Thanks for the great detailed videos Andy. I have a GS1000G that I have not ridden for many years with carburetor sync issue but with your videos I feel that I could fix the issues by myself now. Thanks again for all of the great content.
Made it look straight forward Andy. Thanks.
Very timely, thanks Andy, I have my carbs off undergoing a full rebuild at the moment, hopefully, conditional on parts delivery, will all be complete and ready to go back on the bike in a week or so. I do enjoy your video's Andy and look forward to each new episode.
I know it more messing around but just make 4 bowl adaptors for clear tube fuel level test saves time in the long run, you can buy these adaptors for some carbie brands. Also I found checking fuel level with these cabbies in a level position does not work in all cases - try and duplicate the angle they actually really sit on if they were installed on the bike, I found this solved a flooding problem no one could give me the answer too.
I think Andy's Motorcycle videos are fantastic I'm sure they have helped many people.
Nice methodical approach. Never done bench synchronising before and this is great timing as have just got a new (second hand) set of carbs for my ZRX 11 and so will do this when I'm checking the float heights to get a baseline.
old school work love it I was learned these skills by my late grand father who was an mechanic engineer in the borneo jungle during ww2 ......and you need more tools lol
Last week a mate asked me to balance his carbs because his bike was running rough, I asked my usual 1st question, "When did you last check your valve clearances?"
"Never, they don't rattle"
Arghhhh!
😂😂😂
good infomative stuff andy ,keep up the good work,
Great video, plenty of patience needed. Nice work Andy.
I ❤ Carburettors.
A pleasure to watch the old school route with carburettors, even tho I am a bigger fan of FI
Great tip with the guitar string, I didn’t know that, I’ve only ever none them on the bike.
Top work as always Andy, this is a very interesting project in it’s own right, but even better for me as I am stuck in hospital still, keep up the good work mate you are stopping me going completely mad😉
Haven’t they deflated that bloody foot yet?
Andy's Motorcycle Obsessions, no mate, think they asked Del where the valve was to deflate it 😉
I think he is still using it to keep his ego pumped up 😂
Andy's Motorcycle Obsessions 😂
Let there be light...and there wasn’t any, I thought I was going blind.
Yeah I really need to preview my camera setups. Thanks for struggling through.
a little hole drilled in brick for threaded part to sit may have helped, lol
Yeah of course it would have, lol. I also could have just dropped it into a M8 nut. I was shaking my head when I watched it back. I could have edited it out I suppose.
Andyboys garage there for a minute 😂😂😂
Nice job Andy
Great to see a man under pressure and still come out a winner. P.S Andy any chance you could fix de glasses next 👍😆
It’s ironic but I can’t see them to fix them 😕
set mine to 22.4 bought a fuel level gauge gonna check mine when it turns up.i fiund 3 turns out was best, was a real bitch on the choke with less popping and spitting etc now its 99% better on 3 run good on the road too.
I nearly shit myself when I saw you leverage against that pillar you had repaired. I thought to myself if it breaks now, he going to have kittens 😲 Thankfully it didn't and all is well.
That bench testing thingy is not that difficult once you know what to do.

Sorry for the last post ,fat fingers and all that. Still admire your work
long live the gs1000 g clonky gearbox, clutch is a bit snatchy but overall lovely bikes.
Was that a sealy hacksaw blade from delbollocks lol
LOL, it's worse I think. Just some piece of crap I had at home, I do have a good hacksaw...at work :(
When I had Suzuki training, you check the height with the weight of the float just touching the needle. The weight of the float on the needle spring would be balanced... Kinda on a slant..
Yes the needle has a spring loaded pin and it should support the weight of the float without compressing, which these do just fine. If the spring compresses under the weight of the float you need to replace the needle and seat. The problem was the fact that I had not drilled the hole for the float hinge pin square and the float required some manipulation to function properly. Thanks as always mate.
yeah these new floats, made of plastic, no needle springs, they are using the plastic bending to hold the levels..
New? You’re as bad as me mate. They’re 1981 carbs 😂
the type of floats being used.. LOL most of the time you find plastic floats, like in a 500 kaw, year model 2000, are made of plastic, the only way to fix the float height was to replace the needle/seat and floats.. What you have there is what we had back in the 70's to say mid 90's.. I'm sure there are others that kept the old way to setting floats.. But look at it like this, no days, bikes are full of computer aided stuff and when it breaks they replace it.. LOL
I see you have your Chinese motorcycle boots on safety first, Ha
I'm a bit confused on the physics of that plastic tube setup for checking fuel level in the float bowl. I'm probably missing something. As I see it, the height of the fuel level as measured against the carb body, would vary significantly with different internal diameters of tubing, and you didn't specify that a certain diameter was essential. Also, how tight the tube was bent from the bottom of the bowl to the side of the carb would greatly effect the resulting level against the carb body measurement point. Seems like imprecise science at first glance. What am I missing here?
It makes no difference what the tube diameter is or how long it is because gravity. it's just a level indicator.
Tube diameter or angle have zero impact, the fluid finds its own level regardless. The only thing that could impact the result is if the fuel bowl was at a different pressure to atmosphere.
Thanks, but surely, the larger the I.D. of the tube, the lower the fuel level in the tube. The diameter influences the level the fuel will rise to. Consider a 3/8" tube as opposed to a 1/4" I.D. The greater capacity of that length of tube would lower the level it topped out at. Also, the radius of the bend from the bottom of the float bowl should make a difference. If the tube were one foot long for instance, and you didn't bend it tightly, the fuel level will be lower as measured against the carb body. What am I missing? There must be something I'm not grasping here.
No. The tube will level out when the float closes the needle and seat, whether the tube is 1mm id or 1 meter id. The only variable is the volume and therefore the time required to fill, there is no impact on the level as long as the pressure (atmosphere) is equal at both ends.
Thanks, it still doesn't compute in my mind, but I'll try to figure it out. My impasse is: how do you measure against a known point on the carb body, when the fuel level is dependent on the diameter of the tube? In your example above, if your tube was very wide I.D., the fuel level will not be able to reach the measuring point on the carb, no matter how you try to position the tube.
why didnt you drill a hole in the brick for the bolt to sit in , so that it wouldnt wobble like a chod in a piss pot
When is bill making a guest appearance
I’m trying to line that up. The issue is that he lives in Devonport and I am in Hobart, approximately three hours drive away. So we want to bring him in for a milestone video, hopefully when we fire her up.
fuel level gs1000g is 5mm below gaskett face hth.
Any float "ball:"
You know your onions mate top job as always
way too lean u want 3 turns out trust me i know this from experience
boom first
LOL
