I don't understand why peoples are enthusiastic about comparing Messi with any other players. He is an absolute outlier in the contemporary world with no counterparts in proximity. The only adverse effect is that you might lose the lust of watching other games.
I've never understood the comparisons either. The man gets past 3 to 5 defenders every night and if he doesn't score, he'll assist, or make key passes.

That anyone even suggested there was a comparison to be made (let alone a debate) between Messi and any other player in this generation is quite frankly absurd. It just shows how superficial their understanding of the game of football is. No one will ever deny that one of the greatest goal scorers in the history of the game also played during this generation, but being a phenomenal goal scorer is not at all the same thing as being a phenomenal total footballer. It's not a point of disrespect but a simple matter of fact that Messi is in a league of his own in every way. He is the greatest all-around footballer of this generation, and there is no one else who is even close. He is perhaps the greatest to ever play the sport.
