    Buying your own wetsuit enters you into a new world of different neoprenes, internal linings, “well this one has wrist zippers” and that one’s purple is that good? Wetsuit technology has come a very long way since they first appeared and in case you haven’t already noticed; not all wetsuits are the same. Scuba diving wetsuits, for example, are different from surfing wetsuits. Surfing wetsuits are stretchy so they can move around and do their surfing thing but they compress so if you’re scuba diving go for a scuba diving wetsuit, they’re made for scuba diving.
    Scuba suits are made to keep you warm under pressure, so they resist compression compared to other wetsuits. A wetsuit is useless at keeping you warm if the insulation is all crushed at depth, that’s where it’s coldest. Wetsuit manufacturers release a range of suits that vary wildly in price but why? That’s what we’re going to be covering in today’s video,
    Let’s take a look at What To Look For When Buying A Wetsuit

    To begin thank you for your time and sharing your knowledge. If I was to respectfully make a request; for some of the info said, it would make it easier if you had a quick picture to go along. It would make it easier to understand what the discussion is about. For ones more thank you for these videos. Wishing you all the best

    I'm a surface sport person normally, and have a combination of wetsuits and drysuits for that reason, all nice and free moving. When I did my OW course it was in full on drysuits for a Scottish winter salt water dive, with 5mm hood and gloves. Never felt more claustrophobic in my life, especially with a tight rental neck seal. Personally I'd rather feel a bit more chilly and have some freedom of movement than be warm as toast, but it seems to fly in the face of every bit of advice, but if I have to make that choice, I'll just not dive.

    Zippers? Front vs. Back? Zipper cuffs? Zipperless suits? I'd like to buy the 3mm Scubapro zipperless but can't find much info on it. Seems zipperless is the way to go if one can become accustomed to getting it on and off.

    Like my Mares Flexatherm semidry..... if money was no object? Custom fit made to measure semi-dry... absolutely no doubt. It'd be 7/5 dual-thickness, glideskin roll-seats on neck, wrist and ankles, dry zip and plush lined core *AND* on the thighs, godammit. Oh, and It'd have a whaleshark pattern finish. Why? Because being pretty matters as much as being warm, that's why! ^_^

    Some manufacturers (e.g. Bare) claim to have developed a neoprene that has additional "radiant" properties that allow the suit to conserve more body heat than you'd expect in a suit of the same thickness. These are sold at a premium.
    A question for your podcast: are they worth the extra money (everything else being equal)? Thank you and I love your podcast!

    Hello please i have a question this suit can protect me from drowning cause i can not swim
    and 3 mm is good or not ?

    • @simplyscuba
      @simplyscuba  2 года назад

      Hi Ahmed, while neoprene wetsuits are buoyant, they shouldn't be used as a buoyancy aid alone.
      A wetsuit will help you float on the surface but, a proper buoyancy aid like a life jacket will help you float in the correct position in the water.
