where the wick is.
Awesome!
Crayons don’t attract bears. Bacon fat and dryer lint works like cardboard
Don't get wax on concrete...it's almost impossible to remove. I learned the hard way.

+Darnell Moonda Fugate The smell would be awesome... not so much for bears tho...
+Kraka069 I'm sure bears like the smell of bacon too. :-)

Never ever use this or any open flame inside a tent.

using an open flame inside a tent is dangerous. Nothing to do with Mt. Sinai, everything to do with safety.

death by CO would be bad...
Made these in girl scouts circa 1979.... :)
BEESWAX?? Too expensive. Use old candles. Cheaper.
👍👍🇧🇷👏
I wouldn't burn this inside a small space like a tent.
Bunson burner.
Show it under use!
hobby lobby , i cant remember if it was $9 or $12
Baller
Oh ! No ! Not plaaaastic
OK
