Lyrics:
I'm not the devil you think that I am
It ain't no excuse, but I'm just a man
I slipped and I fell, it got out of hand
But I'm not the devil you think that I am
It wasn't no gun they held to my head
I got caught up believing in lies that were said
And in a moment of weakness
I stumbled, and I made my bed
I'm not the devil you think that I am
It ain't no excuse, but I'm just a man
I slipped and I fell, it got out of hand
But I'm not the devil you think that I am
There's 10, 000 reasons for you not to stay
And no one would blame you
If you want it that way
It might take some time
But I'll show you that I'm worth the wait
I'm not the devil you think that I am
It ain't no excuse, but I'm just a man
I slipped and I fell, it got out of hand
But I'm not the devil you think that I am
And I'll spend forever, do all that I can
To prove I'm not the devil you think that I am
And I'm not the devil

This song reminds me so much of my father. He toured twice in Iraq, received a Purple Heart and was honorably discharged after an injury from an ambush. Although he came back alive, he did not come back the same and struggles with PTSD from what he had to see and do. He always tells me that he lives with so much heaviness on his soul. Even though he thinks he's some devil, I think he's the best dad any one could ask for.
God Bless both of you. I'm young but my dad was old. He actually was in Vietnam. He had a temper and would scare easy when approaching him at night. He always told us after he was sorry and part of it was due to Undiagnosed PTSD. Back then no one wanted that label. I remember one time he wrapped my older brother up in a choke hold out of the dead of sleep. It was impressive but frightening lol I'm 31. He passed away 2 years ago. Keep loving your Dad forever and beyond. RIP D.B. I miss yuh.
Shit fucking sucks . He'll be that way for the rest of his days. Hug hi m and let him know every day what you said here. Tell him I said drink fucking water , pull security and move the fuck out. He'll know what that means 👍
God Bless you and your Dad. War is Horrible and like the other comments, just tell him you Love him and God Loves him and maybe he can find some Peace.
Alyssa Canales your dad is a great man and a very brave one to fight for our freedom my cousin was over there did 2 tours and now suffers from the same
Your Father in heaven couldn't be more pleased with your empathy for your dad.
So is His yshw.
Bless you little one.
I found this song not long after my family moved out. I was about 4 months into drying out. Played this song a lot while working the steps. Needed something to remind myself that I wasn't all bad and that getting sober was worth it.
I am at 46 days today ❤️ I listen to this song many times a day
That's awesome! Keep it up! They say one day at a time, but take it one second at a time if you have to.
I'm in it now bro. This song helps for sure. 20 days dry.
@adamsnider6701 keep it! I've put together a little over 6 years now, one day at a time with a lot of help from the Man Upstairs and a room full of strangers who welcomed me when I told them I needed help.
Keep pushing your ever find yourself in darkness remember what is necessary.
When I listen to Cody Jinks, so do the neighbors! 🖤👀🖤
All the Time 🖤🤠
Only way to do it!
Same
Yall ever be original and come up with your own stuff? That comment is almost on every music page on youtube.
I wish I was your neighbor lol
I don’t know how many nights I’d get drunk and run the battery dead in my truck to this song. I’m sober now my poor wife. I hope she now knows I regret every once of hell I put her through
You’ll be okay buddy👍🏻
If she couldn't handle your worst she doesn't deserve your best! Good luck and God bless Brother
@@nicktastic8183 Does that go the other way around too, or just one way?
Dear Lady, if he couldn't handle your worst he doesn't deserve your best!
@@stephtimms1776let the men have this one, women divorce men way more often then the other way around..
@@JordanHooton It's not the one that divorces that is always at fault... it's the one who cheats or otherwise quits sincerely trying to keep promises. TBH it's usually both who do so. The marriages where both keep repenting and forgiving, succeed.
Aaron Lewis, Chris Stapleton, Cody Jinks and Jamey Johnson are keeping country music alive!
Zach Russell, yes I agree, but you have to check out some of frank fosters music, its solid country also, promise u won't be disappointed
Michael Cook i like frank foster. I just dont think hes on the same level vocally as the other guys
sturgill simpson
Zach Russell amen to that!
Sturgill Simpson could be thrown into that lot too, he's pretty good. Sounds a lot like Waylon.
My fiancé got me out of a dark time in my life and she plays this song for us all the time. The best thing to ever happen in my life she and my stepdaughter are my everything ♥️

That sounds like a beautiful harmonious place to call home. God bless her and the blessings you’ve received.

❤
I have a hard time getting thru the entire album because I keep hitting the repeat button on each song. One of the best of 2016 in my opinion.
Well said. Mainstream is out of touch
amen on that
brian chaput Very well said. Just discovered his music last week, artists like this are few and far between. So far I haven't heard one disappointing song or track, everything has sounded amazing!
Dragon 67 I will go check him out,I appreciate the heads up! This is the kind of country the industry sorely needs. I think Chris Stapleton has started to turn a lot of the more pop country fans onto what country should sound like and I expect many amazing artists to emerge, so I see it as a great thing
I ended up buying all of his releases after listening to this album for a week. He just released his cover of Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" and I think it is fantastic. He has 2 out of print albums "Cast No Stones" and "Collector's Item", if you're on Facebook there is a great Cody Jinks group called Blacksheep which has them available in digital format, with Cody's blessing; many members are incredibly generous and record copies to CD and mail them at no charge, only request is pay-it-forward by making copies for other members. One of the songs on the out-of-print CDs is "Walk Alone", incredible lyrics - especially the stories he weaves about the homeless Vietnam vet and single mother - first time I heard it I got tears in my eyes and replayed it a few more times immediately.
Going through a divorce and haven’t seen my kids in over 6 months. This song hits so close to home. TMLD.
Fuckin feel this like a mother fucker
So sorry for what your going through. There's always a light up ahead. Hold on be strong. This to will pass.
Been there before, head up brother it gets better
Don't look up Highway 20 Ride then

Really?
You're gonna do that to him?
I've been in his shoes more than once. We all break, but life doesn't stop there. It's all about how you put your boots on, and take that step towards greatness, regardless of our struggles.
I really really like your comment
Soild \m/...This comment made my day ..im share it 🤘
Some times seems impossible to achieve specially when is our own fault.
This song reminds me I have a good soul despite my faults life is hard choose good choose God's will trust me doing wrong only leads to a life of destruction sometimes people with the toughest pasts turn out to be the realest people Zachary Moser
Remembering sitting up, middle of ur bed, listening to Manson,
My heart heavy like our love, fighting against turning us into ashes, I could see it coming, maybe I should’ve left but I stayed to witness our destruction, thinking why we keep fighting if we love each other hard, but I could see it coming like your flight to the edge of the world, leaving me once again with my heart split open, broken from combat, broken from disappointments, broken from my hard life, but broken I still stand like my brothers in arms, we are America’s broken warriors. Love us as we are cause we’re not the devil. 💔💔💔
not only do I love Cody but I love all the Cody fans. I dont know many artists where I can just scroll through and see nothing but positive comments and people sharing stories then others lifting them up. wow! cody your amazing brother ❤
Kayla Morris. Very true. I know he has a great mom. Didn’t meet his Dad that I remember. I do remember his lil sister went to school with our boys. Cody’s a little older. Good people.
1ooo dislikes must be liberals lol.
Kayla Morris ghb
Agreed 100
I like his music...and i my music playlist suggest that i ain't a big country music fan. I was getting a tattoo while his music was playing, and i respect his art.
I buried my cousin today. He had struggled with addiction for a long time. His son chose this song to play at the funeral. It was the first time I had heard it and it truly was a fitting song. I was doing good with the be strong for his wife and kids and my aunt but that put a lump in my throat
Goin through a divorce after 14 yrs together...its like this song is telling my story.
I know this is a 5 year old comment, but if you see this, tell me how it worked out.
Because I'm living this right now.
Staring at an empty bottle of bourbon.
The woman I loved more than life itself has told me I've broken the bonds.
I've broken our family.
But I was taught to never give up.
To never quit.
To always try harder.
@@cmcolfax1 hey it’s been a month bud. How you doing?
@@readingwithrobson3911 Still fighting the good fight.
But it's a loosing battle when she just doesn't want to care
My wife and I are going through a very difficult time due to some of my...issues. We've been together for nearly 20 years; since I was 20 so half of our lives we've been together. This last week was one of our rockiest times we've ever had and we honestly were not sure we would make it as a couple. I surprised her with tickets to your 6/10/23 show in Detroit and we had the best time we've had together in years. I can't say where things are going to go with us going forward but that show, that day, made us remind each other that we do love each other and we want to fight to keep us going. This song in particular hits hard but I'm attributing our reconciliation to Cody and this concert. I will never forget this concert and this day so thank you Cody for *hopefully* saving my marriage.
The way I interpret this song is through my own experience. I was dating this girl and we we're happy. I slipped and fell and I believed lies and I screwed up our relationship. Like the song says "I slipped and i fell i made my bed". I told her all these reason to please stay( there's 10,000 reasons for you not to stay) but she didn't want to do it. I told her im not this bad guy you think I am, im not the devil you think I am. Im human and I messed up. I was depressed when it happened because everything I did was my fault and I told her I get it if you leave, but im not the devil you think I am. Cody if you see this id like to thank you for this song. It has helped me through that experience. If anyone is or was in a relationship with someone who screwed up just know we're human we aren't perfect. Thank you cody.
Thank you Lord for Cody Jinks. He gives me hope for the future of country music.
almost lost my world today. I never knew how much I let my wife down. but this song is kinda my tribute to her.. just hurtin never thought the day would come that no matter how much I love her or how hard I try to make thing work; I'm the one who gave up and let her down.. im tired of feeling like the failure and non cooperative one.
man I read that loud and clear
prayers for you bro
+Alex Watkins today 7/31/16 my wife asked for the divorce she has been wanting . I love her but I said I'd do whatever it to to keep her happy. this time at least I can be a man of my word.
+Leland Bates fight for your wife, I have been down that same road. if you truly love her do t let her go. You have to change the reason she wants to leave you. Go to the ends of the world to prove to her you have changed.Pray for her, pray for yourself. marriage is not something you give up on because it got hard. Marriage is a daily battle, the devil wants to tear it apart because it was a covenant between you, your wife, and God. punch the devil in the mouth and get your wife back. If she can see a true change, and change back into the man she first married she won't go anywhere. but you can't just fix it until things get better you have to change yourself. when I went thru this same problem, I changed myself because I saw my faults and realized I was the problem. i changed myself for me because I didn't want to be that guy. and in changing myself for me, I also changed myself for her. God has done way harder miracles than fixing your marriage. it's going to be hard, but not near as hard as seeing her with another man! So man up and get your wife back.
+Alex Watkins she forgave me for my faults but she doesn't want me because she feels that she will always remember and the thought would be in the back of her head. she has a hard time with trust anyways lol I love her but I lost her a long time ago I just never knew it. I wanted to keep trying but she doesn't so I'm gonna try to be her friend at least and hopefully she will see the changes I'm working on. I never cheated or beat her to be honest I felt stupid compared to her and couldn't talk to her amongst other things. she may not want to try but my plan is to show her the changed man I'm working to be.
I'm playing this at my funeral
This jam is a monster. The best country I've heard in some time.
It's hard to come by good country music now days. I grew up listening to country and it's changed over the years as does everything. But some things should always stay true to their roots and I am grateful for this. Thanks for the pure country
Can't get enough of these guys!! Love Cody's voice & I hope they start blowing up country stations everywhere!

It is not about getting close. It is just about playing from the heart. You have accomplished this.
Eric Church, Aaron Lewis, Cody Jinks, Jamey Johnson, Sturgill Simpson, and Chris Stapleton are the best Country's got today! Such rare talents that I wish people listen to.
Finally! An artist that knows country music!! I stopped listening to country along time ago, as it took a turn I didn't care for.
But you, Cody Jinks are awesome!.. You got me listening to yours! I am old school country. Waylon, Johnny, George and the list goes on and on.. And my friend you are bringing the legends back, through your music!!

Songs that hit the nail on the head at the right moment of your life are always the best. I messed up, made my bed that I lay in alone now but I'm not the devil she thinks I am.
Hang in there brother. No words can make you feel better. Time is the only antidote. A prayer or 2 doesn't hurt anything either. I've been there man. It sucks but it does get better.
Michigan needs you!
this is one of the best songs ive ever heard great job
Dear Cody, we are all Human and make mistakes! Even our Savior was a Man, for a time! Beautiful! 💕
Cody Jinks, I just want to thank you. thank you for being yourself. thank you for bringing country to country music. thank you for being inspiration for artists like myself to keep pushing on. simply, thank you. all the way from Georgia
And thank you for stopping by all the way from GA.
Cody Jinks been a fan for quite a while... please come close to the Savannah area soon
I have also been going through alot, I mean to me it feels like God doesn't even love me anymore not only bc im a homosexual but bc I have done alot of bad things and have begged for forgiveness and it seems to fail everytime. In late April I lost my baby brother by injury and I have lost all but two of my grandparents and great grandparents. It never fails. But this song completely explains me bc I'm not a bad person than everyone puts me out to be. I just feel like I ain't loved anymore but I will hold onto faith and hope to see another tomorrow and have enough love for myself to replace everyone! Thanks Cody!!
Well brother IDC if your a homosexual you just play it as straight as you can and do the right thing it ain't easy itl hurt sometimes but do nice things and feel better I was a violent man id fight any man dog cat ghost gods you name it but take that advice and walk a line keep that serphant the devil were he belongs out of your mind push him away like he's damn Freddy krugger but beware the evils my friend I hope you don't get affended by this stay strong just trying to help keep your inner monalog positive

New chapter in life ...starting over after a long journey of hurt...met a good man with a true heart. To afraid to accept that good men truly exist so I pushed him away using his past against him. Hurt my heart to do that to him. Cried for days. Then he sent me this song. I stopped pushing him away and embraced the love he had for me. He's rocks my soul!!
Played this song for her and she laughed greatest gift she ever gave me
This is a song for every man that had made a mistake and later regretted it
This is one of the best songs l've heard in many years.
It's so strange I would come across this when I did. If I didn't know any better, I'd swear it was written about me. My name is 'Cody,' and, I have the 'Devil' tattooed on my back. I've been the scapegoat all my life. In a heavy moment not but a few minutes ago, I just found this track. Mr. Jinks, you have no idea how close this song is to describe me. I think I about stepped outside myself. I could share a few things about my life that is so much in sync with this song of yours. Your first name, the title of the song, the lyrical equation...and just how much I've been jinxed in life just trying to prove that I'm not all that I have been through as a scapegoat. From me, to you, thank you, Mr. Jinks. I only hope you understand the depth of my words here. Humble gratitude to you, brother. I don't have the words other than that.
I was a pretty bad dude at one time but God cleaned me up well
Amen brother
Cody is what you call true talent. His voice and lyrics speak for themselves. He doesn't need fancy clothes or a flashy stage. I got to see his talent in person and I'm hooked! Keep doing your thing Cody and always stay humble. We ♡ You!!

It blows my mind that Cody Jinks isn't played on radio. Here in SWMO one of our country stations plays red dirt on Friday night and that's about the only time I ever hear him on the radio. He has such a good sound and awesome lyrics!

I just recently learned of your music. Man, I am in LOVE!!! I have already told so many people about you. I'm in Hickory, NC. Waiting for you!! 😍
I was in the process of making a music playlist. Deathmetal, thrash, hardcore, speed metal. With some old county mixed in.... you know... like cash, hank Sr., hank jr., David Allen, brooks. Then I found this guy. Love it. I may be a metal thrasher, but this dude kicks ass. Goes great in-between some cannible corpse and pantera. I also play guitar. Think I might learn a couple of his songs.
Don’t ever ever ever in your life say Garth brooks name in that sentence again
don't think I've ever hit repeat this many times.

Took my youngest to her first real country music concert to see Cody and Whitey Morgan at Billy Bob's last Saturday. They both have a new young fan. What can I say? My baby girl knows great music when she hears it. Hell of a show, guys. Thanks for helping me make lasting memories with my daughter.

yes?
Seen him open for Jamey Johnson June 17 in my home town Durant ok.... lets just say crowd was chanting for Cody even when Jamey was on stage. Jamey Johnson is the man and he played with a huge band, multiple drummers horn section etc, but Cody is such the real deal that I don't think its wise to have him as your opener. Jamey did call Cody on stage and the whole place was chanting Cody Cody Cody! it gave you chill bumps was flippin awesome! You go Denton/Ft worth boy! I guarantee ill see more shows.
