I've been listening to this music since the film came out when I was eight and I only just noticed the kazoo today (April 22, 2020). Thank you, headphones.
I really like the lyrics "Ugly folks, forget your shyness. You could soon be called Your Highness!" because it's obvious Clopin was talking directly to Quasimodo. Whatever happened to Quasi afterwards, I think Clopin just wanted to make sure Quasi enjoyed himself :)
@@micycles1200 well it kinda makes sense. They did find the gypsies' hiding place during that part, so Clopin might've been reacting out of a place of self preservation, not really hatred or anything. He's peobably like "hey man, you're cool and all....but you can't deny your connections to Judge Asshole. So if I have to kill you to save my ass, bye bye Quasi" lol
When I was little, we would listen to one of those Disney's Greatest Hits vol [insert number] and this was on it and even though Hugo's line isn't in the recording, without fail, everyone in the car would say it
This song and whole scene have a sinister and cruel undertone to the revelry and I love it. Hunchback takes flak these days for playing on stereotypes and having a murky message, but it reminds the viewer many people not that long ago (and unfortunately even some still today) treated differences like physical deformities or cultural minorities like the Roma very harshly and unfairly. Disney actually went out on a limb with this one
A dog walking their master? A lobster cooking a bathing chef? A talking sign with a headless horse? A fisher rowing away from a giant fish? I bet the writers had ALOT of fun doing those ideas XD

Baladria Disney marketed the hell out of the Festival of Fools as the festival and the gargoyles were the only parts of the movie that could be used to cleverly disguise this movie as a "fun comedy." Disney definitely didn't want parents to know that Hunchback was a rather dark film dealing with genocide, religion, lust, abuse and prejudice.
Exactly the same? Maybe for the first 20 minutes. But once Rapunzel leaves her tower she goes on a fun, romantic adventure. Quasimodo gets friendzoned and ends up having to save Esmeralda and the Gypsies from genocide.
-4:34 : Ladies and Gentlemen, don't panic! We asked for the ugliest face in Paris and here it is! Quasimodo! The hunchback of Notre-Dame! E-VR'Y-BODYYYYYae!
Even though this isn't my favourite scene, I find myself getting this song stuck in my head a lot. It's quite catchy and well written. I just wish the scene didn't cater to kids as much. But the rest of the film is so mature I can forgive it.
Unlike A Guy Like You, I actually don't think Topsy Turvy is that catering to children. I mean, it's a festival. It's supposed to be more fun and upbeat. I will agree though that the marketing of the movie was overall misleading. Like a good 80 percent of the trailers focused on the Festival of Fools and made the movie look like it would be some kind of romantic comedy.
I agree. Frankly, A Guy like You feels more like a scene/song number that should have been a deleted scene rather than a completed part that they put in the finished movie. It doesn't go with the rest of the film at all. Topsy Turvy at least has a bit of that Medieval, European flair going on with it and still feels like it could be part of that story space. Honestly I don't blame Disney for the way they marketed this film. If they had shown clips from the Hellfire scene or one of the darker moments in general, parents would have found it questionable and wouldn't have allowed their kids to see it. So imagine their faces when they got into the theater and realized what kind of movie this really was. How did they try to explain the themes of religion, racism, lust and genocide to their children? It was probably a very interesting time to be a Disney fan.
uh things can still be fun and not be catered towards children. im pretty sure festivals happened in real gritty stuff like game of thrones and it wasnt to attract kids to the show lol

So weird, this song just made me remember the trailers for this movie...nostalgia alert!

+Jenna Beth so true :3
+Baladria YAS! I remember watching the trailer on the Pocahontas video cassette tapes! I always wanted to watch it so bad but we didn't have the tape!
+JJdaPK I can't believe they got away with a U certificate for this film - if Frozen and Tangled have PG ratings, this definitely should!
I thought the start sounded familiar to the Tangled soundtrack... Alan Menken composed the music of both films.
Dude really has a fascination with manipulative parental figure villain songs I guess
Audrey the cat nerd Not just parental figures, any sort of manipulative villain; he also did “Little Shop Of Horrors.”
Well yes, Alan Menken is THE composer of the 90s Disney Renaissance! So he did more than just Tangled and Hunchback.
Better still, Alan used the same orchestrator for precisely both those projects.
The opening of this song is also the melody in the festival song in Tangled.
Now that I think about it, those stories are almost exactly the same.
A lot of Disney movies are very similar. Like Aladdin and Cinderella.
Exactly the same? Maybe for the first 20 minutes. But once Rapunzel leaves her tower she goes on a fun, romantic adventure. Quasimodo gets friendzoned and ends up having to save Esmeralda and the Gypsies from genocide.
