    That's how I got my Bacon. It had been topped off really low and was coming back with a ton of vigor. At the time I didn't want a Bacon but it looked so strong it screamed at me to buy it. Now it's one of of the prettiest avocado trees I've seen with nice balanced lateral branches. I think yours is gonna do the same. It looks like you have great soil by the way.

      Congrats on your BACON. I normally pinch to shape and stepped back from hard pruning after several Carmen were slow to comeback. This sunburned one bounced back beautifully hoping for a 4th limb to have one for each cardinal point North,South, East & West. I tell people to break apical dominance to open up the center to keep fruit within reach. Thanks for supporting stay tuned for updates ✌️🥑

    My little cado was a huge disappointment in terms of production. Ellen from epicenter agrees. I finally stumped it after 14yrs. Trying to graft it to a reed.

      Let me know how your grafting goes. I'm sticking underperforming trees with GEM. Thanks for the support stay tuned for updates.✌️🥑

    I definitely cannot use such a high ratio of native soil. Way too much clay present in central N.C. About 1/3 native soil is all it takes, to begin having trouble. But at least I don't have gophers!

    • @831AVO
      @831AVO  9 месяцев назад

      The native was originally clay but under years of native mulch it's breaking down I would press it to try to ribbion it out and it would collapse and crumble like in half inch pieces with the bag of compost free soil I think it should airate better and layer of mulch for the introduction of organic material I'm thinking it should be fine here in zone 9b. Thanks for stopping by ✌️🥑

      El lugar más cercano a ti sería TOPE'S SUSTAINABLE GARDEN CENTER o BOKAY NURSERY los dos en Salinas de los lugares que yo e visitado personalmente tendrías que llamarles. A la segura CAPULIN NURSERY en Watsonville ellos acaban de ordenar 1,000 arbolitos injertados que transplantaron a contenedores de 5 gallones y o SAN LORENZO GARDEN CENTER en Santa Cruz donde yo trabajo donde sobro uno o dos de la temporada pasada y estamos por recibir más como en 4-5 semanas. Posiblemente otros lugares en Carmel y Monterey pero para yo todavía no e ido mañana les habló y te digo.✌️🥑

    Hello 831AVO, moved to north Monterey county but also frequent Santa Cruz county, what local nurseries or garden supply stores do you recommend?

    • @831AVO
      @831AVO  9 месяцев назад +1

      In Salinas TOPE'S Garden Center & Bokay Nursery. In Watsonville I recommend Capulin Nursery for the $30 avocado trees in a 5 or $85 for 15 if theres still some left. In Santa Cruz where I work San Lorenzo Garden Center. What are you looking for? Theres others these are just some worthy mentions where I've seen a wide selection of avocado or pluots & apriums which are the type of trees I'm planting the most these days. Welcome and thanks for stopping by and supporting I appreciate it.✌️🥑

      Thanks 831AVO, been to some of these places and I’ll check out the others.
      Gophers: Like you I’ve gopher caged all my bare root fruit trees but I’ve heard gophers won’t touch avocado roots. What’s your experience? Have you actually seen gophers attack avocado roots?

    • @831AVO
      @831AVO  9 месяцев назад

      @@jma80804 I've seen activity around my trees I've planted in cages and I've gotten feedback and input from customers at the nursery that they've had gophers devestate 3yr old in ground trees that were ready to set fruit it was a major setback. Anytime 🫡🥑

      I want whatever will grow the best, and produce the most, with the best flavor . I don’t have much space in my yard anymore, so was thinking about trying to pull one off in a pot. I think you gave me your number but I don’t remember what I saved it as.

      @@miertastrain little space best tasting I would go with the GEM avocado tree. I planted one in a ¾ oak wine at San Lorenzo Garden Center and documenting the journey. We're expecting some GEM trees around May. Call San Lorenzo Garden Center on Saturday after 1pm I'll be there to take your info. I can put you down for a request with no obligation to purchase it if you decide against it at a later time. Hope to hear from you so we can talk more no pressure. ✌️🥑

      @@831AVO I saw some at Home Depot GEM what do you think about those? If not I will call Saturday.!

      @831AVO  9 месяцев назад

      @@miertastrain yeah if you can find it go for it. I would recommend you up-pot it using compost free potting soil I use Pridelands found at local hydroponic shops add some sand or decomposed granite. Also paint your tree it helps with avoiding sunburn in summer and doubles as thin blanket in winter.
