Lead bloons (metal covered ones) are immune to sharp weapons (such as darts) in official games, while zebra combines the strengths of black (immune to explosions) and white (immune to ice). It's just a question of dev choice to put it actually stronger than zebra bloons.
You should try the other path for the super monkey which is the technological terror. It destroys and annihilates balloons especially the Moab class balloons. It's one of the best paths to take imo as shown by a RUclipsr called tewity.
Its not wise to destroy the red once all at once just destroy one at a time until you kill all the balloons then go after the next one so less balloons to fill the stage
